Even if it doesn't revolutionize the metroidvania formula, Infernax leaves a wonderful sensation. It doesn't invent nothing new, but the elements it adds (decisions, NPC missions, RPG touches...) makes it a little and joyful surprise among the myriad metroidvanias out there. And it makes full of humor and high replay value.

Hogwarts Legacy has the same structure you've seen in any other modern open world game, but, at the same time, it fills you with memories from long time ago... When a Flipendo was all you needed to push a block. It may no do anything different or relevant than those games, but it has something they lack: magic.

Village improves almost every aspect we enjoyed in RE 7 Biohazard. It is a great horror story set in Eastern Europe, with a perfect balance between combat, puzzles and exploration. But more is not always better, and sometimes it loses focus on the "survival horror" elements.

Diablo IV Vessel of Hatred fails to match the quality of previous expansions in the series due to its change of approach in terms of story and business model. However, it does offer enough to tempt even the biggest Sanctuary fans.

If you like puzzles and games with "original" mechanics, you should try Viewfinder. Its premise is as unique as fun. Too bad it's a bit short and doesn't reach its full potential until almost the end. Maybe the studio in keeping it for sequel? I hope so!

The Nintendo Switch 2 version is simply spectacular, and it demonstrates once again that, in skilled hands, the new hybrid console can deliver games of a quality comparable to consoles like the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, with the added bonus of portability.

A real pleasure for point and click lovers. It's not only superb on its own merits, but also as an homage to the great classics of the genre.

It may not be the flashiest game for a console launch, but Bravely Default remains a JRPG gem, and being able to play it on a modern system with welcome improvements is reason enough to (re)discover the story of the Warriors of Light.

Bigger, better and refined, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are the definitive versions of Sun and Moon. There's some déjà vu feeling with the story, but that doesn't neglect that these games offer tons of content, and that they serve as a great farewell for the series before jumping to the Switch.

Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition is the update of a classic. It wasn't easy, but Forgotten Empires Studio has hit the nail on the head with lots of playable changes and lots of new content. The AI fails sometimes and the new voices won't please anyone, but overall it's a fantastic real-time strategy game.

Ape Out breaks its cage with amusing aesthetics and a wonderful and jazzy soundtrack, both of them procedurally generated. In some way, it plays like Hotline Miami, with its own ideas, and a constant feeling of urgency. A game with an overwhelming personality, that even shows up when our ape dies, in a memorable and stylish death recap screen.

FIFA 18 doesn't show a lot of changes to the core gameplay of the series, but it brings a lot of improvements in its various game modes, as well as a better atmosphere to the stadiums and a new chapter in Alex Hunter's journey that has managed to learn from its past mistakes.

Super Mario RPG is the perfect combination of the role of the classic Final Fantasy and the wealth of originality and sense of humor of the Mario games. As a remake it falls somewhat short, but for us, who were not able to play it in its original version, it is quite a gift.

We already loved the original SMT IV, and this second campaign is even more solid. The true essence of Japanese RPG beats strongly in Apocalypse: its turn-based battles are the best we've ever played, the story is mature and captivating, and the soundtrack is amazing.

Super Meat Boy feels at home on Nintendo Switch. It's the very same 2D platformer that made us sweat on 360, PS4, Vita and Wii U, that has jumped to Switch retaining its tight controls and huge amount of levels and secrets. A modern classic that every lover of the platform genre should play.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for PS4 is the best version of the classic that you will find but the changes from the PS3 last year remaster are not enough to make us buy it again, despite the graphical improvements and the inclusion of the Uematsu original soundtrack.

14 years after its initial release, Lumines Remastered keeps being an unique puzzle in some ways, from its gameplay simplicity to its wonderful sountrack... The remastered has its own flaws, like the absence of new modes or the long loading times (even when retrying a challenge). Beyond that, as a classic, it's still a very enjoyable puzzle.

Fortnite Battle Royale delivers a perfect balance in gunplay, progression and sandbox elements. No wonder it may be 2018's gaming phenomenon. We even like the way microtransactions allow players to enter new challenges and earn cosmetics for the game, but don´t alter the core mechanics.

DOOM: The Dark Ages reimagines the series' approach by offering unique and highly personalized gameplay supported by simple yet engaging additional systems. Ghost of Tsushima is a beautiful game. This samurai open world has a great combat system and it is technically flawless, but its gameplay is too conservative and it often feels too generic.
