As a person with higher functioning autism, I find some aspects of this show relatable and depicted in a funny and wholesome way. If you are at all interested in the topic of autism (which you should be) I suggest giving this show a watch.

Definitely a hidden gem on Netflix, feels a lot like The Fosters except a slightly more serious note. It can be emotional to watch but that’s what makes it so good as a show.

They even got Shannon Briggs as a therapist from ksi logan fight. But sadly they didn't get Logan Paul, they should have because he is the biggest social influencer.

I love Sam! I love his dad, and I love everything about this series except for his sister and his psycologist. I hate them both!

You must watch this show and enjoy it! 100% recommendable.

An excellent show with an (almost) excellent cast. I, personally, think that the actress that plays Sam's mum isn't very good and they could have done with getting a better actress for that part. Atypical ticks all the boxes but still struggles to find meaning. You get the sense the show's creator and writers went out of their way to create a rainbow of characters and situations to balance Sam's austism. As the show has veered intoAtypical ticks all the boxes but still struggles to find meaning. You get the sense the show's creator and writers went out of their way to create a rainbow of characters and situations to balance Sam's austism. As the show has veered into interracial and gay relationships, it is has become increasingly more diffuse and often stumbles as it tries to find both humor and pathos in these odd couples. The oddest is Casey and Izzie. There is absolutely no chemistry between them yet the writers persevere in trying to bring these two together. Just about every scene between appears forced and you really wonder why Casey doesn't go back to Evan, who better balances her character.

The same goes with all these attempts to keep Doug and Elsa apart. At least there appeared to be something between Doug and Megan, but after nearly two seasons of making Elsa pay heavily for her transgression, the writers finally realize the two should come back together. I really felt sorry for Jennifer Jason Leigh, who had to play the meek housewife through all this, enduring endless abuse from Doug, Casey and Sam.

The one relationship that really seems to click is between Sam and Paige. It took a little while to get used to Paige, but Jenna Boyd finds just the right might mix of humor and pathos in her character that it is hard not to fall love, which is what Sam eventually does. It is also helps that both are excellent young actors with great timing between them.

As far as the autism goes, season two is still the best as it introduced to actors with autism. A few appear again in season three, but it remains mostly about Sam and his attempts to deal with his first semester of college. Sarah Gilbert makes a fun cameo as his Ethics professor, with Sam struggling with his many quandaries. All in all, it remains fun to watch. Refreshing to have a television show with a positive outlook, even if it is a bit schmaltzy at times.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I watched all 4 seasons. I was entertained by its humor and drama. At the same time, it drove me crazy. All of the characters are relatable. They're the kind of people I like to know in real life. The reason it drove me crazy is the breakup that happens with the daughter. Who then becomes intimate with a troublesome girl who never leaves the show. I get it. A story to put alternative relationship experiences in the spotlight. Fine. But did the writers have to break the boyfriend's heart like that?? It was painful to watch. Their relationship was cute and special. Then the writers just ended it abruptly. I still don't know if what the writers made her do is believable to the character. To make it all worse they never give her ex-boyfriend a convincing closure. It's just a sad ending for this guy. Other than that, I like everything else about this show. The characters and the actors who portray them are superb. Expand

The show gets a lot of flak for being about a person with Autism, but I can't help but feel like the majority of people calling for it to be canceled haven't bothered to watch an episode.
