Whether you’re a fan or an old hand at Mortal Kombat, the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is unmissable. There is a vigorously faithful and feature rich adherence to preserving the core aspects of the original arcade versions of the Mortal Kombat games, as well as bringing along intriguing PS1 spin-offs and early 00s Gameboy Advance titles. If you’re looking for more modern entries you will be disappointed, but if you appreciate the legacy and the history of the Mortal Kombat franchise, this is an impressive and essential collection that ought to be a precedent for other retro videogame collections developed in the future.

Fun, frustrating and funny in equal measure, Oddworld: New and Tasty will give you 6-8 hours of solid gaming, even more if you’re committed to saving all 299 of your enslaved brethren, and the level design and puzzles hold up quite well to today’s standards.

Even with this failing, there is still a lot going for this game. The game is still a joy to play. The controls are intuitive while the graphics and music combine to form a claustrophobic, lonely atmosphere. In addition, the narrative is intriguing enough to keep you playing. Who would have thought that horticulture would be this much fun? Waking Mars is a game worth playing for its immersive and refreshing gameplay.

In the end New Super Mario Bros U is an extremely fun game on the Wii U which proves classics can still make it in a world of games such as Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty. The visuals look amazing, the gameplay, although quite retro is pure Mario which makes this a must have title for the console.

Spiritfarer is a real treasure. It’s rare to find a game that hits the homerun of being fun to play and gorgeous to look at, while also having a touching narrative to tie it all together. The crafting and exploration gameplay elements are by no means revolutionary, but they are executed superbly to be both compelling and satisfying, whilst complimenting the story structure of the game. If my word and the screenshots alone aren’t enough to convince you this is one of the best looking games around, check out some videos of it in action to see what I mean. Overall, Spiritfarer is an easy recommendation for anyone reading this article; pick it up and allow it to wash over you like an emotional detox for your soul.

If you are a fan of World of Warcraft, or many other popular MMOs, this game would suit you nicely. Its graphics are beautiful, and its scenery is breath taking, allowing for an amazing and fun MMO experience.

If you are after a thinking man's game than Virtue's Last Reward is easily one of the most thought provoking puzzlers of the year. With a strange story that is reminiscent of an adult themed anime movie, this game will make you curse and at times cry with frustration and joy when you've solved some of the challenging puzzles.

Once again Tetsuya Mizuguchi has created an amazing game, just like he did with Rez those so many years ago. Child of Eden however is far superior thanks to the FULL HD graphics, a beautiful soundtrack and almost flawless Kinect controls that work perfectly with the gameplay.

If you only own a Nintendo Switch 2, Indiana Jones And The Great Circle is an absolutely must-have. Is it worth buying a second time if you already own the Xbox Series X or PS5 version? Not really, but if you want it to be an excuse to play the entire adventure again, then nobody should blame you for doing so. The Switch 2 version running at 30 frames per second will deflate some, but when you consider the addition of gyroscope functionality, the trade-off is worth it. Overall, Indiana Jones And The Great Circle on Switch 2 is a great Switch 2 game, even if it might be a harder sell for those who've already played it.

Hitman: The Complete First Season is the perfect re-introduction to the third-person stealth franchise, bringing back sandbox game design and player choice to the forefront with six expertly hand-crafted missions with hundreds of opportunities and ways to approach killing targets, and a ton of side content in the form of Escalation contracts and the Sarajevo Six (effectively “What If?” scenarios and missions).

FIFA 18 does enough to better its predecessor thanks to new player animations and improvements to the gameplay. Although repetitive, the revamped transfer system is intriguing and part two of Alex’s story in The Journey: Hunter Returns makes FIFA 18 the best in the series to date.

This science fiction third person shooter is a fast and furious experience and nothing is more satisfying than taking down all these crazy designed robots. The story is a little lame but fun, however the gameplay more than makes up for this and at the end of the day, when you've finished playing, you will be craving for more Vanquish!

Summary: For fans of Rogue-likes Shiren the Wanderer is a perfect game to play for people who have not played this genre before. I would still suggest giving this game a go. The overall gameplay loop is easy to grasp, but it takes time and patience to Master. Some may be put off by the repetitiveness and overall difficulty level which is understandable but I would implore people to keep going.

Despite my issues with the combat, Ghost of Tsushima isn’t just a great Samurai game, it’s a great period piece the creates a loving and grounded look at Japan as a whole. Set amongst the backdrop of a real world battle, Sucker Punch has created a game that is masterfully crafted, and is a huge leap forward for the studio. It’s got a lot to unpack and dig into for those who like exploration, with plenty of things to upgrade and improve upon. If you’re looking for precise, deliberate combat along the lines of Sekiro, you won’t find it here. However, if you want the biggest Samurai epic that’s ever been created, Ghost of Tsushima is at the top of the class.

The Nintendo Switch is fast becoming the definitive JRPG console of its generation, and Tales of Vesperia stands tall among its best games. The combat is fast paced and fun, there is plenty to see and do and the cast of characters are a joy to be around. If future ports and remasters are as delightful to experience as Tales of Vesperia, there is a lot to look forward to in the future of the Switch.
