Although the game boils down to a walking sim with a puzzle component, the unique setting and mechanics make it worth a playthrough.

If Loot Interactive and the developers at Night Light took away the hand-holding with puzzle solving and given us a speedier way to get around, Whispering Willows would've fared a lot better. As it stands, however, it's still a decent title for fans of the genre, mainly due to its effective presentation and unique abilities. It's not recommended to everyone, but if you're up for a ghost story, dig in.

Had the team at Gateway implemented better controls, more diversity in level design and other features, Spectra could've easily been on its way to becoming a cult classic for this generation. As it stands, it's not bad for a $5 purchase, but more could've been done with it.

Some may wonder why it's so high-priced, or why certain aspects of the game weren't as polished as the rest of it. But God of War III Remastered shows that Sony Santa Monica is more than ready for PS4 development, and that means we're in for something cool whenever Kratos decides to cover new territory. In the meantime, give his god-pummeling journey a revisit.

J-Stars Victory Vs. + mostly gets the job done when it comes to delivering a manic anime-based brawler for fans that have been waiting for the next Jump Superstars. But more could've easily been done with it, especially with the presentation and the fighting system.

If you're a fan of Jackbox's stuff, Quiplash is an easy purchase, a game that will hook you with its multiple puzzles and hilarious answers. Better connectivity and a single player component would've made it the stuff of legend, but being a consistent party favorite is a good second place spot.

While BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend could've used more new content (and more balance in the way it tells a story), it’s still a worthwhile brawler for PS4 and Xbox One. That goes double for fans that want to get the full gist of what BlazBlue's universe has to offer – this is as expansive as fan service as the series gets. At least, for now.

Aside from a few sputters during the animation when entering the Batmobile and the FPS cap at 30, I didn’t experience any of the problems many PC players were experiencing with the game. If any dark, rainy, dirty and downtrodden city could be beautiful, it’s Gotham in Arkham Knight.

Mortal Kombat X is a feature-packed experience that sets the bar high for content in fighters this gen. While it doesn't eclipse the previous Mortal Kombat's amount of content, it does surpass all of its other competitors.

More work could've been done to make Payday 2: Crimewave Edition the ultimate value for fans of the series – especially when it came to making the AI perform up to snuff. Still, the abundant amount of content, combined with strong multiplayer options, make it a heist worth trying with the right squad of goons.

Had Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition addressed the real problems from the original game, while also keeping some of the high-profile additions, it could've really been something. Instead, it feels like a repackaging that doesn't quite have its heart in the right place.

While it may be geared more towards hyper-competitive players with extra cash to burn, there’s still a lot to enjoy in EarthCore for even casual CCG fans. You may have to put up with some turbulence as you learn the ropes but the game’s seemingly simple yet addictingly fun premise is well worth the effort.

If you’re really, truly desperate for a new adventure-horror game in the vein of Dear Esther and you consider yourself to literally have the patience of a saint, at the very least Kholat will look and sound pretty as you play it. Anyone who doesn’t want to deal with tedious gameplay, a confusing story, or frustrating progress roadblocks however should steer clear.

Had Vector Unit included better characterization and adjusted the difficulty to the point it wasn't trying to pummel you each race (there's competitive and then there's "don't mind me, I'm cheating"), Beach Buggy Racers would've been a solid debut for kart-racing action on newer systems. As it stands, it's not bad, as its multiplayer has something to offer, and the track design clicks. Just be prepared to fight for your first place victory – this ain't no leisure cruise around the island.

While Mega Coin Squad could've gone the extra mile with more single player oomph and online play, what's here is more than serviceable for those looking for a great time with some friends – or collecting coins on their own. The gameplay is original and a lot of fun, and the presentation is right up the alley of Genesis/SNES owners, right down to the cute animations.

Despite some strong world design and a compelling soundtrack, Toren just can't keep up with the other great platformers on the market, even from the previous generation. The Witcher 3 is a huge game sure to satisfy fans of the genre and the series, and does a great job of welcoming new players by just being damn fun to play. While the combat falls short of Shadow of Mordor and games like Skyrim and Dragon Age: Inquisition both do many individual things better than this title, The Witcher 3 undoubtedly deserves a place beside the great action RPGs of the modern era.
