It took me quite a few hours to get my head around it, especially at the start when I was trying to fight and learn the gaming mechanics at the same time. However, if you can move past this initial frustration phase, Resonance of Fate features some great gaming moments and an interesting story with three very likeable characters.

More unique events, more little plot threads to pull on and a greater variety of hazards, would all go a long way to elevate the climb. For now though, Insurmountable is a fun, if simple little experience, that’s perfect for those who want something chill to fill an hour or two.

For those perhaps new to the genre, or if you aren’t interested in park management that gets too involved, then Jurassic World Evolution 3 is a fantastic starting point to test your dinosaur-handling skills.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake is undeniably impressive. Despite some frame rate issues, the graphical overhaul is absolutely spectacular and the soundtrack has been brought to life in a truly remarkable way. Yet at the end of the day, this is a remake of a Zelda game from a different time. Plenty of additional gameplay features have been added to make the gameplay experience more palatable by modern standards, but it may not be enough for some players – particularly if you don’t care for the older 2D Zelda games. I will still easily recommend this to anyone that owns a Switch, even if the game can be a little frustrating at times.

While not perfect, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is an incredible remake of two fantastic, staple games of the genre. While it may not be for every type of player, the new enhancements, updates, and quality-of-life improvements make it a must-have for returning fans and modern JRPG enthusiasts.

Turtles In Time Re-Shelled has managed to maintain much of its original title while still evolving to a more modern and accessible state, Not an easy task by any means, and while there are a few great points that were dropped from this port, it has kept just enough to give it a great nostalgic feel.

The Gardens Between is a real treat. Once its gorgeously creative and visually striking aesthetic design lures you in, you’ll be captivated by the inventive, satisfying gameplay. Then it won’t take long for you to begin building a connection with the characters thanks to the expressive, detailed animations and fantastic music score. If you’re looking for a short, relaxing, simplistic puzzle game that is nonetheless wholly satisfying, then The Gardens Between should not be missed.

Episode 2: Brave New World is a fun, albeit slower-paced and darker look into the earlier life of Chloe Price and how she ends up in the mess she is in by the time of the first game. It also sheds some proper light on the force of nature Rachel Amber is and why so many people in Arcadia Bay find themselves directly or indirectly at least admiring her from afar. The many personal problems this episode tackles makes it feel like one of the most grounded parts of the entire series – because there’s no supernatural time travelling hi-jinks to save the day. As a fan of the first game, I have so far very much enjoyed Deck Nine’s prequel, and with the solid character development and hard choices they’ve presented here, they’re heading into the finale strong.

Mr. Run and Jump is a fantastic 2D platformer whose level design makes the most out of the two actions in its title. The challenges the game presents will be most enjoyable to veterans of the genre, but the solid aesthetics, music and assistance options do enough to also entertain newcomers.

The kitchen chaos of Overcooked 2 is a must do experience for any Nintendo Switch owner (and their friends). There are some nice upgrades from the original and the gameplay, varied kitchen design and change from level to level make it a truly fun and engaging experience. The difficulty is ever present, and there are some really rewarding experiences when you finally earn that 3rd star on some of the later levels. This game is best played on the couch with friends and it should be a part of everyones Nintendo Switch owners catalogue.

Kvark is a hidden gem of a classic shooter that you should not miss. It is simple but hard to progress which has given the game a unique taste and separates it from just another clone of Half-Life. However, it won’t be a memorable game that you will talk about for the rest of your life.

In the end, Rain is a beautifully crafted game on the PlayStation 3 which proves that sometimes less is more. It is well narrated and features some sturdy gameplay that I could happily recommend to all gamers who want something a little different. Given that, Rain is also an emotional experience that successfully draws the player into this dream like world of rain.

Shinobi on the 3DS is a strange game that takes a classic game and throws a 21st century twist on it with the inclusion of 3D graphics and some enhanced gaming controls and the like original, a few different mini-games. Even though the game feels different, it is also reminiscent of the original from the way it dishes out the scores which definitely opens up the game for another play.
