Summary: Martin wins £250 in a lottery, he refuses to save the money. Emily introduces Deirdre to Jean Meredith whose son Sean has Retinopathy of Pre-maturity and unless he's treated he will lose his sight for good. He can only have treatment in America and Emily and the Friends of Weatherfield Hospital have launched an appeal. Emily asks DeirdreMartin wins £250 in a lottery, he refuses to save the money. Emily introduces Deirdre to Jean Meredith whose son Sean has Retinopathy of Pre-maturity and unless he's treated he will lose his sight for good. He can only have treatment in America and Emily and the Friends of Weatherfield Hospital have launched an appeal. Emily asks Deirdre for the Council's help. Bet and Alec return to the Rovers, engaged. Bet has to put on a brave face. The regulars are stunned. BET (about Alec): "'E's bin brought up in same school of life as what I 'ave. The tough one. Makes us birds of a feather. So maybe it's a marriage made in 'eaven." Martin decides to put his savings towards his winnings and buy a car. Bet isn't happy to see Margo behind the bar instead of Betty. She tells Alec she wants a proper wedding, in church.
