Naturally, the movie has hagiographic leanings. This is a portrait of an accomplished man at the end of his career, and it looks back with admiration.
-
It’s enlightening, but rarely serves as more than a rah-rah rally for Rep. Frank, who is the subject and source material for the film.
-
While Compared to What provides welcome insight into the man, his contributions and how the times gradually changed around him, the filmmakers could have used a clearer road map before embarking on this improbable, scattered, yet mostly entertaining “Journey.”
-
Produced and directed by Sheila Canavan and Michael Chandler, Compared to What? spends too much of its 1 1/2 hours cementing Frank’s legacy as one of the last lawmakers on the Hill who understood the art of compromise.... The film is too admiring of its subject. Compared to What? is more entertaining (and revealing) in a present tense, capturing Frank as an inveterate schlub septuagenarian.
