While remaining properly, deeply funny throughout - Dave does feel like we are past the peak of manbaby comedy.

Subversively endearing. ... “Dave” has to work a little harder to present a fuller story, and that effort is worth it.

Dave is very funny. That’s not the most astute critical assessment, I know. But it’s what you probably most want to know. It’s also deeper than it has any business being, even if it never convincingly answers the question of whether this is a story that needed to be told in the first place.

Dave starts slow but does a good job of introducing (or re-introducing) us to Lil Dicky, and how he became a hip hop star by just being Dave.

“Dave” turns out to be a strong, episodic platform for his persona, providing that the show doesn’t stray too far from the rap skills that can turn a meme into a zeitgeist.

Funny, vulgar, for Burd fans only.

Both Lil Dicky and Dave lean so heavily into the puerile, with only hit-and-miss comic results, that I'm not going to blame anybody unable to get as far as the fifth episode, which serves as an intended re-contextualizing of the themes of the entire show and actually succeeds on that level.

Through five half-hour episodes, it’s hard to say exactly what the show will become, or how its explicitly macho storylines fit into a culture focused on elevating women’s voices, but there looks to be more going on than the poster implies.

Dave Burd made a whole show about how "Dave Burd" has a terrible penis.

Watching “Dave,” though, feels somewhat like being trapped with a terrible party companion, one who both fails to meet the energy of the occasion and is an oversharer besides. It comes bearing at once too much information and too little else of what makes television work.

This show was really good. Not a fan of Lil Dicky Musically, but I’m a fan of this TV show.

Each episode tends to dig a bit into some angle not often spoken about, bi-polar disorder, white people rapping as racism, internet fame, narcissism in relationships, putting career above all else. It's quite genuine and funny and heartfelt, and the rapping is great. It's definitely "white, jewish, Atlanta" but that doesn't make it bad. All the performances are wonderful and y'all should watch it. Full Review »
