    Season 2 is a statement of understanding as much as it’s a means to help viewers engage with what’s happening in American culture. Simien and his talented writing staff, directors, and cast are more confident with a season under their belts, and that conviction burns through the screen.

    Maybe Dear White People isn't sure yet how to also be a generation-spanning mystery. Watching the show built over two seasons leaves me with little doubt that Dear White People can grow into that genre as well. In a Too Much TV landscape, Dear White People is a show I didn't write about at all in its first season, but it has become one of the best things on TV and deserves to be discussed as such.

    The season does sag a bit around 206-7, but it’s forgivable given how fascinatingly it ends, with a series of episodes that are moving, funny, and brilliant.

    The series doesn’t always perfectly balance its vibrant sense of humor with its more serious interrogations. But for the most part, it’s as entertaining as it is pointed, deepening the topics of Season 1 by alluding to the reality outside the show.

    It would be great if we could get 10 more episodes of Dear White People as fast as humanly possible, so as to snack on another round of these addictive, delectably formed installments.

I'm pretty amused by the terror this show evokes in some of the users here - it's kind of hilarious reading comments like "why can't there be a show called 'Dear Black People'?" etc. You guys: the show isn't 100% realistic but the issues that it addresses - microaggressions, identity formation, racial trauma, etc. - are real. The perspective from which these issues are being addressed assumes that black people sometimes don't see or experience the world the way white people do, and that is also real. But it isn't scary mind poison, it's just a way to see from another person's perspective. It's nice to watch something with such a specific point of view.… Full Review »
