The series isn’t breaking any comedic boundaries, but it does entertain.

The show has promise, but as great as Gould and Lavin are, there’s too much of them in the pilot. The show is out of balance and needs to broaden its playing field to become more of an ensemble.

[Mark Feuerstein] brings exuberance and a certain likability to the role as a good son who’s still trying to please his parents. But geez, what a grind 9JKL is. You’ll find more originality in the recipe for cream of boiled water soup.

It’d be easier to buy into the premise if the jokes were fresher, zippier and less worn-out. But like some flailing adults who move home, 9JKL appears to lack ambition.

Everyone is far too involved in each other’s business, because that’s how sitcoms work, but the show’s screechy self-loathing makes that seem damning and toxic rather than just antic and fun.

On the show, family hijinx ensue; out in the audience, it's more like self-lobotomies with machetes.

The show’s one-joke premise--parents can be such buttinskis!--wears thin fast despite the likability of Ms. Lavin and Mr. Gould. A few jokes manage to land, but mostly it’s predictable dialogue about what a smothering mother Ms. Lavin’s character is. There’s also way too much information about the state of Mr. Gould’s testicles.

If you last the entire pilot, and your head doesn’t hurt, you’re a sturdier viewer than I.

This is the sort of show that could just as easily have premiered in 1997, or 1987, or 1977. ... [The] waste of talent that is most irritating about 9JKL.

The show gets off to a dreadful non-start. Old pros like Lavin and Gould are given no choice but to play their parts way, way over the top, because their characters have been brushed far too broadly, with jokes that are beyond stale.

Dana Klein takes her golden touch for TV series (Fresh Off the Boat, Friends With Better Lives, Jesse, Kath & Kim) and does it again.

Dana made her bones on the set of Friends and while some people think she came along at the end of the series and sort of road its coattails I'd not disagree.

9JKL features her husband Mark and he is a great big hunk of sunshine. I hope one day I can meet these two and we can do some things together that maybe most organized religions would not be kosher with. Get a life, religions!

This show is so good and the writing so fresh and original that there is no doubt we'll be watching this well into 2018. You can hear it in the laughter of the crowd ... there's no way to simulate that kind of joy.

Tried toAs per network design, watched TBBT then had a half hour to kill before my next planned show. Kept the tv on CBS and this came on. Tried to watch but it was so bad that I had to change the channel. Plot bad, script bad, casting bad, acting - there wasn’t any. I’d also say the directing was bad, but there wasn’t a whole lot of evidence of any direction either. Recommendation: dump this quick and flush!

Addendum: CBS must be short on mid-season replacements, as they ordered an additional 3 episodes for this season. Hint: reruns of other shows would be better than this! Read the user reviews, CBS, this is a Turkey and it’s way past Thanksgiving! Down the garbage disposal already!

Keep seeing promos for this show and sometimes catch the end of it when turning on the television to watch something else. It has not gotten any better. Someone at CBS must have some kind of hidden deal with this show. It is so bad, and yet they still promote it like they want us to change our minds and start watching. Enough already!

This sitcom is so bad, one would expect to see it on ABC, not CBS!

Canceled! Why did it take so long?
