It isn't Avant-Garde to make a comedy that isn't funny. This show isn't the least bit funny. I for one am tired of seeing kids in these shows act like monsters and the grown ups just accepting it. This show takes that and everything else to the most horrendous extreme. There isn't a single moment by a single character in this show that isn't annoying. I just find it impossible to believeIt isn't Avant-Garde to make a comedy that isn't funny. I just find it impossible to believe that neither the makers of this crap not the network that airs it didn't notice how awful this show is when they previewed it. The most pathetic thing is that the actors in this show try so hard, and overact so much, it is painfully obvious that they recognize how awful this material is. Stop the bleeding and cancel this train-wreck before careers are ruined. Expand

We tried 3 different episodes and didnt laugh once. Awful show with a mother who seems devoid of all emotion and compassion... dont get it the reviews on this show at all. Give me Veep, Curb Your Enthusiasm Catastrophe for some real life laughs. Pathetic sad protrayal of an American so called family

Not funny, no dramatic threads, Pamela Adlon can't act. I guess its supposed to be slice of life of divorced women with kids, doesn't work. HIghest rated tv show on metacritic? Every other show in the top 50 on metacritic vastly superior.

I had watched some episodes last year and I insisted on trying to watch season 2 because of the good comments it receives from profesional critics. I find it boring, not realistic and i I did not find a single funny moment. Horrible.

How this show has over 90 critic rating here is beyond me, this show is absolute trash. It's not funny, the writing is awful, the phasing is all over the place.

I'm still not seeing what all the commotion is about this show.

I tried watching it again this season, and I still found it a humorless, depressing show about a person's frustration with life.

I am left wondering - what is the allure of this show?

This is by far one of the worst tv shows this year. The acting was awful, It's not funny and just extremely boring. Don't waste your time with this one, it's beyond terrible, no saving it.

More liberal propaganda, this show is complete **** but has a single mom in it so every PC review site gives it a 10 without watching. Great shows this year like stranger things, mindhunter or game of thrones deserve that 96 rating, not this liberal piece of crap!

It’s mostly about getting through the day, about getting through the week, about getting through life. It’s angry but never bitter. Joyful but never saccharine. It feels a little like magic.

Its ability to take a more wrenching look at womanhood made it one of the best and most distinctive shows of 2016. The second season, which debuts on FX Thursday, is somehow even better.

Better Things gets better--truer and deeper--when Sam is taken by surprise (as when her ex-husband shows up unexpectedly for dinner, or when a pet dies) or when she’s jolted out of her self-absorption by a parental obligation that yields a small revelation for her. Adlon is very good at depicting Sam in mid-mixed-emotions.
