If you can look past Mr. Tako‘s frustrations, you’ll find a heartwarming story with various intricacies that call attention to the cruelty of the world. If you cannot, you will find that the game’s visuals, sound, and a tale of love and peace conquering hatred and war aren’t enough to save it from its myriad gameplay issues.

For gamers who love the rhythm genre and want to experience every new thing it has to offer, they should play Lost in Harmony. They will appreciate the game’s experimentation, at the very least. (I did, anyway.) But maybe they should skip the Switch version and play it on a phone instead, the way it was clearly intended. In fact, maybe everyone would be better off just playing the game for free on a phone with touch controls.

911 Operator is fun little title, but you have to get past a lot of repetition. The difficulty can be a little harsh too when you don’t understand everything that’s going on. I lost quite a few units at the beginning of the game as I didn’t know what I was sending my police officers into. By the end, though, I was flying through the scenarios with ease. You could comfortably finish the game in a few hours, but for such a budget title I think that is reasonable. If you fancy challenging your mind for a few hours with something that isn’t too frenetic, then you might want to give this a go.

PUSS! is a challenging mouse maze experience, both due to deliberate game design (that's good) and some gameplay quirks and confusing visuals (that's bad). The game will be too frustrating and bewildering for some, while others will enjoy the maddening design and get a rush of satisfaction from completing it.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is an ambitious game that tries to pit 20 classic Nick characters against each other in a platform brawler highly reminiscent of Super Smash Bros. However, due to technical issues and a lack of immersive details like voice acting, it doesn't stand up to the competition. This game will excite people who love Nickelodeon and platform brawlers but will be a hard sell to anyone else.

Corpse Party: Blood Drive feels imbalanced between its exploration and visual novel aspects. Luckily, what I did enjoy, I got engrossed in, and there are moments of genius in both segments. But ultimately, the exploration feels like an afterthought compared to the visual novel component. It’s definitely hard to recommend unless you’re already a Corpse Party fan.

Those looking for challenge or an arcade-like experience will find Shapes of Grey a good time killer, but casual or inexperienced gamers will find themselves stuck forever.

There is a lot to like about InnerSpace, especially for fans of flight simulators. As already stated, the game looks and sounds great. There are numerous areas to explore, several vehicles to unlock, and a handful of really dynamic boss encounters. The real shame is that is not enough to really make InnerSpace fun to play. At best it feels like a chore and at worst you’ll want to snap your Switch in half. If you can grasp the flight controls and are looking for a nonlinear story games then InnerSpace is available now on the Nintendo Switch.

I’ve been struggling with how to rate The Wonderful 101: Remastered. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever played before, and it’s fantastic how it’s getting a second chance on the Nintendo Switch. I love its core gimmick; I like how it has the Bayonetta-like secret battles, optional levels, and grading system; and there were special moments that made me grin from ear to ear. But I died so many times for often frivolous reasons, used countless healing items, and even said out loud, “I’m not having fun.” You should definitely experience a taste of this game in some form at least once, but you’ll only stick with it if you are especially forgiving of its faults.

Zombie is a perfect fit for the Switch. It’s something that feels more fun to experience on the go instead of playing at home. The game is easy to pick up but can be difficult if you’re trying to get all three stars. While not great, it’s an enjoyable way to kill some time. It’s a nice palette cleanser from all of the AAA games on the market at the moment. If you’re into short experiences and casual games that you can have fun with a few minutes at a time, I, Zombie is worth checking out.

Ultimately, Catan is a faithful recreation of the classic board game, and for that, I applaud it. I love being able to take Catan with me wherever I go and never concerning myself with having people to play with me. You probably won’t be spending large chunks of time with this in a single sitting, but the game’s autosave feature makes it incredibly convenient to pick up and put down on a whim. Catan isn’t perfect, but if you’re a fan of board games, you should enjoy it nonetheless.

Had I not played other snowboarding titles like Steep and Snowboard SuperJam, I probably would have enjoyed this more. But by comparison, it just falls short. This isn’t a terrible snowboarding game; it’s just more tepid than expected. If you’re a fan of the titles I’ve mentioned or other classics like 1080, you’re better off sticking with them.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash is a wonderful looking game with very little substance. The game is a hollow corpse when held up against the franchise’s history. I just don’t understand how a franchise hitting a console with so many opportunities such as the Wii U could have fallen so hard on its face.

I wanted to love Gear Club Unlimited, I really did, but I’m sorry to say that I don’t. I have been a big fan of Eden Games since their V-Rally days, but I think they have dropped the ball a little here. I understand that this is a port of their racing game for iOS and Android, but this could have been the first and definitive realistic racer on Switch. Unfortunately, it only succeeds in being the first realistic racer on the system. There is a reasonable amount of fun to be had here for racing game fans, but this isn’t going to be the crossover hit that games like Forza or Gran Turismo are on their respective platforms. If you want an arcade racer on Switch you’d be a fool not to buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. If you really want a more realistic-style racer then Gear Club Unlimited is worth trying, just don’t expect too much.

If you buy Oh My Godheads, you will get an exciting local-multiplayer CTF game with a few tacked-on, lesser modes. There is not much to it outside of Capture the Head, and even that probably will not hold your attention for too long. Frankly, it is hard to recommend when party games like Ultimate Chicken Horse and Towerfall are available on Switch.

Brief Battles has some interesting ideas that could have made for a solid platform fighter, but this one needed way more ironing out. Despite a few good times to be had, the game ultimately doesn’t come close to meeting the bar set by other great indie platform fighters. It definitely has its moments, like the rush of satisfaction that follows landing a ground pound from way high up, but your time is better spent with same-genre titles like TowerFall, Duck Game, and Retimed. Promised free updates may redeem this title down the line with better modes and more carefully crafted arenas, but for now, clunky menus and long load times make an obstacle out of even setting up Brief Battles, and excessive stage hazards, wonky controls, and trite objectives mean that the prize for navigating those menus isn’t worth it.

As a quick refresher between Grand Prix in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Circle of Sumo will serve well, but that’s the height of its potential. As far as local multiplayer goes, you can do a lot better elsewhere on the Switch eShop, especially in a post-Ultimate world.

Jedi Outcast is a fun trip down memory lane. However, newcomers are likely to be too put off by the frustrations and poorly-aged game design of an ultimately incomplete port of a once-incredible title.

This is the Police isn’t a bad game, but it feels like the game could have been much more interesting with a little more variety in the actual gameplay. Managing your cops can be fun, and some interesting things happen throughout the course of the game, but a little more variety to keep things fresh throughout would have went a long way with the game. As it stands This is the Police is a decent game that, for many, will overstay its welcome.

RCTA isn’t a bad game, but the lack of any real challenge and overly-simplified design aspects may very well turn away season virtual park builders. As a result, I’m extremely hesitant to call this a simulator, as it feels far more like a casual game.

It’s short, the game doesn’t give you feedback, and is incredibly basic, but the gameplay was fun—even if I had no idea what I was doing half the time.

For now, it is what it is, and I would only recommend it to bored Wii U owners with spare money to burn.

If not for light content and clunky online, Morphies Law would stand out on the Switch indie scene. Offline, the unique size-changing gameplay works very well and the available maps and modes are encouraging. The game will be much easier to recommend if online stability and more content are ever added via DLC in the future. In the meantime, though, if you have several Switch-owning friends who can get together for some download play, or if you just really want to run around with misshapen offline bots, then Morphies Law may be a worthy addition to your library.

Mario die-hards that only have a 3DS will find some enjoyment in playing the new mode, and the limited selection of online courses, but without the ability to share your created courses with the world, it seems like a waste of time.

The bright, simple level design and the soothing soundtrack were a joy to experience and stopped me from tearing my hair out over some of the harder segments. I enjoyed my time playing Etherborn, but I also didn’t feel anything special while doing so. If you’re really in the mood for a puzzle game, then Etherborn may be worth checking out, but outside of that, you won’t be worse off for skipping it.

Say No! More has extremely vapid gameplay and can be finished in less than two hours, but the art style and sense of humor are so refreshing that the game is still weirdly charming.

Final Fantasy Explorers just feels shallow. It’s not that it is a bad game, it’s just painfully average in almost every respect.

Land of Screens tells a short, hokey, on-the-nose story about disconnecting from technology and reconnecting with friends and family, and it's not remarkable in any way. Fortunately, the art and sound are excellent, making it a decent way to spend a couple hours.
