Almost being the key word here, it was almost one of my favourite games however the frame rate issues that seemed to appear at some stages in the game caused some headaches for me and required me to stop playing, this i could look past but what i couldn't look past was when i returned to finally finish the game i was welcomed with a crash, not once, but every time i try to continue my game and yes, i could go back to an earlier save but the one that works is at the start of the game.
I really wish this game worked because from what i have played i have really enjoyed but until the game breaking crash is fixed i will not return to finish of the story (and the headaches).

This is an indie game, and it shows. Limited resources mean the graphics look dated at best. Although a woman talks to you through telepathy or something, there's no other characters visible in the game. It feels a little like Dear Esther, but one where you can jump, pick up objects and solve puzzles.

The puzzles are mostly obvious, due to there being no other thing to try sometimes,

The puzzles are mostly obvious, due to there being no other thing to try sometimes, but one or two are hard / annoying, so you may have to resort to the internet. The good thing is that the puzzles test the player, but in a such a way that it doesn't slow the pace down too much. The story is quite touching, if you like that sort of thing. Ether One is suitable for players of all skill levels, though aimed at a more mature audience, I'd say. It has a novel approach to inventory management, which is nice to see.

I recommend this game to the more thoughtful player.

Free on PS+ and probably not a title I'd pay for.

So far, it feels dated. Like a FPS from a decade ago, nothing so far has inspired me and its slow pace has made it a mission to open back up and start playing. That said, the story is so far well written and intriguing and the world one I think may have a pay off in exploring. It's not the sort of game you can play with anyone

Ether One is a first person puzzle game. There are no NPCs, no monsters to shoot, it's just you and tons of puzzles to solve.
Controls are simple and cannot be remapped, but they work perfectly fine so disregard any complaints in the reviews below.

The environments are detailed and have this haunting atmosphere right out of a horror movie.
Music only plays occasionally, but it gets the job done and sets the mood nicely.
The story (regarding treatment of a dementia patient) is intriguing, but sadly I wasn't able to finish the game because of a bug. Ether One has plenty of those.
If you're thinking of buying this game, wait for a few weeks till it's fixed. Right now, the game randomly freezes and crashes, the loading times last up to several minutes which is annoying, the travel map doesn't work, shelves on which you can place items you've collected are broken making it impossible to obtain one of the trophies, and the major game-breaking bug I've came across today locks out the last Core Memory section rendering the game impossible to finish. These are just the bugs I've encountered myself, mind you. There are many, many more, depending on how unfortunate you are.
I've spent the last two days playing EO and I've had so much fun, but this just leaves me disappointed. Was the game fully tested and functional, my score would've been higher. However, as it is now, I can't give it more than 6/10.

This is Myst for dumb people. Every puzzle is look around for something that makes it obvious to go forward. I didn't even understand what was going on in the plot which might have made want to keep going. Memories of dead people or something?? Nope.

Kind of what you would expect from the Metacritic score. It isn't bad since it can tell an interesting story sometimes. BUT this is often overshadowed by the slow gameplay and contrived "inventory" system.

It's really atmospheric and interesting with a good mystery, but there are too many game-breaking things that can happen. More than half-way through the game, after loading a save after a patch, I encountered a glitch that made me unable to progress further - the elevator that was working before didn't work now. I stopped playing for a few months, picked it back up and loaded an earlier save so I could re-do the elevator puzzle. I did... then after an hour or two another glitch happened which made me unable to progress further. I was in a trophy hunter mode so I just decided, since it was so many months ago and the game is rather short, to replay it from the beginning and speed through the beginning.

Not everyone encounters the bugs but you're most likely damned if they do.

There is no action and no attacking, but it builds itself on a mystery, good voice-acting, puzzle-solving and interesting story. If you can appreciate that, you will probably appreciate this game. If it weren't for the bugs and glitches I would give this a solid 8.

Although I enjoyed Ether One, the game is based entirely on exploration, and unraveling the story is key to its appreciation. Players who don't have the patience for this sort of slow-burn adventure might find that things are fairly incomprehensible if they don't take the time to do some of the non-essential puzzles. However, those who find the idea of a casual stroll through someone's mind would do well to check this one out.

From a narrative standpoint, we loved this game, but its technical problems kinda ruin the experience. Truly a pity, considering its brilliant and versatile gameplay that can adapt to many types of players.

A beautifully judged, moving tale with puzzles cleverly entrenched in the story's take on mental illness. [July 2015, p.93]
