It is the eve of Ambrose's funeral. Sean arrives to give Niamh a gift. Brian opens the door and accepts it on her behalf. Niamh watches Sean from the window. The gift is a mourning brooch.

The next day, all the villagers gather for the funeral. Aidan reads out a police statement from the couple saved by Ambrose before he fell to his death. He is pronounced a hero. After the burial the funeral party return to Fitzgerald's, but the tension is high between Niamh and Sean. He eventually leaves with Emma, unable to handle the situation, and he later confides to Emma the true nature of his relationship with Niamh.

The following day, Siobhan and Niamh go for a walk with Kieran to Durrus Head, retracing the steps so often walked by the family. Ambrose often brought pebbles back from the beach, and would then return them so that they could shine once more: Niamh returns his pebbles to the beach. Sean and Brendan go fishing. Brendan doesn't press Sean into talking about Niamh, but does tell him to give her time. Later, after meeting Emma in Kathleen's shop, Niamh 'phones Sean. They meet and Niamh returns the brooch to Sean. She asks him to stay away for a while as she needs time on her own. Niamh then confesses to Sean her guilt over Ambrose's death: he died knowing she was going to leave him for Sean. Later, Brian tells Niamh to let go of Ambrose for the sake of Kieran and the future.

Elsewhere, Orla has to move out of the Gard house, and encouraged by Kathleen she goes to view Murty Quinn's cottage, only to find Conor Devlin is the landlord. She falls in love with the cottage, and although part of the bargain is to look after Murty's kitchen garden and a pack of geese, she instantly agrees to rent the place. However, on moving in she discovers that living in a run down old cottage with wild geese outside isn't that much fun. After her first night, when the electricity blows, Conor goes into town to buy a spare part, but gets distracted by a leak in his boat. Orla, waiting for Conor, gets more frustrated and decides to go and look for him. When she discovers him in his boat drinking beer, she assumes he is slacking and announces that she will be moving out of the cottage that night.

Feeling guilty for letting her down, Conor fixes up the cottage beautifully. When Orla returns she is delighted, and after hunting him down in a pub their friendship is confirmed by the promise of a future date.

Meanwhile, Danny and Eamonn begin to plan their organic pig farm. Danny enlists the help of Liam and Donal to build his pig ark, but when he proves to be something of a tyrant they down tools.
