Assassin's Creed 3 will be the best game of the year for many gamers. It's not the prettiest game, it doesn't tell the best story and doesn't have the most brilliant gameplay. But it portrays a world we can lose ourselves in like no other, which is filled to the brim with interesting characters and content, and it hardly ever bores.- Gamer.nl

A Link Between Worlds is one of the, if not the best Zelda game yet. It takes the player seriously and leaves the innocent charm of the adventure intact at the same time. The game never lets the story get in the war of the adventure, and has a lot to discover for loyal fans. The 'rent an item'-system balances freedom and challenge perfectly.- Gamer.nl

It is original, comprehensive and fun: Astro Bot Rescuie Mission is such a natural game, you tend to forget you are wearing VR goggles. It's a modern classic.- Gamer.nl

This is the best looking, most comprehensive Mario Kart game ever. This is an essential for Switch, though Wii U-owners who have played the game and its dlc for years might be a little bit less interested.- Gamer.nl

Super Mario Odyssey is an amazing experience for Mario fans, but even gamers that are not familiar with Nintendo's mascot will definitely enjoy this game. There is so much content to discover and all the greatest elements from 30 years of Mario come together in this excellent title.- Gamer.nl

Elden Ring borrows a lot from Dark Souls and a bit from Bloodborne and Sekiro. With the blueprints of those games in their hands, FromSoftware started building and building. The result is a hugely good open world game that leaves an unforgettable impression in both scale and detail, but also scares.- Gamer.nl

Human Revolution might not be as revolutionary as the original was back when it came out, but the main elements of this series is still as exciting and downright unique as it was ten years ago. This is how a game that wants to tell a story should be: interactive and focussed. On top of that, Human Revolution takes place in one of the best virtual worlds ever. Some technical hiccups don't get in the way of this impressive experience.- Gamer.nl

Tunic is a mystical gem full of elusive secrets that only reveal themselves if you take the time to do so. The basic experience of fighting in Zelda-esque dungeons is already very good, but whoever sticks a toe in the mysterious water is soon up to his neck in puzzles.- Gamer.nl

Journey is the best co-op game, most subtle storytelling and the most beautiful virtual piece of art we have seen these last ten years. The PlayStation 4 compliments that. Even though the visual optimization is small, this is a diamond that does not need a lot of cleaning.- Gamer.nl

It's not often that a game of this caliber lives up to all expectations. Horizon Zero Dawn starts slowly, but transforms in a huge action adventure. We haven't been obsessed with a virtual world to this degree since The Witcher 3. Horizon impresses in every facet imaginable.- Gamer.nl

Death Stranding Director's Cut is full of big and small adjustments. Some changes make the game a little more accessible, while others, such as the racetrack, increase the already stark contrast between the more playful and more serious side of the game.- Gamer.nl

You'll curse Spelunky, you'll want to throw your controller through the TV out of anger, but there is something about it that will pull you back in, time and time again. The game challenges you to constantly make choices and set new priorities, the level design is fantastic and makes for a new experience every time, but most of all: skill and perseverance get rewarded. Spelunky might seem a little bit unfair at times, but with every death it teaches you a lesson. Lose yourself in the wondrous, underground world and emerge as a better player.- Gamer.nl

With The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog switches from the easy entertainment that is Uncharted, to the more serious stuff. Despite their differences, both games prove to be of unprecedented high levels of quality, from a studio that controls their ability to create games into the smallest detail. Thanks to its unique pace and adult story The Last of Us has become an experience that has no equal.- Gamer.nl

Torchlight 2 is a giant leap forward when comparing it to its predecessor. Huge improvements have been made to every aspect of it, but it doesn't innovate within the genre. Still, Torchlight 2 manages to present itself as the best loot game of the year, especially considering its price tag.- Gamer.nl

Monster Hunter World is much more accessible than the other Monster Hunter Games. Systems are significantly easier to understand and unnecessary parts have been removed, without making the game feel simple. What is left is a constant thrill.- Gamer.nl

Dragon Age: Inquisition makes up for the way too short Dragon Age 2. The gameworld is huge and tremendously diverse. The franchise seems to go a bit less dark and intense, but it introduces a new blockbuster RPG standard that many developers will struggle to meet.- Gamer.nl

Being able to finally play God of War on PC is mighty, but select choices make it seem like Kratos is begrudgingly lent. Technically speaking, the port is quite successful, but it won't do anything more than what is strictly necessary. Today's PCs can do so much more - think of a generous photo mode or broader control options - but apart from a few visual adjustments, a lot of potential for an exemplary port is eluded.- Gamer.nl
