Llamasoft: the Jeff Minter Story is a fairly comprehensive collection of his 80's catalogue which includes curios like Soundscape and Psychedelia. We get a lot of written correspondence from the man himself but very little in the way of video footage. It can feel a little lacking when compared to the other compilations Digital Eclipse has produced. I still found it fascinating to see how his ideas evolved over time and how the Llamasoft aesthetic coalesced. It's just a real shame the game list halts before the company's modern resurgence. Those games easy to find but it would've been nice to hear Minter and Zorzin cover their more recent projects in-depth.

In a sea of roguelikes, you might as well go to the source. Brut@l is a brilliantly addictive reimagining of the original Rogue with smart graphics and accessible combat.

Raiden III x MIKADO MANIAX is a good combination of great shoot 'em up fundamentals, improved visuals, excellent music and gameplay elements that are a bit less fussy than later games in the series.

For a game where all you are doing is preparing food, Overcooked may well be the best party game on PSN. Best played with others, Team 17’s latest is whirlwind of beautiful chaos.

We'll take any Cave shoot 'em up ports that we can get and while Akai Katana isn't the very best game in their catalogue it's still a fun, vibrant and playable now as it was thirteen years ago. It's just a shame that this package wasn't fleshed out with more features, especially a tutorial.

On the road, where it matters, Payback is the most fun we've had with a Need for Speed game in a long time and while there are some questionable design choices and shady things going on regarding player progression and customisation, the developers do seem to be reacting to the negative feedback.

The masters of twin-stick shooting are back and Nex Machina is as polished in both presentation and gameplay as you’d expect. It is a little lacking in content and variety but what’s here is of the very highest level the genre has to offer.

The Jackbox Party Pack 8 is Jackbox as we know and love it. A compilation of five party games of which two are brilliant and the rest are okay. We'll be returning to this one over and over.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is a great Metroidvania style game. A little easy and on the short side but that just means it leaves you wanting more. Unlocking the upgrades and using those abilities to discover new areas is incredibly enjoyable and is only heightened by the high quality and charming presentation.

Tricky Towers may look like the sort of unwanted freebie that PS+ owners have been bemoaning for years but this is good. When you get over the fact that it isn’t quite Tetris, the clever game engine makes Tricky Towers the most addictive puzzler on PSN and with its well-populated online community, this is the perfect pick up and play game around.

Yesterday Origins updates the point and click genre and manages to tell a great thriller story at the same time. With good presentation, excellent voice acting and well thought out puzzles Yesterday Origins is a game which I can easily recommend.

Remnant II is a great shooter with lush visuals and compelling enemies and when played as such is a fantastic sequel. The RPG/loot mechanics never really excel though and feel more like additional weight to the game rather than an interesting point of focus. And that miserable final boss battle may have taken ten years off of our lives.

Alwa's Legacy is incredibly well done. Whilst the story can bleed off into the background, the real joy is taken from discovering new items and locations. Your abilities come quickly and it really allows you to move through the world at a decent pace. They compliment each other well and give you options to get from one spot to another. The music and pixel art is top notch. The score is catchy and the background art is really sharp. Overall, it's a pretty accomplished adventure.

Pocky & Rocky Reshrined is a tasteful but ambitious remix of a SNES favourite that should appeal to shoot 'em up fans and retro gamers generally. It might be a bit too tough for casual players though.

We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie is a great remaster of the 2005 original and remains as fun now as it once was. The new levels, while welcome, are a slight addition. Get to it at any rate as it’s still the last Katamari game before Keita Takahashi called it a day with Namco and the series lost the wide eyed innocence it once had.

Promenade is a great platformer with loads to do. If you romp through the campaign without stopping to take it in, you’ll be doing it a disservice. A game to be savoured. Perhaps a bit too tough in latter stages to the extent we ran out of steam.

Battle Chasers Nightwar is a great game. It has an excellent art style with some wonderfully detailed characters and environmental features. The combat is interesting and provides a different take on turn based battles. Whilst it isn't a massive game there is more than enough to do with a variety of distractions along the way. Overall this is a very easy game to recommend.

Genesis Alpha One is one of the few survival titles that blends a real sense of high-stakes urgency while also juggling several gameplay styles in the process. Even though this may seem unwieldy on paper and fraught with challenges in gameplay structure and technical aspects, Radiation Blue have managed to marry together FPS, Management sim, RTS and roguelikes into a unique and compelling experience.

F1 2020 manages to breathe new life into its single player content with the My Team mode. Managing your own team is compelling and feels more involved than the usual career options. The game's visuals are starting to look long in the tooth and the load times feel lengthy. Despite this, the core of the game remains intact. Racing is aggressive and enjoyable and there's plenty of sink your time into.

Faeria is a great CCG battler in the grand tradition of Magic and Hearthstone, and just like those it's dependent on how many hours you plough into it in terms of what it gives back. Make no mistake, Faeria wants to be the reason you turn on your PS4. Perhaps the timing of its release is the little off with the imminent PS5 release, but it's no less addictive. We expect we'll continue to dip in regardless.

As expected, Harmonix's take on VR-powered rhythm action has a lot going for it thanks to smart gameplay and very accurate controls. All of which makes Audica a game that could be a party favourite as well as a single-player obsession.

Blackwood Crossing garnered a genuine emotional response courtesy of some considered writing and smart pacing. Whilst short, this tale is certainly memorable with a likeable star pairing. I felt engrossed and I’m glad I’ve seen it through. If the asking price might seem a bit steep, keep an eye on it. This is definitely worth playing.

Robocop: Rogue City is the closest thing you'll get to a good third Robocop movie and it plays pretty damn well too. If you're not a fan of the first film then this might not be for you but if you're a normal person, there's a lot to like about this game.

Free from the restrictions of franchises LEGO City Undercover has flourished into a really enjoyable and very funny game. The open world is a ton of fun to play with and the addition of a co-op mode adds a whole new dynamic to this game. LEGO City Undercover manages to succeed in the rarest of things and has successfully created an enjoyable open world.
