  1. The premise of Jason X is silly but strangely believable.
  2. Sexual curiosity is a very dangerous thing in Rain, a dazzling mood piece from New Zealand filmmaker Christine Jeffs.
  3. All the movie's narrative gymnastics can't disguise the fact that it's inauthentic at its core and that its story just isn't worth telling.
  4. What is meant to be brave comes off as gimmicky and immature.
  5. It's a buoyant comedy with more warmth and generosity of spirit than anything else in theaters right now.
  6. The old saying, "It's hard to find good help nowadays" takes on a new meaning in Murderous Maids.
  7. Yet it fails to enchant for a reason that might not be fair, but that's just how it is: We've seen outer space simulated so well in sci-fi movies that the real thing seems like old stuff.
  8. A near miss, a respectable but uninspired thriller that's intelligent and considered in its details, but ultimately weak in its impact.
  9. Think of Enigma as a cerebral thriller about the horror of war and the hope that people had in spite of it.
  10. Like every other action movie, it's designed for a 14-year-old boy's mentality, but it's enjoyable enough to turn most people into 14-year-old boys.
  11. Dreary movie.
  12. Fast-paced and unerringly surprising.
  13. With most movies that fail, the fault can be ascribed to carelessness or lack or inspiration or cynicism. But Chelsea Walls, directed by actor Ethan Hawke, is clearly a labor of love.
  14. It could have been something special, but two things drag it down to mediocrity -- director Clare Peploe's misunderstanding of Marivaux's rhythms, and Mira Sorvino's limitations as a classical actress.
  15. Bogdanovich takes a tale of old Hollywood and infuses it with velocity and enthusiasm.
  16. The result is a satisfying and original picture.
  17. Dumb but also unrelentingly dark and ugly, thereby depriving the viewer of any camp value.
  18. Handsome and sincere but slightly awkward in its combination of entertainment and evangelical boosterism.
  19. Modern film noir done with flair and commitment.
  20. Great trash, one of those mediocre movies that in its own crass way is more enjoyable than most things that get nominated for Oscars.
  21. Nothing but a showcase for the inherent comedic gifts of Cameron Diaz. The problem is she doesn't have any.
  22. May be the most magnetic, most beautiful and bravest Carmen ever to grace a stage or film set.
  23. Pleasing but routine British comedy.
  24. The movie suffers from two fatal ailments -- a dearth of vitality and a story that's shapeless and uninflected.
  25. Has some faults, but it manages to keep its audience either angry or jumpy from start to finish.
  26. It seems naive, almost delusional.
  27. Has to go down as a failed comedy. It's just not enough of a comedy.
  28. Crush is that strange mixed bag -- an otherwise wretched movie in which an actress gets to do some of her best work.
  29. The satire is unfocused, while the story goes nowhere. Too bad. The material is ripe for satire.
  30. Eschews cliches and cuts to the truth.
