  1. Its animation is simply glorious, but its story and characters are trite.
  2. Cohen drives the film at a galloping pace, but it's not fast enough to outrun its absurdity.
  3. It's aimed squarely at a young dating audience, and is not likely to be hugely captivating for anyone out of that demographic.
  4. A film with a real depth, resonance and texture, and room for an ensemble of supporting characters.
  5. It's so beautiful and moving and simple that I'm willing to forgive Majidi his contrivances.
  6. Gunnarsson masterfully weaves these strands into a bold, multilayered tapestry surrounding a powerful story.

A beautifully drawn film and engaging story marred only by its vague character development and mediocre voice-overs.
  7. In fact, when not kicking butt, (Li)'s kind of a blank spot in the center of the screen.
  8. She's foul-mouthed, trashy, a legal pit bull ... and she's wonderful.
  9. So grim and humorless that the first half almost sinks into silliness.
  10. Here and there an inspired shot makes the film come alive, and at least three of its sequences had me positioned well on the edge of my seat.
  11. Exotic Ninth Gate breaks down into clichés.
  12. Falls disastrously flat.
  13. [Jarmusch] seems...to introduce gratuitous bloodshed that is out of sync with the engaging, offbeat tempo and dark, comedic moral fable that has come before.
  14. Scores high on nastiness, but it has as many surprisingly funny moments as offensive ones.
  15. Has good intentions and the element of surprise -- it's never quite clear where it's going at any given point.
  16. Its overall effect is haunting, hypnotic and moving in a profound and unexpected way.
  17. An edgy comedy with heart.
  18. A terrific movie about middle-age malaise and a comedy of unusual wit and drollness.
  19. He's (Affleck) vaguely likable, but he's outshone by his co-stars and never particularly believable in his role.
  20. A total guilty pleasure.
  21. Dizdar humorously compares and contrasts extremes in economics and lifestyles and looks at the west through the eyes of an outsider.
  22. If you find her (Ryan) distinctive persona to be too irritatingly cute to bear, this mannered movie is likely to play like fingernails on a blackboard .
  23. A pedestrian movie with a predictable romance at its heart.
  24. An empowering film for children, showing them at their most capable, working through problems and finding innovative solutions to overcome what seems like an insurmountable obstacle.
  25. Ends up being empty, anti-climactic and overlong.
  26. Both sophisticated and elemental enough for all ages to grasp the message.
  27. Most of its characters come off as being one-dimensional and stereotypical, and the film's sensibility leaves a very bad taste in the mouth.
  28. It's an original and rather clever premise, but first-time director Chris Koch doesn't do anything with it.
  29. It doesn't really come off, but it's an admirably ambitious, and mostly very engaging, coming-of-age adventure that apes the spirit of Joseph Conrad.
