Costing only $5 bucks, PS3 gamers that enjoy old-school arcade-style gaming won’t find a much better value than the next-generation brick-breaker Hyperballoid HD.
-
No matter how much variety is in each level, or how shiny the graphics are, the simplicity of the gameplay can become a bit redundant after about half an hour or so.
-
It is a well realized casual game that is big on the glitz but short on the revolutionary gameplay elements that can really grab you.
-
At first, Hyperballoid HD offers a nice, traditional brick-breaking experience with a ton of levels, but issues like the lack of high scores and leaderboards keep it from being an easy recommendation for its cheap $4.99 price tag.
-
If Hyperballoid spent just a little more time in development and had just a little bit more of a budget, it could have been a great addition to the flooded ball and paddle genre.
-
It may not be as showy or flashy as some of its peers on PSN, but for just a few pounds and a tiny 80MB download, it’s a good purchase for retro fans and those who can’t get enough of the sub-genre.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKReasonably pretty, totally inoffensive, and crazy cheap at 3.19 quid. [Mar 2010, p.107]
