Wish this was a 16 episodic-esc series that had much more breathing room to set up characters and emotional pay-off. Really wants to be Cowboy Bebop without properly setting up characters and giving them proper depth and singular moments with them. Not terrible by any means, but this is just style over substance. Hokuto no Ken in emo punk sauce.

(Without the charisma and depth of Hokuto no Ken. And without Ken.)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It never really grabbed me which is a shame as it's actually pretty well-written and paced. Sometimes I felt it was just a bit gratuitous and some of its messages simultaneously felt both jaded and surface-level. The worldbuilding in it is fantastic however and I do think it very effectively expands the world of Cyberpunk. A case of doing all the right things and not getting the right results which is quite ironic given the ending of the series. Expand

Started off well, by the 5th episode I was ready for it to be over. Primarily due to David who just felt wooden and I couldn’t take seriously.

All the other characters were great.

Story was a bit all over the place.

A decent adaptation, it manages to capture the Cyberpunk setting very well with the beautiful cinematography and amazing soundtrack, but the sudden character development feels unnatural, and the entire story is quite rushed and disjointed, IA decent adaptation, it manages to capture the Cyberpunk setting very well with the beautiful cinematography and amazing soundtrack, but the sudden character development feels unnatural, and the entire story is quite rushed and disjointed, I couldn't connect emotionally with any of the characters and I ended up not caring about most of them, even though liked the ending a lot. The main word that comes to mind is "flat." Flat characters, flat animation, a flat world, and a flat story. No depth let alone originality or attention to detail to be detected anywhere.
It tries to pull of a sort of "Battle Angel"1993 (Alita)type of story. However the flat animation, the weak and barely worked out action scenes are barely at the level of late seventies animated series like Gatchaman/Battle of the Planets or Captain Future and nowhere near early nineties works like Battle angel or Akira and that would be the sophistication you need to make a story like this work. However we are more that a quarter of a century further in time. To be taken serious you have to compete with works like Appleseed Ex Machina (2007)and compared to that Cyberpunk Edgerunnners is a bad joke.
That is if the story was any good, which it isn't. It's a barely worked out heap of the most common cyberpunk manga cliches and flat characters. Again a complete lack of depth, detail, and worst originality.
It's like the makers of these series had a nice idea for a series and got the project started but then lost interest and couldn't be bothered to put in the time and energy needed to really make it special.

Really don’t get the hype on this. It’s just another shoot’em up series with some style - but no soul.

The story is bad and predictable, boring even, MC's are strong because of plot, but not as strong as franchise plot. Big up to my man AS for ending it all, as I knew he would. Big up to my man AS for ending it all, as I knew he would. Same old story that you see in so many anime. Akame ga Kill for example, same story, but far far better execution. But I guess the edge runners only got 10 episodes, but then again it didn't have a lot of story to tell. Just mindless watching. Just like they do in NC.

Moreover, trigger made this mess? I'm a big fan of Trigger, but this is their worst work to date. I thought Promare had a weird art style, but at least that story was good. But this wow, what a messy art style, that or Netflix didn't pay them enough. This show had hints of greatness, but unfortunately it falls flat.

There's nothing here you couldn't get from Akira, Ghost in the Shell, or Cowboy Bebop. Even Altered Carbon's animated film blows this out of the water. Only difference is they did it better. Some tie ins and callbacks to the game are there for fans for whatever that's worth, but the whole affair feels so lazy. The writing is childish and lackluster, the world is decent but it's just the same Night City from the game. Also the animation style is generic, the characters are forgettable cliches, even the action scenes have been done better elsewhere. Just not anything of quality or substance here. Expand

Watch Ghost in the Shell, Darker than Black, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, or even Akira.
I believe with my heart that you will then realize how overrated this show is.

I can't understand how today everyones standards have become so low that this, medicore show, this blatant ripoff from other good shows is getting such a high praise.

As someone who actually knows his Cyperpunk animes, this is far below average, 3/10.

Final thought: Even if you don't agree with my rating, please check out those anime above. You won't regret it.

Cybersnooze, if boredom could kill!

Animation is nice, everything else is just so cliché and utterly uninspired. Boredom sets in during the first episode and never lets up.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners decided to watch only for the sake of respect for the original source game. And he received only disappointments, as well as from the game on the day of release. But if Cyberpunk 2077 was brought to mind after 2 years,Cyberpunk: Edgerunners decided to watch only for the sake of respect for the original source game. And he received only disappointments, as well as from the game on the day of release. But if Cyberpunk 2077 was brought to mind after 2 years, then this will not work with the series. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners still somehow entertains the first 2-3 episodes, but then a boring monotonous narrative begins, which for the most part does not use the ENT of the Cyberpunk universe. And you watch it all reflexively with no interest in waiting for the finale. And the final is also completely drained into the toilet. I do not like the anime genre in general and included Cyberpunk: Edgerunners only because of the connection with the game, but if most anime looks like this, then I do not understand this culture at all. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is rubbish I personally think only uses franchise name Expand

Throughout my time watching cyberpunk egerunners, I ask myself why David is behaving this way? Did his mother say before her death that she wanted the son of a murderer?? Expand
