If you’re looking for another throwaway bubble burster, then Petal Crash definitely isn’t for you. If you’re after a meaty puzzling experience that’s crafted with care and love, then it’s well worth checking out.

Wordament is so well-built that pointing out faults feels like nitpicking. You do need to be online to play, and more annoyingly, you're sometimes thrust into a match with a minute left on the clock, which pretty much dooms you to a low score. A lobby option would be a nice addition, but as it stands, Wordament is one of the App Store's must-have word games.

Even if you're not the biggest fan of arcade-style fighting games, I would still recommend giving Blade Lords a try, as the lighthearted martial arts adventure is incredibly easy to get into, and has enough depth to it to keep all you sword-wielding wanderers coming back for more!

There already appear to be a number of Marvel Contest of Champions players who are giving the new game a shot, and it’s obviously going to attract Transformers fans as well. But you really don’t need to be in either of those groups to appreciate Forged to Fight, because it’s just a top notch mobile fighting game, one that should be hosting brawling bots for some time to come.

The best part about The Best Park in the Universe is that it feels like a video game that Mordecai and Rigby would actually play themselves in the cartoon show, while slacking off during the work day and trying to avoid Benson’s constant list of chores to do around the park.

Together with the graphics and ease of gameplay, the soundtrack helps make The Big Journey one of the most accessible games on the market, something that can be enjoyed and adored by players of all ages and skill levels.

Steamworld Heist is great. From the world to the characters to the style to the gameplay, it’s a lot of fun and pretty much a no-brainer if you like turn-based tactics. Or robots. Or Firefly. Really, the only reason I’d suggest giving it a pass is if you already own it for another platform.

If you’ve never played Retro City Rampage (DX or otherwise), this is as good a place as any to start. Heck, if you already have it on a computer or console it’s not a bad get either, since you’ll be able to enjoy all the goofy anarchy on the go.

If you’re nostalgic for the classic fast-paced restaurant/cafe management games, you’re bound to love Pixel Cafe. It offers hours of fun and is one of those rare games that reminds you of fond old favourites from back in the day. With a low price tag, it’s worth checking out.

Blendoku combines perfectly executed aspects of nearly every feature one could want in a puzzle game: a concept that’s easy to grasp but difficult to master, stages that are as varied as they are numerous, rewards for success and minimal punishment for failure, and updates to keep new content flowing. Its four-word concept is simple, and it’s also simply great.

With the lack of customization aside, Beast Quest is a really solid adventure game that should be investigated by any gamer with a thirst for adventure and some time to kill.

That simplicity is what keeps you coming back again and again (and again). It’s clear that Burrito Bison: Launcha Libre isn’t going to be a lifelong love. These kind of games rarely are. But it is the kind of addiction that is fast, hard, and fleeting.

Overall Spirittea is imbued with so much charm, and it’s all wove together to create a fascinating and whimsical experience. Plus, with a character as sassy and hilarious as Wonyan to guide me, all the tasks he bestows are always delivered alongside amusing dialogue. I’m a dog person at heart, but Wonyan is my honourary cat.

I won't claim that the control scheme here – good though it may be – is on par with using a physical controller, but it's still very solid. Your fingers will inevitably cramp during long play sessions, but all in all Lunar Silver Star Story Touch is an impressive facsimile of the console classic.

Aqua Moto Racing 2 is an arcade racer through and through, with a soundtrack that could have come from OutRun. It doesn’t have a lot of variety, and the lack of multiplayer may be a sore point for some, but what it does do is frantic drifty racing in glamourous locations. If that sounds like your sort of thing, you won’t be disappointed.

If you like JRPGs, combat with depth, and love getting to know characters more, CRYMACHINA is the game for you. Not a lot of games as of late feature such a distinctive art style, and it inspired me to pick up my own digital art projects again for a while – and that’s saying something!

So beguiling, so entrancing that the intrusion of something as mundane as money, blundering in to break the glamour, seems almost perverse -- But it does. A shame that the result is pockmarks on the face of perfection.

McPixel does perhaps the most audacious thing of all: embrace the idea that joy in gaming comes in equal measure from knowing what you're doing and having absolutely no clue. Betting big on the concept that games aren't simple tests of what you can already do, but tests to see how much you're willing to learn. And hey. It doesn't hurt that Sosowski packs every scene with video-game related in jokes, pop culture references, and intertextual nods to earlier characters, improbably crafting a world one twenty second scene at a time.

With an engrossing variety to the level objectives and the things you can do on a simple match-three grid, to the gorgeous and smooth presentation, it’s clear that to make a great game in today’s technological age, sometimes all you need to do is take things back to their prehistoric roots.
