Normally, of course, solid wouldn’t be a descriptor you’d apply to the best basketball game of the year. But when the alternative is the hot steaming garbage that is NBA 2K18, solid will more than do. It may be a tainted victory for NBA Live 18, but after years of being second-best, they deserve applause for eking out a win this time around.- Gaming Age

If, for whatever reason, you haven't played Burn The Rope before, then by all means download it to your Vita, because you'll definitely get your $4 worth. But honestly, if you have played it before, then there's no way that on-screen turning, rear touch zooming, and the promise of up to 16 trophies make it worth picking up again.- Gaming Age

It’s a lot deeper and more touching than its title suggests, so it’s worth keeping an eye on it, waiting for a sale, and then grabbing the when the price is right.- Gaming Age

It’s a lot more Smash Bros than Mario Kart. If you plop someone down like me in front of those games, I’ll gravitate to the latter, and feel like the former is just mashing buttons – even if I know there’s depth that I’m just not getting. I feel the same way about Kirby Air Rider: anyone can pick it up and play, but if you really want to get the most out of it, you’ll need to be much more attentive, not to mention willing to play with other people. So if you have a Smash Bros. hole in your life and can’t wait for SSB Ultimate’s official successor, you should definitely give Kirby Air Riders. You may just love what you discover.- Gaming Age

A Boy and His Blob looks like a gently welcoming adventure, and when it's not precisely and nothing more than that, it's easy to get annoyed. While some people may have no problem reconciling the look with the gameplay, for me, unfortunately, the disconnect is just too much for me to overcome.- Gaming Age

So would I suggest checking out Punch Club if you find the idea of a fighting simulator intriguing? Sure, provided you can acclimate to the more tedious aspects of managing stat bars and schedules, which might not require a great deal of concentration but still involve a certain level of babysitting that I haven’t found appealing so far.- Gaming Age

Nippon Ichi really delivers again with old school graphics combined with 3D effects, and a great storyline with some great adult jokes. If you are a fan of tactical games and RPGs definitely pick this one up.- Gaming Age

Storm isn't a game that is going to knock your socks off, but what it does do is provide a nice puzzle game for the fans who like their brand of puzzles a little more laid back and thought-oriented versus time and speed oriented. If you enjoyed games like Braid, there is plenty to love about Storm as it is original, thought provoking, and most of all fun.- Gaming Age

Offering engrossing beat 'em up action on the go, Rockstar's The Warriors ranks both among the genre's and the platform’s best.- Gaming Age

The A.I., yet again, is guaranteed to cause a few controllers to be flung. While taking part in a group race or any kind, the CPU racers are entirely too dumb. They are wholly dedicated to driving their line no matter what it takes, and will take out a whole pack of racers due to some stupid decisions.- Gaming Age

It’s one of those games that looked back and took notes from history’s best, simplified that, and sped up the pacing just a bit to keep players interested each time they turn it on.- Gaming Age

Really, though, the game's looks are secondary to its chief purpose — which, essentially, is to kill you repeatedly and then dare you to keep trying. I won't say that the game didn't defeat me, because it very clearly and obviously did, but I can guarantee that if you're looking for one of those absurdly hard games to fill your time until Dark Souls 2 comes out next year, this might be a good option.- Gaming Age

Mutant Football League really impressed me if you couldn’t tell. You know if you’ve read some of my previous reviews that I’m a big football fan, so I’m sure that plays a big role in this. I do think non-fans would have fun as well, just as arcade goers did in the late 90’s with NFL Blitz. Maybe it’s been too long since we have had anything other than Madden to please football fans, or maybe MFL is really just that good, either way I really like it and find myself going back to it over and over despite its vanilla modes at this point. Mutant Football League has character that I haven’t seen in a parody game in many years and look forward to what Digital Dreams has to come for the franchise.- Gaming Age

I’ll add that The Heir of Glen Kinnoch looks very nice. Again, we’re only talking about static screens, but given how ugly some hidden object games can be, it’s nice to find one that actually puts some effort into how it looks. To be sure, none of this makes Faircroft’s Antiques: The Heir of Glen Kinnoch an essential buy, nor does it mean you need to load up on the other games in the series, Faircroft’s Antiques: Treasures of Treffenburg and Faircroft’s Antiques: Home for Christmas — though both of them have the same mixture of nice visuals and interesting (by the genre’s standards) puzzles. But if, like me, you have a soft spot for a pretty innocuous genre, then this game should be right up your alley.- Gaming Age

I realize this review can basically be boiled down to “I liked Darksiders III, and here’s several paragraphs on why it wasn’t that good” — and even I see the contradiction. But honestly, the game is so shallow that that’s really what you need to know about it. Darksiders III is fun in small bursts, but also very shallow, and the more of it you play, the shallower it feels.- Gaming Age

It definitely feels like it works, but I'll freely admit that I wish the game had some type of optional controller support like Child of Eden. Still, as a Kinect only experience, it's worth checking out for owners of the hardware that are probably finding little reason to keep it plugged in at the moment, and I think you'll definitely get some enjoyment out of it.- Gaming Age

Mutant Football League is a nice alternative for those that are put off by the Madden juggernaut. Dynasty Edition adds some minor features, but it’s an affordable package which can easily appeal to fair-weather as well as lapsed football game fans. Digital Dreams delivered on their crowdfunding campaign and then some. Now who do I have to speak with to get a Mutant Hockey League?- Gaming Age

Which, I guess, is the best way to describe Superbeat Xonic as a whole: it's nice enough to look at, and it does what it does with an expected degree of competence, but you wouldn't mistake it for the best the genre has to offer.- Gaming Age

It works best if you know the genre, since it's a cool piece of history and it's neat to see how they've evolved over the last few decades, but if you don't have that, Day of the Tentacle Remastered is probably going to be a little too niche for your tastes.- Gaming Age

Sometimes, all you want is a game that provides a quick blast of action, and Clawpunk delivers that in spades. If you just want to cause mayhem and blast away enemies for a few hours, there are worse ways to pass the time than with this game.- Gaming Age

I mean, Heroes of Loot 2 is fine. It moves along at a nice pace, it adds in a bit of nice strategic elements, and it’s got a fun retro vibe. But there aren’t really any hidden depths (not counting all the hidden dungeon rooms) here, so it feels like once you’ve played it a few times, the game doesn’t have all that much more to offer. It’s okay if that’s all you’re after, but it’s all very much a case of what you see is exactly what you get.- Gaming Age

A fun take on the series, especially if you can overlook some of the poor judgment in the control of the game. With how good the game looks, and all of the different types of espers that can be recruited, players can get really creative with their armies.- Gaming Age

Whatever momentary feelings of frustration I had while playing Mixups were more than outnumbered by how much fun I had overall. Even without the other five games Word Puzzles had, it’s still a worthwhile purchase if you’re the sort who plays word games — and I am, which means (like most of Lightwood Games’ other offerings) I can’t get enough of it.- Gaming Age
