Guns, Gore & Cannoli 2 is a charming 2D action/shooter which is highly recommended to all the old and new fans of the genre and it is a bright example of how sequels can be done right.

Battle Brothers immersed me more than what you would expect from “just” a turn-based tactical RPG. I love its artistic approach, its mechanics to every last bit, and of course its unforgiving difficulty curve. I would not have it any other way. In this reviewer's humble opinion, this is easily the leading candidate for indie game of 2017.

The Excavation of Hob's Barrow is an adventure of a rare "harvest", which, if it had been released in the golden age of adventures, would now be remembered as a top example of the genre. With its brilliantly written plot and a thrilling finale, Cloak & Dagger's creation has already carved out a lofty place among the best indie games of the year.

Grandia II: Anniversary Edition is a remarkable re-release of a classic title, guaranteed to be loved by the fans of the genre, but it could have a significantly higher value for money, if the developers had made more effort to really enhance the game.

Everyone who played the original game back in the 80's, should be right at home. It's the 21st Century version of "Elite." But newer, uninitiated players may find it strangely desolate and repetitive. A grand space simulation, aimed at the series' hardcore fans.

A familiar time travel concept, but with quite an interesting approach, Old Skies is another strong adventure in the trophy case of Wadjet Eye Games.

The Ties That Bind shines with polish and quality but ultimately feels like a retread of familiar territory. Perhaps seven years of television and four years of interactive fiction have been enough for the Walking Dead. A quality work through and through but long-time fans will feel like they are in too familiar territory.

Despite the rather overstuffed Legion Management aspect and the lingering feeling of watching a "Netflix adaptation" of ancient Rome, the game's objective-based combat, high production values, as well as the plethora of available RP options, make Rome the most complete Expeditions game yet.

Twisted like a bad acid trip through Stephen King's subconscious, Dropsy manages to be at the same time surreal, challenging and obscurely heart warming, for all the wrong reasons. Whilst definitely not for everyone, Dropsy is an absolutely unique voice amongst indie adventure games.

Due to its demanding nature and deliberate style of gameplay, Darkwood may not be up everyone's alley. Nonetheless, it's undeniably a survival horror done right case, entangling the player with its reverie-like ambience in a gnarled realm of mildew smells and ghastly aberrations.

An old-school Run 'n' Gun with a few modern touches, Neon Inferno is a small dose of adrenaline and nostalgia, the kind we need to take us back to a time when everything was simpler and carefree.

Possibly the most topical, vibrant, relatable and contemporary writing in the video games art form right now. Dontnod creates a tour de force of "magical realism" and if Roads is any indication, Life Is Strange 2 will feature heavily in Best of Year lists in a few months.

Last Train Home is primarily a product of love, a sincere testimony of the soul. Not only is it based on a widely unknown historical event, it's also an RTS, a category that has been out of the commercial spotlight for decades. The makers of the Ashborne Games studio didn't have commercial success as a priority; their motives were purer. The result, at least in terms of quality, does them justice.

High definition textures do a solid job of re-introducing one of gaming’s enduring masterpieces to a younger generation of gamers. Whilst not providing adequate incentive to re-purchase for gamers who already own these time capsule titles, Bioshock: The Collection makes an ideal gift for introducing someone to the magical and never ending journey of PC Gaming.

If you learned English by obsessively typing “PICK UP DAGGER, THROW DAGGER” a hundred times a day, forever, this is for you. If you followed a White Elk into the forest and fallen in love with a Dryad and the Gods listening in on Erana’s Peace, this is for you. Made unapologetically for the die-hard Quest For Glory fans, Hero-U exceeds the sum of its parts to deliver an experience that is part journey through time, part heartfelt tribute to an innocence you believed long lost and a damn addictive game in its own right.

A satisfying Hack & Slash game that requires a tactical approach rather than mindless clicking in order to enjoy it in full. The use of the rule-set, tables and classes from Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Edition turns an already huge game in a replayable heaven. My only gripe would be the path-finding of characters, something that has plagued all Infinity Engine games since their inception.

Ruined King is an excellent western JRPG and is one of the most pleasant surprises of the year. Combining an extensive and interesting campaign, a well thought out battle system, lovely graphics, and impressive soundtrack, it will satisfy turn-based RPG's fans to the fullest. Far Cry 4 is an amazing game, there is no doubt about it. Especially in a matter of content is unrivaled: huge length of the single player campaign, co-op and multiplayer capabilities and an integrated map editor. However, we hope that it will not fall in the pitfall of the annual releases like other Ubisoft's titles.

Super Time Force Ultra is one of the best indie games you can find, which offers a "smart" run 'n' gun action guaranteed to keep you glued to your seat, trying to master the "tricks" of time. However, this experience may not last long.

Even though its writing comes off mostly as a well-meaning but adolescently naïve and anime inspired take on the bleak cyberpunk dystopia towards which we are invariably headed, The Red Strings Club piques the player’s interest by constantly throwing a new gameplay mechanic at them, with its social engineering mini-game presenting a rewarding challenge that all cyberpunk enthusiasts will relish.

Bury me, my love gives us an inside look of the Syrian refugee crisis that is still ongoing. It does so though the personal story of a couple as told via a messaging app. The PC version is probably not the ideal medium though, as full immersiveness is achieved in the mobile version. A good title for people who have no knowledge of the issues examined.

Its strong points (story and combat system) are more than enough to keep you on your toes for at least 15-16 hours, while the PC version enjoys improved graphics, steady frame rate and a convenient auto-save system. However, Yakuza Kiwami shows its age and we would hardly recommend it as a starting title for newcomers - Yakuza 0 earns that title.

Diablo 2 remains an addictive experience capable of keeping you busy for hours. The endgame grind shows how far the genre has moved forward to embellish the loot piata, but its itemization remains unsurpassed and an example to follow.
