It's exactly what a sequel should be; it takes an established formula and improves upon it in every way.

Though you'll often be angry at it, Naughty Bear finds a way to make you smile at least once each level, even if you are reloading it for the third or fourth time. It's an example for every game design classroom of what not to do, but almost in spite of the developers, somehow, there's an entertaining game here that you'll inexplicably come back to.

Though one could claim that the campaign and online rewards/achievements and the mediocre level of character customization online make the game worth looking into, in truth, this is a title that doesn't warrant your attention unless you're starved for a taste of Transformers flavour and the most basic gaming experience.

But the game's appeal is short-lived despite its unusually large amount of content, and its lack of an addictive gameplay hook won't knock Peggle off its pedestal any time soon.

With lively graphics and a real pick-up-and-play attitude, XG Blast is an entertainingly addictive game.

It's telling that Earthworm Jim HD is most fun when it's playing with ideas that go beyond its core gameplay mechanics. But it's also telling that this wide range of inventive ideas manage to elevate the game far above its obvious flaws.

It brings more than its fair share of content to the table but fails to ever truly distinguish itself as more than an average mini golf title.

Still when all is said and done, I’d rather pull this out in a tea break or in the evening than try to make sense of a sudoku puzzle.

The poor net code is a disappointment that drags the score down a touch, but as a complete package this is the ultimate recreation of Mixed Martial Arts. EA's very own MMA game has some tough competition.

ModNation Racers' is a huge beast of a kart racer with a never ending list of fun and challenging things to do.

Even if your shoot-'em-up experience is limited to Contra or Metal Slug, I still highly recommend giving this game a shot (again, gratuitous pun intended). Let's hope that SideQuest Studios's Final Prototype isn't actually… well… final.

Despite all its similarities, it offers so much more in terms of content and creativity. The sheer variety and unique twists on ideas make for some of the greatest platforming you'll ever see. You can go through whole stretches of this game and find something new and completely different in each passing level.

The Finnish developers have built a believable universe surrounded by a strong narrative, impressive storytelling techniques and enjoyable combat with a unique twist. It has its flaws with repetition, linearity and some poor presentational issues, but this is a world ripe for a sequel to improve upon every single aspect.

It may have its problems with repetition and unfair AI, but there's no doubting the joy to be had engaging in its phenomenal action.

Rockstar have redeemed themselves and there's no need to return to the city after providing this compelling argument against automotive transportation.

It's just disrupted by some tedious combat and shaky presentation that do little to alleviate the familiarity of a Sands of Time "side story".

Better yet, let’s just leave the on-rails style in the ’90s where it belongs. It’s been a nice ride, but we need to start moving on.

But once those colourful environments are replaced with dull mechanical labs, and the few rocket pack-related ideas presented in the first stage are reused ad infinitum, any initial enthusiasm is dispelled quickly.

3D Dot Game Heroes is challenging, but it's nowhere near as difficult as Demon's Souls - but it really doesn't need to be. The overall experience is relaxed and humorous, and the retro concept stays amusing for the whole ride.

Despite the lack of exhilaration, it's a haunting, beautiful journey. The music is perfect. The water is inviting. Lulls in the action are filled with fascinating dialogue and plot development.

Dementium II spins an interesting, albeit simple, horror narrative on the DS. It's unlike anything else on the hardware and is a perfect example of stylus use done right. It's held back by a few half baked ideas, easy enemies and some questionable sound design, but still delivers a compelling, bite size horror experience.

In a generation of finely tuned animation and seamless open-world environments, a cheeky taste of days gone has more appeal than simply nostalgia. Now pass me a quarter.

The only real problems Lead and Gold faces are because of its net code. You'll often be kicked back to the menu, the game may even crash on occasion and there are some issues finding enough players at times, particularly if you're searching for specific game modes.

It’s got all the addictive puzzle solving that made the first game so awesome. The switch to 3D made things far more interesting; rather than relying on a grid, you’ve got to rotate the entire puzzle and search it piece by piece to figure everything out.

The plot wavers between comic-book badassery and awkward melancholy, making you wonder whether the writing team couldn’t come to an agreement on what kind of story they wanted to tell.

There’s no question that this is the definitive version of Street Fighter IV. With a ton of ‘new’ characters and a vastly improved online component there are a number of great reasons to get back into Street Fighter.

It may not be as showy or flashy as some of its peers on PSN, but for just a few pounds and a tiny 80MB download, it’s a good purchase for retro fans and those who can’t get enough of the sub-genre.
