Definitely not the Doctor Who I enjoyed for so many years. I've stopped watching and probably won't be returning. I'll miss it.

Absolutely not what Dr Who should be. Very disappointed with both Whittaker and Chibnall. They couldn't have done a worse job.

    Utterly heartbreaking.
Where was the Drama, the hook, the Doctor?
Jodie did a reasonable job at the beginning but really wasn't given a chance to become the doctor as the show has been ruined by a bunch of self righteous short stories that don't come together to deliver anything, making the torture of watching the series not even worth it in the end.

I was hoping the female Doctor Who would bring the same level of fun and excitement. But as of right now, she is not even as strong as past companions as a character. Very disappointed, waited so eagerly for more new doctor who episodes.

Doctor who series has never been perfect, but I've always enjoyed each and every episode. The 11:th season has made the ultimate crime in entertainment, it has become boring. The storylines are predictable and childish, the companions, for the most part, feel pointless and the Doctor herself is uninteresting. The show also has a pandering tone throughout each episode, where you are constantly reminded how racism is bad and white men are evil. And of course racism is bad and everyone should be treated with respect, but I don't need a sci-fi show to tell me these obvious things. The show used to have a certain charm, but that charm has been murdered and we're left with an empty husk of a once great show.

Doctor Who has had it's fair share of bad episodes in the past, but the characters usually got me through those, but in this season the only character I kind of liked was Grace and then they go and kill her off in the first episode, so thanks I guess. Overall the show is boring and not worth a watch, even if you are a die-hard fan of Doctor Who and/or sci-fi.

The Doctor is smart, cunning, kind, almost overconfident, an entertainer, and at times, almost omniscient in his ability to solve problems. and when all else fails, he drops his name and the problem flees. The 13th Doctor has the smarts, the kindness, is somewhat cunning, but lacks the rest in spades. She doubts herself constantly, stopping to give a pep talk instead of charging ahead while giving the companions a sense of wonder and trust that everything is going to be okay without being told. It sounded more like she was convincing herself than them. As far as entertaining, her personality is lacking so much, it seems more like they took a random person from a crowd and said, "Want to be The Doctor?" The Doctor has always had a force of personality that makes everyone in the room listen to him or at least pay attention to what wild story he is making up to stall for time, but 13 is the most static Doctor so far.
Look back at all the previous female leads, Rose, Martha, Donna, Clair, freaking River Song! And then compare them to this Doctor now. If they are the bar, then Jodie has yet to even come close to touching it.
We have not seen any good enemies that can push 13 to her limits yet, but I doubt that even then, with this team, that it would turn out great. I am still going to watch and hope that I am wrong, but the signs are not promising.

When I heard the Doctor would be female my worry was the new season would be a PC nightmare. But as the Doctor being a woman was well within canon I shelved those concerns and looked forward to my favorite show coming back.

Then I am watching episode 1 and they cut to the producer saying the focus of the new season is being inclusive. Well it shows, because little went into the script.

So far the season has had decent acting, horrible scripts, political bias, and on top of it all they ruined the iconic theme song.

The acting is decent, but Jodie seems to just be an imitation of previous Doctors and it doesn't feel as though she has made the character her own. The show is barely worth watching for a long time fan, after season 4 I would delete it from my DVR if I was not such a big fan.

The new Tardis is bland. A crystal? Seriously? It's supposed to be an engine chugging/screeching through time and space.

Spoiler alert... Here's my personal mini review of each episode so far...

Ep.1 - Tooth faced Mr. Freeze alien uses super snake computer thingie to hunt down a spineless schmuck.
Ep.2 - Companions are impervious to the vacuum of space, trek across world to find the Tardis all the while avoiding super ghost death race that reminds me of WonTon soup.
Ep.3 - White supremacist from thousands of years in the future travels back in time to stop Rosa Parks. Yep. Because white supremacy still exists in the future in a SJW writer's mind.
Ep. 4 - Fonald Rump dumps toxic waste creating massive super spiders. Loud rap music saves the day. Guns are evil, Trump is evil, blah, blah, blah.
Ep. 5 - Nibbler from Futurama terrorizes hospital spaceship. A pregnant dude.
Ep. 6 - Evil assassin aliens who aren't evil anymore come to India. Muslims are not the bad guy. Watching my fingernails grow was more entertaining than this episode.
Ep. 7 - Angry white male tries to destroy space Amazon with explosive bubble wrap. Doctor is too stupid to realize that she is being tracked while wearing an ankle bracelet.
Ep. 8 - Revisiting witch trials. Evil mud aliens escape from tree prison. A high tech tree prison that was destroyed with a few whacks from an axe. Because genius super aliens never could have anticipated that happening in a time when wood was one of the primary sources of fuel. (Good Lord the writing is complete crap.)
Ep. 9 - Cabin in Norway. Blind girl. Dr is foiled by someone cutting her string. Talking frog. Longest most boring episode of Dr. Who...ever?
Ep. 10 - Probably something about global warming, guns, or evil corporations. Old white guy companion dies.

If I had to describe the new show's title sequence, I'd say swimming through disco vomit. Or diarrhea. What a fitting open for this season!

Chris Chibnall should be fired. Get the SJW out of Sci-Fi. This season is terrible.

I have read a lot of reviews about the new Doctor Who and I find that most miss out what is really missing in the new season.

The relationship the Doctor has with his/her companions.

That's the real core of the show. Forget about gender politics and even the awful stories they have given us so far.

The real problem with it is that the new Doctor has no real connection and no chemistry with her new companions yet. The Doctor and companions has always been the real core of the show. Whether it was a romantic relationship (Rose, River), a friends relationship (Billie), a funny sidekick (Jack, Nardole), or whatever, that relationship was the core of the show. And that is not just New Who, that is Old Who as well. The chemistry and connection has always been a staple of the show.

And if the chemistry was there between the characters, the awful stories would not be such an issue (they would be an issue but a lesser issue).

As regards this chemisty or lack thereof, usually in a first episode we got to see that relationship start and start to develop properly.

There is a reason the Doctor always invites them to share the universe with him/her. He/She likes them.

In this current season, of which we are 3 episodes in already, there has been no time for the new Doctor to bond at all with the new companions. Everything has been plot driven (although somehow still boring) and there has been no connection or chemistry between them.

There has been some (derivative cliched) connection between the companions, but the Doctor seems to have taken a backseat. It is called Doctor Who after all and we tune in for the Doctor and the Doctor's unique personality.

This problem of a lack of chemistry is the real problem with the show.

And Jodie is fine as the Doctor, or at least she would be (and could be great, who knows) if she had better material to work with, better dialog and had a better rapport with her co-stars.

Edit: Now, after seeing episode 4, I really don't know what to say anymore! What used to be a cleverly written, wonderfully complex plotted series has become a breeding ground for every political and virtue signalling cliche available. We do not need a Trump-alike in a Doctor Who. Who works best when it is metaphorical and allegorical, not on the nose, slap in the face obvious like this.

    It is now beyond ridiculous!

All the characters seem flat, the acting is REALLY superficial, and it's as if I'm being beaten about the head and shoulders with some kind of B movie scifi/horror rather than a clever Doctor Who episode.
The saving grace of Doctor Who has always been that even if you didn't enjoy a particular episode or one of the companions, you could enjoy the Doctor, the TARDIS, something. There was NOTHING in this episode to enjoy.
Ultimately I quit watching it about halfway through the episode because it was so horrible and just returned later so I could watch episode 2 in hopes of it being better. If episode 2 isn't the best episode I've ever seen I don't see myself watching the show again until the Doctor switches up.

What bothered me is how dull the show has become and how utterly bad the writing is. Did these people ever watch a Doctor Who episode? Other reviewers have said it better, but truly Jodie's Doctor is just dull and not the Doctor, and previous season companions had more "Doctorish" aspects to them. She doesn't command the screen. She's just there, reading poorly written lines. No energy at all. Sadly she is getting free passes because she's the first woman Doctor. Well in the UK there were two million fewer viewers for episode two and it looks like another million didn't tune in for episode three. So we'll see where this experiment in using a bland Doctor to be our moral teacher ends up.

Unforgivably dull. Jodie was fine and will be a totally fine Doctor, as we all knew. But they'll need to pick this up and quickly. The dialogue was stodgy, the characters dry and dull, the storyline did not have the layers we've come to expect from the Doctor. The crime procedural feel doesn't work for the Doctor. It just doesn't. Jodie has all the spark and charm of a Smith Doctor and it just seems weird with the dark surroundings. People have talked about Capaldi's talents being wasted by Moffat's convoluted plots. Let's see how Chibnall squanders the grand potential of the first female Doctor.

Well, the first episode is out of a new science fiction show on the BBC. I watched it really hoping it would be a good program. I went over every detail of this 1 hour and 1-minute show. After reviewing the entire episode and trying to be as objective as possible I found the story was weak and the actual script failed to suspend disbelief and poorly written. To make matters worse, the lead female character has a terrible Yorkshire accent that made many words indecipherable or it was necessary to pause the program to try to figure out what was being said. (to be clear, I have understood Ozzy Osborne's Brummie at times better than this person). If she needs an accent, she should learn to enunciate! The acting on the part of the lead female was not believable at all and seemed overacted at times. This is really consistent with her other work in Broadchurch, Venus or Trust Me so not entirely unexpected. The poor script probably did not help either. The opening was slow but the pace picked up after about 41 minutes. The episode also required a lot of exposition but that was also expected. The violence was also on the higher end and would probably not be good for a younger viewer. The ending scene was not just unbelievable but plain silly. The production and writing crew are completely new and comprised of a majority of females. Now, this really should not matter in any other circumstance. But the obvious feminist overtones are clear and really are distracting from creating a quality science fiction program. Overall this episode was a big disappointment. Hopefully, one day the BBC will see they need to bring back Doctor Who and not this experiment in poor science fiction. Expand

Only positive I saw was some of the visuals in the first 10 minutes, but it seems highly apparent that they blew a lot of the budget out the gate.

What is worse is that this doctor is just a knock off of the Tenant/Smith doctor which is the absolute last thing Doctor who needed.

    EDIT: E02

The visuals of the intro sequence were phenomenal. However the music is off a literal beat. It is nice however to be done with Capaldi's Christmas intro with its jingle bells.

Episode 2 shows where the show is going. Completely illogical setups and predictable outcomes. For example you can see and connect the episodes "solution" a full 25 minuets before it happens showing how predictable this incarnation is.

Whitakers depiction is increasingly becoming more ridiculous and scatterbrained. She is practically a companion herself leaving this to be Doctorless Who.

In the end like most of the visuals, the new Tardis is outstanding, if an odd, eclectic feel. The shame is that long term this doctor is not up to all these slick visuals with the character being written so poorly as an imitation of far better doctors.

    Edit E03

And with that this incarnation of the doctor and almost certainly Chibnalls tenure becomes unwatchable. Much as many people predicted it becomes a breeding ground for racism, sexism and otherwise normal SJW bigotry. Bending over backwards to show the audience just how "woke" it is with its civil rights narrative. Furthermore it tries to force white guilt upon the one white companion who was already made out to be a doddering old white fool for everyone to scapegoat. It is an absolute shame that a show as venerated as Doctor Who can be dragged through the SJW muck and mire.

I have no problem with the doctor being made a woman. It could have been done so well. Had they simply had the doctor simply be a woman it might have been alright, but with this episode it removes the last shadow of doubt that this is not merely a case where actual equality is at play, but an agenda is at work that seeks to social engineer a world of equality built through inequity, and bigotry. If it cant be contained within 3 episodes, It tells you that it will undoubtedly influence and taint all the episodes of at the very least the remainder of this season.

Final Edit: This incarnation shows why the doctor is normally only allowed so many regenerations.

Sadly, "lackluster" would be overstating how predictable and formulaic this episode was. Apart from a new "Tardis Team" and the setting, this first episode was almost a rehash/mashup of two beloved episodes "The Christmas Invasion" and "The Planet of the Dead" where an evil baddie randomly kills innocents, and the Doctor needs to work with a bunch of new people to figure out who she is, save the day. On top of that the episode lacked the confidence in the Doctor, so they even felt the need to rehash what the Doctor believes in, as if long time fans would somehow have forgotten, and new fans wouldn't do the homework to figure it out. I truly hope subsequent episodes can put it together, or this new experiment in Doctor Who will be an abysmal failure. Expand

To be honest, I was extremely excited to see a woman as The Doctor and a little bit disappointed that they didn't explore that transformation enough. We will never get back the moment when the Doctor was first a woman, and it was all wasted. The truth is, the Doctor spent a long time coping with the fact that he had become old and grey-haired in season 8. He had a whole identity crisis! And when he becomes a woman it's only a passing thought? I don't like this blindness towards gender. I wanted a bigger acknowledgement of it. What does it mean? How does the Doctor cope with this? How is his identity affected? He's been male for thousands of years! I wanted to see more development and acknowledgment of this transformation. At least mention what will become of his alias John Smith... Part of the problem was that the Doctor wasn't given enough screen time and development.
Also, I didn't find this Doctor very inspiring. Her speeches were not as poignant as Capaldi's or Matt Smith's: her character was written more like a bubbly superhero rather than The Doctor. I wanted to see her age, her past, the extent of her emotions. She just seemed so goofy without any gravitas.
Also, I don't feel like the Doctor is as attached to her companions as she was with Amy or Clara or Donna. It seems like they're all pals but not best friends. I know there's more companions so its harder to have a one-on-one relationship, but I don't see the friendship as much. They are not asking enough questions about each other. It seems like the companions don't really ask The Doctor that many questions about her past or anything (Idk, though I didn't rewatch any episodes and I didn't watch the finale). If the episodes had had a connecting arch, maybe there would be more attachment between characters. I didn't like how each episode stood alone. They were all so skippable and I wouldn't rewatch any like I rewatch Russell T. Davis and Moffat.
I really disliked the Spiders episode. It was so obvious what it was about, but there was no nuance or depth to the statement. Not like Zygon Inversion with Capaldi's emotional speech. Everything seemed really idealistic without depth and therefore it wasn't inspirational.
Finally, I really hated the Tardis design. It was not homy or fun. It looked heavy and not like the Tardis we love. In short, very few things about this new season feel like Doctor Who... :( They feel like any other time traveling show.

Season 11 is very poorly written and possesses no meta-narrative to hold the season together. The characters are wooden and unmemorable as are the vast majority of the episodes. It is just fine for the Doctor to be female, but the way she is written and portrayed does not feel like the beloved Doctor of every other season that precedes this one. Very disappointing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Update: "Resolution" was so much more Doctor Who than anything else in season 11. It had some new music as well and some connection to her history. I'm really hopeful now.

Story: This season seems to have 2 kind of episodes: Political/historical ones with the greatest force in the galaxy (The Doctor) acting as a bystander, doing nothing with some added aliens also changing nothing. The other kind is bad-bad alien shows up, does something bad to some random people, nothing happens, baddy or some bystander tells doctor who the baddy is, in the last 3 minutes doctor waves screwdriver (even with bad alien standing right next to her at worst case they tell her how bad they are, but mostly they just growl, but never try to stop her), baddy goes away, credits roll. This is my worst problem with this season. I was really-really looking forward to it. 1st episode was the second kind, but it was a new Doctor with here awesome musical theme (or rather one melody), and Jodie Whittaker isn't bad at all, I actually quite liked her at first and I still believe she could be a great doctor, but the writing is just insanely repetitive, just like the whole show. Granted, Doctor Who always had the second kind of stories, but that's not all it had.

Music: As it turns out I really have to love 13's theme music, because that one melody is all we get this season, the rest of the 'music' is just some arpeggiated notes held for minutes, wouldn't really even call it music. It feels like writing this one melody took up all the time. Of course this probably isn't the case, but I really wish there was some music in there. Funny thing, at first I was quite happy with the title theme as it payed homage to the original.

The Doctor: This guy/gal is like 2000 years old now, one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy, right? He/she has established iconic enemies that were well designed to begin with and very well updated in the new series to fit modern times even without changing much of their original design. He has huge history behind him with many-many stories that left their mark on his character, right? Well, you get none of these. The new Doctor feels disconnected from everything that came before her. The only thing I felt was present was her overcompensating the relative heartlessness that was felt in the early days of 12 (and following his advice, always be kind), but nothing else. She isn't even connected to her own previous episodes, and she feels like a bystander. At first I though she would be the mechanic, constantly fixing things, the 1st episode had that feeling, but even that is gone in no time. She has no definition, she feels like a mimic, trying to sound like the doctor, but even those sentences feel forced and out of place. She keeps threatening others (you will have me to answer to), but unlike ever before, it feels empty, because she herself feels empty. When she fell out of the TARDIS after her regeneration, I imagined elaborate plotlines, with cybermen or daleks fooling her TARDIS to not recognize her as the Doctor and how they would eventually find each other and fall in love again or something like this, but no, nothing, not even an explanation. The emotional charge that made me fall in love with the Doctor is nowhere to be seen.

TARDIS: Man, I couldn't wait to see it all girly, colorful walls and everything, but nooooo, dark, stupid looking crystals, with something that looks like a phallic symbol... Such a missed opportunity and completely out of line with her character (however forced that feels).

Companion(s): We have team TARDIS now. It doesn't help, they feel too many, the writers struggle to give them meaningful things to do, so they are quite empty. Also, one of the driving forces of the Doctor, especially in the later seasons was his relationship, his emotional connection to his companions. With this group that's also non-existent, 'Hello, I'm the Doctor, this is team TARDIS, we travel next to each other, and I'm kind so I don't want them to die, just as I don't want anyone else to die in the whole wide world ever. But I let them in my TARDIS, because that's kind of my thing, I don't travel alone, but to be honest, I don't really need them.'

I was so looking forward to this, to prepare I watched all 10 seasons of the new run again and her falling out of the exploding TARDIS promised me so many things, but it wasn't delivered :( I've seen Chibnall complain about Doctor Who having too complicated, hard to follow plots in the 80s. Well, he certainly showed how to do plots that are easy to follow, but that's not a good thing. It's an insult to the viewers' intelligence after the wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey of the previous seasons. It's repetitive and quite frankly, boring. I will keep watching, no matter what, because it's Doctor Who and it will remain my favorite show, and "Resolution" gave me new hope.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Doctor Who, which I've been watching for 4 decades, used to be my all-time favorite show. I've loved its fast pace, its adventure, its fantasy, whimsy and comedic elements. Up until 2018 this series was, for me, must-see TV. But sad to say, Season 11 has come dangerously close to killing the beloved franchise altogether. Now we have a woefully miscast Doctor---played by Jodie Whittaker, who doesn't seem to understand what her character is really all about! The problem isn't her gender change, it's her un-Doctor-like personality and behavior. Whittaker's Doctor is no longer the fun, quirky hero who saves lives. Rather, she has been transformed into a PC schoolteacher herding her "pupils" from one learning experience to the next. What transpires are dull and preachy storylines, poorly conceived and having no purpose whatsoever beyond the in-your-face social messaging. How something once so brilliant as Doctor Who can have devolved, in just 11 episodes, into utter banality is the real tragedy here. I'm rating Season 11 a 2 out of 10, and IMO that's being generous! One might be concerned that there might be very little compelling sci-fi themes from this inexperienced writing team - and you'd be right. This is Doctor Who done in a daytime soap fashion and as you'd expect, it's not pleasant viewing.

I watch Doctor Who for its escapism. I love its monsters, creativity, mythology and humour. All of which have been bled out of the show this year, in its pursuit of a new, broader audience. It is devoid of action, suspense, tension and stakes. Ultimately, it feels very derivative from past series.

I've always thought Doctor Who works best as an action adventure series. However, If you want to attempt a more methodical, character lead format, the writing has to be vastly superior to this - an order of magnitude better. The characters come of as weak and one dimensional. We can't enjoy the wonder of travelling the universe because they don't have any. We never get scared, because they don't. We never feel a sense of accomplishment, because they never have a mountain to climb. Character development has taken a backseat to endless dreary exposition and anti-climax.

How a new production team can be creatively bankrupt in their first year, is beyond me.

Cant rly tell if main character is just so poorly written or is the actor rly that talentless. Makes me angry i dont live in UK so i could refuse to pay BBC for television broadcasts.

I am a huge fan of doctor who, but this season really missed the mark. I am so sick of these ideologues trying to jam their politics down my throat. I watch Dr.Who to escape the bs that we deal with every day, not to have identity politics shoved down my throat. Give it a rest already.

to show us A good doctor. The first episode was a good start. The third made me think. The rest made me cringe. I own all of the new series on bluray but im going to skip getting this one for my collection

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was really hoping for something different in this season, with the much hyped new Doctor and companions. The first episode starts the series as it means to continue, that is with weak writing and weak plots. For some reason a race of galactic conquerors choose to visit Earth every seven years to send a potential Leader. Let that set it. Big evil, nasty monsters. That need permission to visit apparently. The blue blob in the woods was somehow moved by two blokes and a van, but we know the nearest road is significantly far away and is moved from A to B in a blink of an eye. If anyone needs a man and a Van, you know who to hire. But I digress. Yes the leader of the Big Bad comes to earth and steals children's teeth. The big evil is just a bad tooth fairy. The doctor is running about confused, as is normal for a regen episode, but it lacks the feel of Doctor Who, and slightly more Famous Five.

Unfortunately the rest of the series sticks to the same formula. A confused Doctor who needs consistent help in remembering things. The series suffers from a lot of 'telling' rather than 'showing'. The second episode we are told of the dangerous planet but don't really see much of it. We are told of the flesh eating water, but once they are all on the boat it's just any other day. The odd psychic bandages and the sniper bots (who obvious attended "The Imperial Stormtrooper Academy Of Shooting" as they don't really pose any danger, regardless of the characters running about.

It goes on and on like this, standing in a giant cavern with toxic chemicals and noxious fumes our brave souls remark briefly about the toxic fumes and agree it's all very toxic but have a look at what they are doing. Nothing. Standing there. No coughs, no red or water eyes, nothing wrong with the air going by their acting. The Doctor letting the spiders starve to death? After trying to work out what they can use to cause vibrations to attract the spiders, she is scanning all over the place. With a Sonic Screwdriver. Sonic, as in it makes a noise, as it it causes vibrations.

By the end of this series I have no idea who this Doctor is meant to be. She has had no real villains to face, no moral dilemma, just a sad, lonely, idiot of a Time Lord who really should have done better.

Jodies deep, seething hatred of white hetrosxual men along with Chibnall's self flagellation and white guilt are painfully cringe inducing in this disaster of a series. Their clear political agenda to punish white hetrosexual men for things that happened centuaries ago is complete insanity and the BBC's attempt at social engineering has backfired in spectacular fashion. After this series I found myself revisiting Trial of a Timelord and found this to be infinitely better than this Absolute Rubbish. Even the unofficial Bootlegs of Doctor who from the 1990's are better (Auton / The Stranger) Doctor who is gone as far as TV shows are concerned and I'm quite sure Big Finish will be raking in the profits now. Can some one tell me how the last of the timelords, who walked away from the great time war, 2000 years old, with the knowledge of most of history, morph in to a confused, scared little girl?
Dont get me wrong, i had no problem with the Doctor being a woman, i expected this season to be a pleasant difference, as i was used to always be pleasantly surprised by every new incarnation.

The new years special left a lot to be desired with boring story lines, too much focus of the companions rather than the sci-fi nature of the show, not even a dalek could save the episode. Also the choice to wipe out the legacy of previous series with events such as the close of unit is unjust and stupid when this has been a long running part of the show. The writing is ruining any chance the first female doctor has to be a good doctor and I hope for a regeneration or change of writer soon or maybe even a hiatus so the producers can re-evaluate what they actually want to write about. The show lacks ongoing themes like in previous series with River Song, Bad Wolf and the crack in the bedroom wall and none of the aliens in the series have thrilled. The doctor has also stood around too much observing events with no reckless behaviour as shown in previous doctors and every time the doctor goes to do anything she explains it first which is boring and unnecessary when other doctors have taken control of the situation and got on with it. The companions act like they are dumb and both the characters of Graham and Ryan are particularly wooden with Bradley Walsh not even being an actor in the first place. The show is watchable but lacks the nature of its former self. I do not recommend. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The showrunner squandered a wonderful opportunity with a female Doctor. Rather than showing a strong, intelligent, and complex Doctor, with 2,000 years of life and experience under her belt, Chris Chibnall gave use a Doctor who was flighty and mostly inconsequential within her own stories. Worse yet, he made the Doctor so much of a pacifist that she is making morally questionable decisions, as she did in the finale by placing Tzim-Sha in solitary confinement for eternity. I have been a fan of Doctor Who for 40 years. I love classic Who and new Who. But, this season was complete garbage. It needs to be fixed. Expand

There's a reason it's been delayed more than a year for season 12.... And it's not cause it was anything close to enjoyable.

Besides a total miscasting of Whitaker and her obvious hatred of men (especially single fathers...), there are so many other female leads who would make an outstanding Doctor. At least they could have chosen someone who's actually seen the show before, maybe even a fan too, but no.... We just get a horrible display of David & Matt's version mashed together with 3rd wave feminist to get someone with no clue what she's doing except to try and imitate what she's seen in some rushed viewing of a couple 10th/11th Dr episodes, thus giving us this train wreck that's probably killed the show.....

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Series 11 of the TV show masquerading as Doctor Who has been astonishingly, unbelievably awful. Watching it has felt like observing a slow motion car crash.

I have no problem with BBC making a bland, tension-free program about a slightly overenthusiastic, vaguely annoying, totally uncharismatic primary school teacher who travels the universe, with 3 dull, characterless, ’friends’ meeting dull, unimaginative aliens that pose no threat in unimaginative stories laden with padding, dreary exposition, technobabble and laboured, simplistic, laughable lectures in political correctness.

However, I do have a problem with calling that program ‘Doctor Who.’ Based on 50-plus years of the show The Doctor should be funny, eccentric, engaging, charismatic and, above all, ALIEN. Jodie Whittaker has failed to realistically display any of these characteristics. I don't know who she is but she is NOT The Doctor.

...and let's start the new Doctors tenure with her falling into outer space! Gosh how will she survive! How exciting! ....ah, she survives by falling through the roof of a train and getting to her feet unharmed. How clever was that resolution? (Clue: not clever at all)

...and did they run out of money half way through redesigning the TARDIS ? It looks like a control column and ...lots of empty shady space. What a letdown.

...and let's use sniper robots in not one, but TWO episodes and make them absolutely useless and unable to hit a single target

...and let's have King James I turn up wandering alone in the middle of the North of England...because the monarchs of England are famous for doing that

...and the frog was not clever or imaginative. It was a sign that the writer didn't have a clue what to do with his story.

...and let's make the Thajirans deadly assassins (how exciting) ...then change our minds and make then desperately tedious watchers of the people as they die.

...and let's make the season finale so tedious that we even admit in the dialogue that we are devoid of new ideas and are ripping off the Season 4 finale.

So …the worst run of 10 episodes in the series 55 year history. I would prefer to see it cancelled than endure any more of this sad travesty but I see that the series will return in 2020 after an extended break….I guess Chris Chibnell needs to recharge his creative batteries, such as they are, after giving us this pile of manure. Please let me know when a new show runner, new lead actor/actress and companions are assigned and I will start watching again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoyed a lot of the Moffat era but it was definitely time for him to go. I was so hopeful that a new show runner and cast would reinvigorate the show. Unfortunately, this season was a huge disappointment. I like the cast and I actually like it when there are multiple companions, so I don't have a problem with that. The production values were decent, but I disliked so many of the decisions. Right from the start... at the end of the Capaldi era we get this big cliff-hanger...oh no! The Doctor has fallen out of the TARDIS and is plummeting towards earth, how dramatic! What is going to happen? Well, nothing. The Fourth Doctor falls off of a radio tower and dies, but this doctor falls from outside the atmosphere, then just pops up. Drama destroyed. I don't like the new theme. I don't like the new intro. Episode 1 is predator but this guy hunts a pathetic weakling with an anxiety disorder. Absolutely zero peril. Hardly any science fiction. Amazon with robots? Really? Spiders, otherwise creepy and cool, march miles to conveniently go into a vault to starve cause they play some EDM music? Lame. I could go on and on and may revise this review but I want to make one thing clear...BBC, this was a disaster. This is what we waited so long for, and now you want us to wait for another 18 months? Get real. Seasons should be every year and Chibnall must go.

BTW, Jodi is not exceptional but quite solid and the SWJ themes are oppressive at times but my dislike isn't about a woman doctor or diversity, it is about crap writing, scoring and directing.

The basic plots of the episodes are good when they're not outright copied from previous seasons, but the script themselves are lackluster and miss every single opportunity o raise above, to have depth or pathos.

Season 10 was very messy and I was convinced a new show runner and actor would give the show what it needed, how wrong I was. This season not only was the worst season of Doctor Who, but they managed to take such an interesting concept, with plenty of history and imagination behind it and strip all that way to leave nothing but a husk of what it use to be.

To me it feels like they watched one episode of the show and took note of only the obvious elements and assumed that made Doctor Who what it is, like for example... space time the Tardis and the docto- Well at least I wish I could say the Doctor, but they were clearly absent throughout this series.

Jodie Whitaker from what I have seen can be an incredible actor, but what I witnessed wasn't at all believable and just screamed bad acting and it's not just Jodie either, a lot of the supporting cast have been sub par and I aren't even sure if it's the direction they've been given or the actors themselves. I definitely have noticed the worst of the episodes tend to be the ones written by the lead writer and it doesn't help that the Chris Chibnall's past work on Doctor Who has been bland and forgettable. Which is sad considering his other works. I just can't understand why he took the job.

He clearly oversees every episode and the work he does do is bland and is just not interesting, especially for a science fiction show. In fact sometimes it's been outright amateurish, for example a lot of stories he has written feel very rushed and have pacing problems. The Ghost Monument and Arachnids in the UK had it pretty noticeably.

The Ghost Monument has a lot of build up and takes it's time to build atmosphere, but the pay off is so underwhelming I won't spoil, but basically they reach the end a short conversation happens and then that's it, no bigger conflict.

Arachnids In The UK, although had better pacing, the resolution again suffered from the same problems and just had the story abruptly finishes and in this case it was even worse, because we don't learn what happens to the spiders in the end, which was at least suppose to be the focus of the entire episode, especially given it's in the episode's name.

I feel I need to address the elephant in the room. A lot of people have been upset regarding Doctor Who with all the politics and Political Correctness being injected into the show and honestly? I don't blame them, so many people have been so much more vocal about this compared to last few seasons and I feel if there wasn't a problem you wouldn't have such a divide amongst fans of the show. In the defence of the show changing the gender of the character I will say Jodie is an easy target, given she is at the centre of all this, but I do think she's not done herself any favours.

Jodie being in the limelight I do feel has an obligation to represent the show and it's fan base and she definitely has been "representing us", but not in a way that promotes good will and in fact furthers this divide amongst fans. Saying that the show appeased the white male gaze and dismissing any criticisms towards the show as being bigoted, misguided and I won't say those people don't exist because they definitely do, but most decent people aren't sexist or racists or any kind of "ist" and this mentality even leaks over into the actual community itself having fans calling people who don't like the female doctor as sexists misogynists.

I am a human and respect other human's, no matter what race, religion, background, gender, sexuality or whatever... TV shouldn't be written with the aim of purely being diverse. I absolutely welcome it, but it should be unconscious and not artificially injected. In addition we should be hiring on the basis of skill level and qualification, rather than a diversity quota. I didn't want to focus on this stuff as I want to review the actual show itself, but given it's so deeply rooted it's hard to avoid.

I think a competent actor or show runner, could do a better job at portraying this type of version of the character, but I don't think the intentions were in the write place and this gravely impeded the show. Which is a shame, especially considering she was going to be the first woman to play the character. I think this idea could work, but I definitely feel we should go back to the familiar, at least for a while until trying this again.

Like I said this could of played out a lot better, but instead of good story telling this just became a mess of politics and trying to write a show based on how forward thinking it is, to be point where the thinking is flawed. I hope they make a lot of changes next series, but they have a heck of a lot of changes to make, to make this work and to save this failure of a season. Given what has happened though I really aren't holding my breath. I welcome a 5-10 year break.

Watcher since Eccelston, I am in disbelief how S11 kept making me space out, almost every episode it feels like someone shoving a TV news report/social issue cake into my face when I am just trying to have an escape Sci fi experience which is what Dr. Who was for so long.
Though all of the past seasons have been cheesy beyond belief they were still imaginative and decently written, and seemed to sprinkle the social commentary in a more organic way. Forced SJW antics seems to be one of the pitfalls for the current show; some non existent writing and zero imagination and WOW the result is disastrous.
The dialogue is directly inspired from M.Night's overly expositional style, every one seem to be trying their best to make us understand what is happening as if they are answering objective exam questions factual and boring no heart, no connect.
(PS thank god Jodie 'seems' to have stopped her Sonic SwissKnife(Screwdriver)pointing/Overarm fast bowling action tht she had in the first few episodes)
The Uptick in the overall look and feel of the show seems to be an odd detriment to emotionally connecting with anything that has been going on in season 11, and that is once again because of the writing and or the extremely cringe filled dialogue which will make every day normal human beings roll your eyes to the back of your head so fast you at at risk of hurting yourself.
The editing work and shot composition is flat and bland, I was watching 'The Eleventh Hour' and I still get roped into the fun shots, some kooky editing and all the fun that is entirely missing from S11.
I am curious if my boredom stems from the outdated and stilted subject matter or is this intentional by the creators because we are going to have a beyond belief amazing climax ???
Almost all of the episodes just keep circling the same dead corpse like a bunch of brain-dead and loudmouthed vultures, just trying so desperately to appeal to demographics who would not even remember this show 2 days after it ended and casting aside us long time fans as well as straight up insulting us long time fans who are the ones keeping the IP alive.

Jodie Whitaker could be a great doctor. However the writting is extremely poor. Chis Chibnal seems to understand very little about writing entertaining stories and characters.

This is what you get when a well established and beloved sci-fi series becomes utterly infested with SJW politics and 3rd wave feminist man hatred. The show had started to descend into the SJW lunacy midway through Peter Capaldi's era, but those shows were as nothing compared to what series 11 would unleash on its viewers. A more preachy, self righteous load of far-leftist pompous **** is impossible to imagine. Gone is the sense of adventure, exploration and jeopardy posed by a variety of malevolent alien forces, instead we are offered the villainy of humanity as a replacement, or to be more accurate, the villainy of the straight white male, the Moriarty to the SJW's Sherlock Holmes. The villains in this series include a substitute Trump, a white racist from the future, and a single father - seriously. And as for the worst case of casting for the title role, Jodie Whittaker, her appalling acting and her shameless plagiarism of Tennant's and Smith's Doctors are only matched by her vilification for the original series, which she described as celebrating the white male gaze. How ironic then that it is Bradley Walsh, a white male actor who landed the role of Graham without any help from the BBC's diversity and equity strategy, provided the only contribution of value in the worst series in the history of Doctor Who. The SJW infestation and destruction of once popular and cherished franchises will be taught in history lessons in the future, and Doctor Who will perhaps be the textbook case in those lessons. I think the show needs to be axed asap. I can't see a way out for the show for at least 10 years thanks to Chibnall and Whittaker, the icebergs to Doctor Who's Titanic. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The new season of Doctor who is a disaster. Season premiers of doctor who, almost always hooked me up, the story, the companions, the doctor everything made me want to watch more. I really wish this was the case with Season 11.

On the premiering episode, we have the doctor just bashing through the roof of a train. That's it. We also have the supporting characters that "coincidentally" know each other but we know nothing about them. Additionally, they are more stale than anything on this show. Then we have probably the most interesting character of this season, grace, just being killed. This has possibly (?) no effect on the characters attitude and behavior, besides crying for like 10 minutes. Time travel doesn't seem to impact the characters at all, like it's a thing they do every day. Every episode I am like "Ok, I'm gonna wait for the interesting part.... oh... it's finished"

No real threats. No Doctor Who Universe. No Backstories. A LOT of exposition. A LOT of "hey look at me talking all scientific-ish". No real story values. No character development. Weak writing. Awkward (to say the least) pace. Nothing.
If it weren't for the cinematography effects, music composition, jodie, and the sets (love the new TARDIS) this would have been a 0.

I am generally a balanced person politically, I see the good and bad in both extremes. Yet, I have to call the current season an SJW mess. Goes around ticking boxes (minority cast - check, equality throwback - check, minority cultural intro episode - check, women being patronised is bad - check). The writing is just SO BAD! A great example of this is the latest episode, The Witchfinders. It's not enough that we can *see* and *feel* how awkward it is when the Doctor gets patronised because she's a woman - no, the makers either think us too stupid to understand or are dogmatic on purpose, the Doctor actually has to *say* it out loud like Mr Mackey in South Park "patronising is bad MKAAAY?". Jodie Whittaker is just LOVELY and MARVELOUS and I absolutely love her as the Doctor (even though she's panting too much :D), but the rest of the companions are just... there - they're pretty/good looking people and do the job but nothing memorable, like they gave them no character apart from being minority and maybe a default sad backstory. And I understand how Doctor Who always was progressive, and I always love it for that, for 10+ years now, but this season is just subpar. Expand

There are some serious issues with cinematography and cutting all over the place, taking the pacing completely out of some scenes, even to the point where they couldn't be bothered to film the Doctor swimming to save somebody, they just cut straight to the point where she arrives on land, this also happens when the Doctor first lands, its completely laughable directing at times.
The CGI is admittedly okay, but it never was great to begin with being a TV show and all.
The soundtrack is absolutely meh for Doctor Who, I don't even think the Doctor has her own theme like Smith and Tennant had, and if she does I didn't notice which sums up the soundtrack, "huh I didn't notice." And Doctor Who has the backing of the BBC ochestra, who has always done a phenomenal job.

The Doctor is so badly written and acted, its a joke, there was a certain nuance to previous Doctors but none of that is here, I don't feel that this is an old time travelling adventurer, its just somebody cosplaying the doctor, badly, even to the point where they rip dialogue from previous Doctors and Jodie adds nothing to the role, no personality other than snark and condescension, I hope she gets a decent arc to kill her off, but thats the only nice thing I can say really.

All the episodes are completely standalone, which would be okay if they were written well, but they aren't and they are so cringy. The companions this time are so weak, other than Bradley who actually has an arc they are all forgettable, the only piece of writing that tried to get me endeared to them was about their racial struggles or politics...wow, as if there was any other way to write people of colour, like I don't know, giving them actual character, struggle and personality, race is not a good thing to base your characters around even bill was more tolerable than these guys because it wasn't about her sexuality 24/7. The cripple doesn't count as a struggle, he is very inconsistent with his disability to the point where I think the writers forgot he had one and he's literally running with no issues, not to mention this makes the Doctor an irresponsible **** for allowing somebody who is physically challenged go on adventures where she is running from danger 24/7...oh and his mother was killed by an alien...so this makes it even less dangeous somehow??? The companions also somehow have more knowledge and capable than the Doctor at times, making the Doctor really dumb and stupid in some parts.
I'm going to admit I didn't watch all the episodes, I tried, I really did, but it was just so bad, I watched the first 2 episodes fully then from that point tried to dip my toes back in but there was just always something awful with each episode, whether it be the bad acting or writing. I completely stopped watching the final episode when the point where the Doctor actually tries to justify using a bomb, "because she can", thats not the Doctor. You know, when people said to SJWs, "if you want to make something, make your own", we didn't mean infiltrate nerd culture and ostracize white males who have supported the very shows you have destroyed, and I mean LITERALLY supported since white British working class males are who pay taxes for the BBC to make this crap.

This is not Doctor Who in any way shape or form.
This has nothing to do with Jodie Whittaker or Tosin Cole, who perform admirably given the pretty hopeless script and poor scenes.

I seem to remember this was a Sci-Fi series with some Science Fantasy interwoven (and romance of course), We seem to be given cultural history lessons on a regular basis with series 11. Cannot lay all the blame on Chris Chibnall. Who came up with Jodie's outfit ? Has the BBC dumbed this series down so much as to not offend anyone on Planet Earth or are we specially targeting the 5 - 7 year olds ?

I will watch this series through to the end and will hope for something better on series 12.

(Graham has potential, but Ryan and Yaz are both dull.) A female Doctor was supposed to be progressive. Instead, we are saddled with gender stereotypes. Suddenly because she is female, she's passive, she's "less arrogant", and she's also no longer the cleverest person in the room. It's an insult to those of us long term female fans who wanted to see ourselves in the Doctor. No longer does the Doctor save the day instead a convenient plot device appears to save it for her. The villains are forgettable as are the plots themselves. Any action has been thrown out. There's no risk or consequences. There's no goofiness or fun. All the moral lessons are still there, but instead of being entertaining and delightful, they're presented with heavy-handed exposition. None of the kids will watch it anymore. We start an episode, and ten minutes in, they're already pulling out their phones to play games or going to another room to watch old episodes of Doctor Who. Yay for the "casual viewers" that the show is now catering to, but this is no longer Doctor Who for most of the long-term fans.

An extra note: please note that most of the critics's reviews are based solely on the first episode which had some hope and not on the entirety of the series.

Looks like Jonathan Powell is smiling from ear to ear!

Chibnall will be reknown for his Reign of Error and dismal numbers in
Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb. Only feminised men will give Chibnall praise.
Compared Series 10 to Series 11, Series 10 quite bearable.

All in all, “The Woman Who Fell To Earth” succeeds as a statement of intent for this brand new era of Doctor Who, telling us that it’s going to be easily accessible, gorgeous to look at and listen to, all about the character drama and brought to life with a lead actress who has a lot of energy. In terms of comparing it to past Who, it’s not a flawless season opener, but it does a terrific job of making us excited for the rest of Doctor No. 13’s tenure.

Goofy and curious, commanding and contemplative, Thirteen is already well on her way to demonstrating the complex emotional makeup that is the Doctor. She also demonstrates a cheerful, can-do spirit. ... With the exception of Tim Shaw’s unappealing self, very little about the episode feels Whovian. Gone is former showrunner Steven Moffat’s sense of play, both in the verbal sparring and convoluted storytelling.

The premiere episode here, “The Woman Who Fell to Earth,” reminded me, more than anything, of “The X-Files,” when it was really good. It takes you back to the days when Doctor Who was a fun sci-fi procedural. ... [The alien] resembles some gleaming villain out of a Marvel movie, which makes his blokey name, Tim Shaw, even more incongruously funny. This is Doctor Who at its best--nerdy and chilling and quick with a joke. And, most significantly of all, generous of spirit, a quality that simply shimmers off Whittaker.
