As it goes on, the show becomes less of a bro-fest, a bro-stock, a bro-achella and more of a balanced coed ensemble comedy. ... It is all more charming after the fourth episode than after the first.
-
It may not be that remarkable--frankly, it’s quite forgettable--but the show has promise.
-
Their scrapes and misadventures in the pilot are quite reminiscent of "The Hangover" and the show got funnier as it went along. But as is often the case, personal taste will dictate whether one feels the need for a lesson from this Guide on a weekly basis.
-
It's all a little too familiar to be interesting, despite some solid work from the cast. [31 Dec 2015, p.55]
-
Cooper Barret is more enjoyable as a comedy about a group of friends than a bro-tastic survival guide for clueless millennials. If the show can figure that out, it might have something more to teach us.
-
A fitfully funny comedy. ... The show’s conceit ... is innocuous but slim.
-
Aggressively stumbles along without leaving any lasting footprints.
-
A mediocre comedy, but it means well.
-
In addition to boasting a needlessly wordy title, Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life is a generally frantic effort, failing to settle on a structure or rhythm over the four episodes sent to critics and, despite some wholly appealing performances at its center, never finding its voice.
-
There’s plenty of talent in Cooper Barrett, solid sitcom actors delivering crisp, writerly patter. ... But these characters lack the genuine quirk of the ones on Fox’s "New Girl."
