Motion control-fearing players finally have a way to satisfyingly play one of Link’s most misunderstood adventures. A few design elements can annoy and now feel archaic, sure, but Skyward Sword HD is well worth another stab on Nintendo Switch.

Littlewood will charm the pants off you with its delightful world and characters, but mechanically feels like the lite version of more established management sims out there. Providing that’s what you’re looking for, you can’t go wrong with this little gem.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: The Wings of Ruin is a delightful addition to the Monster Hunter franchise. A compelling story, colourful cast of characters, and a cacophony of cute, cuddly, customizable monsties to befriend make this game a must-have for any Switch collection.

Fast RMX is a blistering fast racer with a very balanced set of vehicles and a nice selection of tracks. It's perfect for some single player score chasing or some multiplayer competition, and it looks great while doing it - though it could've used a few more options here and there. That doesn't really hinder what we've been offered however, and Fast RMX is a racing game I'm happy to recommend to absolutely anyone who might be looking for one. It's just that good.

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection is the perfect way to celebrate a landmark occasion for the series, the games are as fun as they've always been and the addition of online multiplayer means the collection will keep you coming back for years to come.

Much more than a spin-off, Persona 5 Strikers is a worthwhile sequel of the original game. The action-style combat feels at home thanks to many adaptations, and it was great to spend more time with these beloved characters.

With a combination of classic adventure gameplay and a unique battle system, Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan is a refreshing game with a deep message. Its thoughtfulness making for an incredibly wholesome and affecting experience.

With its gentle ambient sounds and pastel colour palette, Mini Motorways presents an enjoyable and addictive city management challenge. It’s a particularly immersive treat when played in handheld mode, featuring a steady difficulty curve that lures you back for more.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy is perfectly at home on Nintendo Switch, its gameplay fun and engaging for players both new and old. Although it has one or two minor issues, the overall experience is one highly recommended to anyone looking for a new game (or three) to sink their teeth into.

The Darkside Detective is a successful spin on the classic point-and-click adventure, delivering an engaging narrative, funny characters and one of the strongest soundtracks in a good while. I sincerely hope a sequel is in the works.

Winds of Change is a visual novel that presents players with an intricate and intertwining high-fantasy narrative full of twists and turns. With an eclectic cast of anthropomorphic animal characters, this visual novel will satisfy story lovers and animal lovers alike.

Game Dev Tycoon displays masterful execution of balancing addictiveness and enjoyability, despite the niggling feeling that they merely copied and/or built-upon Kairosoft’s Game Dev Story.

SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech is beautifully driven forward by a touching and humorous story, while its engaging card-based battle system will keep you entertained. Once the experience is over, though, there is little replay value. Overall, another excellent addition to the SteamWorld franchise.

While pixelated games struggle to charm players these days, Songbird Symphony manages it with ease with its witty platforming and fresh musical spin. Despite its brief nature, it is an experience that stands out beyond your short time with it.

Dawn of the Monsters isn’t reinventing anything, but that lets it focus on what counts – punching big monsters in the mouth. If that sounds like fun to you, then you won’t be disappointed.

BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! is the best offering in the series so far, and a fine entry point for those without a 3DS. Co-op play is a neat new addition – though the experience is rather familiar for those who have played a BOXBOY! title before.

Take a slice of side scrolling action game, add to that some match-3 elements, and mixes it all with a pinch of visual novel. The result is Battle Chef Brigade, a beautifully crafted game about cooking that delivers something unique due to its complementary gameplay and engaging narrative.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair doesn’t have the charm of the original game, but it is a very good 2.5 platformer. Remember that this is a spin-off and not a sequel and you’ll enjoy yourself more.

Calling Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes a Musou almost feels like a disservice. It is a game that recontextualizes the most interesting elements from the Fire Emblem series into a new experience that is equal parts familiar and unique.

By ditching some classic elements of the rogue-like genre in favour of a permanent progression system, Rogue Legacy delivers a more welcoming and rewarding experience – even if it can get a bit repetitive with time.

Fire Emblem Engage delivers fan-service and new ideas in equal measure, creating a game well worth your time even if you’re not a Fire Emblem fan. Despite some story and dialogue missteps, it’s another solid entry in the long-running franchise.

Dungeons of Dreadrock doesn’t do anything substantially new but manages to feel interesting and unique because of the way each level has been hand-crafted, carefully considering the interactions between the few mechanics at your fingertips.

Unique and beautiful, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon isn’t afraid to mix elements from different genres to explore the somewhat unique concept of a ‘co-op game that you play alone’. The best part being that it executes that idea in an almost flawless manner.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled achieves the same highs as the N. Sane Trilogy in its revitalisation of another Naughty Dog classic, and goes one step further by modernising the racer with an online component that has a clear road-ahead. With the same experience as other consoles – aside from some visuals tweaks – and more DLC in the pipeline, it’s a worthy alternative to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Children of Morta demonstrates how to do a roguelike well: frequent upgrades smooth the difficulty curve, an engaging story keeps things fresh, and there’s plenty of depth in combat. It’s difficult and sometimes repetitive, but looks and feels the part.

Snipperclips - Cut it out, together! is great fun for all the family. It may be a little on the short side, but with two or more people playing those hours will be both frantic and funny. Arguably the second best game of the Switch's launch, I cannot recommend this eShop title enough.

It may offer nothing new from past ports, but even in its creaky age, Resident Evil 4 remains a stone-cold classic. From its terrifyingly opening to the final getaway, it’s a hell of a ride that most AAA single-player campaigns only wish they could be.

Pretty. Inoffensive. Rote. Others might find the DNA of something pure that they want to pass on to someone close: a niece or nephew, son or daughter. Trine is a series that is well worth introducing to those just getting to grips with the medium. And this installment adds to that library of introductory possibilities. But it doesn’t use the platform it has to push boundaries and explore the unknown in fairytale video games.
