This show is genuinely ingenious, and hilariously outrageous - not to mention courageous. Plenty of people will find Chappelle's Show offensive - but then again, whenever you do something completely new, it's bound to offend somebody. In this case, it will offend a lot of somebodies. At its best, the show is outrageous and hilarious at once.

Although some of the concepts in this premiere episode are clever - a blind white supremacist who doesn't know he's black, a training film at a Kinko's-type copying business that teaches how to alienate customers - the results aren't as sharp or funny as the ideas. [22 Jan 2003, p.74]
