The first season of Bloodline was pretty slow, but it was compelling.
This season is just as slow, but most of the time I was just waiting for it to be over. I remember habitually checking the progress bar to see how many minutes were left.

New characters are introduced, but there's no real new story. There's no decades-old mystery that keeps you watching, waiting to find out what happened to the family. There's no "how will it happen" event that's foretold in the voiceover at the start. There's a whiny teenager (well, two) which is accurate, but hard to like.
Leguizamo is good as a crazy guy, but his character really doesn't do much.
After all that, there's no real climax. It kind of plods along with more shots of the beautiful Florida keys with ominous thrums of music. The main character, John, whose job was a big focus of the first season, doesn't actually do any work. His political motivations, which make up a big part of this season, are unclear. Even when directly asked by another character, he can't explain them in any detail.
That's mostly what happens this season: the characters just kind of do things, whether they make sense or not. Without a climactic event to drive the story, it ambles around aimlessly.

Not only does it makes you feel strange, but it also makes you wonder, 'why'?

This season was boring and complicated enough for me to quit the entire show.

Netfix doesn't want season 3 of Bloodline, I tottaly understand why.

I'm thinking the critics that reviewed this show must just be taking themselves too seriously. I don't agree at all that any of the episodes were a chore to sit through, and that nothing really happened in Season 2. What happened was character development of the kind that it too rare on television. I feel like I really know these people, and I want to know what they are going to do next! It's a Shakespearean tragedy. I was only upset that there were just 10 episodes, not 13. The last episode blew me away. It left each character where I might be willing to believe they were destined, but I want at least one more season. I hope the writers look backwards and give us more of the Rayburn's story. What really went on at the Inn when dad Robert was alive and the kids were younger? Thought there were some hints in Season One that there was something secret about the relationship between Robert and the little sister that drowned. I'm thinking that John will contact Detective Potts and that he will reveal what he knows. Great writing, addictive story, wonderful actors, beautiful scenery. I loved it and desperate for a Season Three, please Netflix! Expand

The subpar reviews of Bloodline are categorically insane. I honestly am puzzled as to why this show is not more of a critics favorite- it is absolutely fantastic. I would put it up on a level with Breaking Bad, The Shield, Sopranos, etc. The characterizations, dialogue and acting are fantastic, restrained and sharp- and feel realistic. The setting (Fla Keys) is very interesting and rich with texture and heaviness. The cast includes 2 older respected legends (Shepard, Spacek), 2 outstanding, seasoned TV leads/characters (Chandler, Cardelini), one of the best actors in Australia (a country known for fantastic actors) (Mendelson) and side characters (Sevigny, McShane, Murciano, Leguizamo) who could all be great leading actors in their own right. The show expertly combines complex, believable human/family problems and dysfunction with an exciting heightened plot (no crazier than Breaking Bad, Sopranos, etc) with intrigue, action, criminality, lying, violence, etc and it really works. This show is gripping and addictive. I think the bad or middling reviews by "critics" of this show are absolute garbage and these people are not watching the same incredibly well made, well-plotted written and acted show that I (and my wife and friends) are watching- we cannot wait for Season 3!! Bad, just bad. Should have only been a limited series (and they could have made it like that but they had to add a bunch of awkward/unnecessary cliffhangers at the end of season one)

Didn't like season 2 at all. By the end of the season I felt I wasted my time. I hope they do not bring this back for another season as the entire second season was just characters whining. When Danny died, this show died.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I usually agree with critic reviews, but not this time! Bloodline is still the same great show it was last year, even without Danny! And, once you watch the first episode, you'll most definitely want to see what life has in store for the Rayburns! Rating: 10/10. Expand

Hold on for another ride with Bloodline Season 2! I wasn't too sure anything could hold a candle to Season 1 with all of its twists, secrets, shocks...and its "soft" finale not really promising anything exciting left (albeit a surprise visitor). It's somewhat darker in psychological aspects this time, and some personalities from Season 1 have started to change in Season 2...Watch and you'll see. It's the aftermath from Season 1, but has some interesting new additional characters that once again, share pieces of the web. Oh yes, now there has to be a Season 3, as Season 2's finale is far from the "soft" finale of S1 with so many directions it could go. Expand

Sure it is hard that the show lost its greatest character last season, but this season the cast just keeps getting better and better, and the plot is darker, psychologically stronger, as the Rayburns deal with the "bad thing" they did.

An exception display of writing and acting. The acting here, fellas, is colossal. The characters feel as alive as the growing inner suspense and cliff-hanging bravado.

Even better than season 1. Tense pretty much every minute of every episode. The acting is phenomenal. Many twists and turns. Kevin ruins everything and i still hate the dad.

Like I always said, they killed Danny off too soon. His disaster-of-a-life is what this show was really about and now that he's gone, they're left trying to deal with the ghosts of his life. It's an awesome cast, the acting is superb, but the story just isn't there anymore.

I think Bloodline is a GREAT show! I really enjoyed watching Season 1; however, I felt that a few of the episodes lacked substantial, meaningful content. Because Season 1 had to focus on setting up the plot line, character development and relationships, etc., Season 2 was able to focus more on expanding and adding to the aforementioned. A city may not get blown up every 10 minutes, and there are no superheroes with super powers, but Bloodline is action-packed with psychological action and suspense! I really hope this show comes back for a season 3! Expand

How many times can you cram the word F%#€ into a show until you can't stand to listen to it anymore, get some writers with a little more vocabulary that know how to express themselves.

This tightly-written, brilliantly acted, dark, and poignant series is one I will not soon forget. I just finished all three seasons. To Ben Mendelsohn, you are every bit the actor Deniro is. Your portrayal of Danny was nothing short of perfect and most likely more real than the writers ever envisioned. Deeply human. To the rest of the cast, I applaud you and your performances that brought each character such life that the viewer could almost predict how a character would respond in any given situation. I'm not saying the show was predictable; rather, your performances revealed the essence of each character in both nuanced and hard-hitting scenes. Thank you. Expand

It's so relentlessly self-serious that it becomes increasingly tough to sit through. There's no levity or break from the insistence that what we're watching is a very important story about a family falling apart. If the characters were more active, or even just funnier, that might make them more palatable to hang out with. As it is, they're all mostly there to glower and worry about what they stand to lose.

The first new episode of season two--which takes place just a day after the first season's actions--seemed exponentially long, which was not a good sign. Getting through a second one was also a chore but had enough ridiculous signs of where Bloodline was going this time to be enough evidence to bail right then and there.
