Not to mention the plobematic ''romance'' that comes with in(they even glamurize rape),but i guess everyone is just happy to look past that, because the actor is a good looking black guy, so calling that out would be ''racist'' LOL... What a stupid piece of garbage, i just hope that this show has the shortest run possible. Expand

This show is a niphomaniac's dream, it's the perfect ''edgy'' and ''witty'' suggestive content that can get any sexual predator an aditional incentive to abuse, since this show seems just fine with romanticizing things like rape. So in order to promote racial iguality we perpetuate toxic practices in the entertainment industry? So it's fine a black actor to take a role that would logically go to a white actor(we're talking about a tv series that portrays European royalty in the 1810s, after all) because of...hum, ''historical repair''? interesting, by this same logic, it would be JUST FINE if a white actor was casted randomly in a japonese period TV Show about japonese royalt, playing a royal japonese character, with a japonese name, because well, we never saw white people represented in asian television, so it would be really nice to make this ''historical repair'', right? Because you know, ''representation matters'', even when it makes no sense... Bridgerton it's just pure sensationalism, a show that lacks any real substance, and exists only to please a handful of stupid and naive people, that are very scandalous on social media, so the companies feel coerced to bow, because they cannot risk losing some sponsorships. This is a show that basically spits in western history(no SJWs, dear ''woke'' people, there were no blacks in the european high society at that time, and certainly there was no black person in the British royal family before Meghan Markle, this is not even a ''hot take'', this is just straight facts LOL) in the name of hypocritical and opportunistic notions of equality, it's the kind of TV garbage that american''liberals''love so much,''oh look how inclusive we are, we put some black people in everything, it's great to fight against racism, what a great person i am!'', but all they do is regurgitate empty speeches and improvise acts of''damage containment'', just to say that they are doing something. This show is an american''damage containment'', a completely hollow pile of crap that sells itself as bold and important when in reality is just another disposable content that exists just so a bunch of hypocritical, condescending, and overly sensitive people can give a little tap in their own backs and sleep well, thinking that they did their part. Bridgerton is a perfect example of American cynicism, they should leave period pieces with the english. (And no, saying things like ''it's just fiction, so they can do whatever they want with the plot and cast actors of any color'' is not a valid argument, because even when an audiovisual work is mostly fictional, if it includes true events of history, and portrays people who really existed, the veracity of these events has to be preserved, respecting the minutiae of what was officially described. Fiction does not mean abdicating basic logic, not when it comes to adapting true events, as much you may take some poetic liberties, the faithful reproduction of central elements of the real story must be maintained, if not, will you not be making a coheecive and respecful piece of entertainment, you will be making a bad joke. So yes, this show is racist for blackwashing white history and casting black actors to play people that would logically be white. That's it. Expand

These people know how to disguise themselves very well as humanists while moving forward with their totalitarian and essentially inhuman agenda. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 1 is the only watchable season. Season 2 is not even Bridgerton at all. It really hammered in the anti-straight white male message as all the male Bridgerton cast are routinely ostracized for being men by the newcomer female characters. The overall theme of Season 2 is “beggars can be choosers, except men cannot be ” with the horrible new character Kate Sharma. The constant dressing down the male characters and constant over serious stern face makes me skip all her scenes, except she’s 92% of all episodes this season. The gist of the this story arc is that these two women Kate and her noble younger STEP-SISTER Edwina have no money. Their mother is a disinherited noble because she married a foreign commoner who also had a kid (Kate), but he died and they’re going to be poor, so they had to go back to England so they can get their grandparents money. The grandparents won’t give a cent because Kate is not their grandchild. That’s what makes this season ridiculous, Kate has no legal claim or say in anything in the plot of this thing, but shoehorns herself into matters that aren’t hers to make decisions on, and she over projects in EVERY scene! Edwina is the only legitimate noble grandchild and she has to marry a noble to get the fortune. No problem, one of Bridgerton men immediately takes an interest in Edwina in courting for marriage, so problem solved! But Kate cock blocks the Bridgerton men every time, this jeopardizing the reason they’re there. And surprise, she does! They get to a wedding and Kate screws it up by meddling in her step-sisters love life. The grandparents of course, revoke their will so these girls will be poor. I was hoping for Lady Danbury or Edwina’s mother to immediately shout Kate down with “WTF do you think you’re doing?! This doesn’t concern you! You ruined everything!” The Bridgeton family are sidelined in the story in favor of Kate and her constant **** about everything. Skip this season. Expand

"I must confess, my dear, that the merest mention of that man's name is in fact enough to season my tapioca pudding with the sour-scented salt of your candle's darkest light."

As my title suggests, Bridgerton's dialogue sounds like an over-the-top parody written by a trio of drunken lit students for a laugh. It constantly feels like the writers are taking the piss, safe in the knowledge that their target audience thinks Austen was a cryogenically-frozen secret agent from the 1960s. When it tries to sound poetic, it too often sounds mawkish ("If you desire the sun and the moon all you have to do is go out and shoot at the sky") or just plain nonsensical ("Darkness is our candle now"). George Orwell termed the latter 'writing without thinking'. When it strains to mimic Austen's mannerly dialogue, it frequently trips into tautology ("She is my *personal* special guest") or cliche ("There is nothing quite like the sweet-scented smell of success"; "You are the bane of my existence and the object of all my desires"). Emulating Austen's graceful cadence and euphonious scansion is hard, and too often the writers throw in 'filler' words, rather than anything nuanced or meaningful, to accentuate it ("Most marriages of the ton are, in fact, mere matters of business, my dear"

Drivel. I got through the first few episode and that was enough. Bad acting, bad script, bad casting. The casting owes more to being woke that to actual talent. It bares no relation to the period is is supposed to portray. It is pointless garbage.

What on earth is going on in this society? Should art go to such extreme lengths to be 'inclusive'. I want to repeat what others have said; indeed it needs to be heard more in public comments, because most people today seem afraid to speak against the PC zeitgeist: Why is this not considered 'Cultural Appropriation' the way it would be if, for example, White people played American native Indians in a modern cowboy movie?? What's next? Biographical movies with a Black Churchill or Roosevelt? What about all-Black re-makes of 'Amadeus' or 'The Crown?' Expand
