An emotionally impactful tale that's enhanced by the game's commitment to its thematic core of memory, but one that can get frustrating due to its rather tricky puzzles. [Issue#258, p.71]

A beautifully judged, moving tale with puzzles cleverly entrenched in the story's take on mental illness. [July 2015, p.93]

Although I enjoyed Ether One, the game is based entirely on exploration, and unraveling the story is key to its appreciation. Players who don't have the patience for this sort of slow-burn adventure might find that things are fairly incomprehensible if they don't take the time to do some of the non-essential puzzles. However, those who find the idea of a casual stroll through someone's mind would do well to check this one out.

From a narrative standpoint, we loved this game, but its technical problems kinda ruin the experience. Truly a pity, considering its brilliant and versatile gameplay that can adapt to many types of players.

With an attention-grabbing story premise, clever puzzles, and gorgeous music, this game seeks to tackle mental illness in a profound way. While cracks show in the sound effects, technical issues, and convoluted aspects to the narrative and puzzle solving, there's a charm and respect that you cannot help but feel for the game, which will be sure to remain in the canals of your memory banks for some time.

Ether One presents a spellbinding take on memory loss and what really goes on inside a person's head, but tedious voice acting, the pacing of certain puzzles, and the lack of guidance when some players need it the most may leave some folks just as confused as the poor woman who's going through all its torment.

Give it a download if you like exploration and puzzles but maybe wait until there’s an update before you give it a shot.

No, it isn't super-fast paced with constant action. Is it that hard to appreciate the game for what it is and where it came from? For what it is (part of that being that it is free right now), it is an experience unlike most that are being released right now. Expand

Almost being the key word here, it was almost one of my favourite games however the frame rate issues that seemed to appear at some stages in the game caused some headaches for me and required me to stop playing, this i could look past but what i couldn't look past was when i returned to finally finish the game i was welcomed with a crash, not once, but every time i try to continue my game and yes, i could go back to an earlier save but the one that works is at the start of the game.
I really wish this game worked because from what i have played i have really enjoyed but until the game breaking crash is fixed i will not return to finish of the story (and the headaches).

More than half-wayIt's really atmospheric and interesting with a good mystery, but there are too many game-breaking things that can happen. More than half-way through the game, after loading a save after a patch, I encountered a glitch that made me unable to progress further - the elevator that was working before didn't work now. I stopped playing for a few months, picked it back up and loaded an earlier save so I could re-do the elevator puzzle. I did... then after an hour or two another glitch happened which made me unable to progress further. I was in a trophy hunter mode so I just decided, since it was so many months ago and the game is rather short, to replay it from the beginning and speed through the beginning.

Not everyone encounters the bugs but you're most likely damned if they do.

There is no action and no attacking, but it builds itself on a mystery, good voice-acting, puzzle-solving and interesting story. If you can appreciate that, you will probably appreciate this game. If it weren't for the bugs and glitches I would give this a solid 8.

ETHER One gave me a really hard time. It's a rather slow puzzling game in 3D whose strong point is supposed to be the story. However, theETHER One gave me a really hard time. It's a rather slow puzzling game in 3D whose strong point is supposed to be the story. However, the story didn't cut it for me either, lacking heavily in elements motivating players to go forward. This games requires a lot of effort and good-will before rewarding the player eventually. The sub-par presentation and crude controls don't help either. Expand

The woman's voice is DADGUM fine. If i was basing this review solely based on how attracted I am to the narrator, it be an easy 10. But, alas,The woman's voice is DADGUM fine. If i was basing this review solely based on how attracted I am to the narrator, it be an easy 10. But, alas, the game itself was much like my favorite scene from The Notebook- the ending. Lol I'm just kidding, every scene in The Notebook is cinematic perfection. They should remake it starring me and the narrator gal from Ether One.
Ether one is the kid that got picked last in kickball. It's slow, weird, and keeps getting out of gym class because he's got a note from his mom. To be honest, I was that kid, BUT LOOK AT ME NOW. Once Metacritic starts paying me for these reviews, I'm gonna be set for life. Anyways, overlooking my sexual attraction to the narrator, there is really no reason to play Ether one. If you told me you enjoyed playing it, I would stop hanging out with you. Unless you're a hot chick, because in that case I would play this game all the dadgum time and I would enjoy it too.
In summation, avoid like that dude in your Crossfit class that keeps winking at you.

    Takes forever to load.
Freezes when I try to fast travel.
Lantern doesn't work at all, I hit every button on my DS4.

Pretty much when the game freezes or crashes 90% chance you have to start A BRAND NEW GAME and pray to your god that the game doesn't crash again. I think I had to restart it 20 times.

White Paper Games I pray you go out of business as soon as possible!
