Silent Hill 2 Remake is a sensational comeback for the franchise and Bloober Team’’s best game to date. Far from being just an opportunistic game, it is both a love letter to the saga and a successful retelling of the original one. Faithful and very different, this new game modernizes psychological horror without ever abandoning its old-school roots. Silent Hill 2 Remake is deeply scary and stressful. Besides being very good remake it is simply an excellent survival horror that honors the license and gives us great hope for the future.

Hunt: Showdown is fantastic. The pleasure is immediate and very long-lasting as long as its difficulty does not upset you. It's a visceral and immersive experience that you should absolutely not miss if you are a fan of cooperative games. After 202 hours spent on it, starting from the first days of its Early Access, the situation is clear : Hunt: Showdown is an amazing FPS and it won't be forgotten.

Knights of the Round Cable is probably one of the best mobile games currently ; a simple yet completely addictive gameplay revolving around basic physics mechanics, and a perfectly well crafted touch control combined for a single purpose : getting the most gems out of a level by revolving around attach points with your little knight and his cable. Complete with in-app purchase for lazy gamers, it's one of those "Zone-Enabling" titles.

Bigger and stronger than the first episode, Dishonored 2 shines in action, stealth and exploration. It gives the players the right tools to face its challenges and a lot of reasons to come back even after the first run, starting with its unique universe and memorable art style.

Still enjoyable without PlayStation VR, Rez Infinite becomes one of the most engaging experiences playable with the PS4 virtual headset. For his main and well-known campaign and its new and so enjoyable Area X mode that, we hope, is a glimpse for a possible Rez 2.

The exotic holidays of Luigi's Mansion 3 look like a phantasmagorical comedy, each floor from this hotel presenting a play of its own which revisits the classic horror movies themes, thanks to Next Level Games' fantastic imagination through mischievous stagecraft, wonderful riddles and stunning ectoplasmic battles. Beyond the already reinforced ghost hunter gear, such elements are combined marvelously, if not even better in duo, since the slimy characteristics of Gooigi both fluidify and enrich the whole experience. A team spirit encouraged by the terrific multi player modes, in particular the more stupendously trapped ScareScraper, bound to haunt the long hallowed eves slamming with friends endlessly.

Despite the technical downgrade compared with the other versions, Observer is still an extraordinary game with a magnificent cyberpunk atmosphere and some visual effects that would certainly please David Lynch.

The solo may not be revolutionary, but it remains solid; the production values are spotless, Battle.net was revised for added comfort, and it supports a multiplayer that could very well be described as a dangerous time-consuming wormhole you won't be able to escape. There's no denying it: StarCraft 2 remains the mother of all STR games.

Sea of Thieves is highly recommendable in 2024. Beautiful to tears, gripping and incredibly immersive, it's a real bubble of fresh air to do with a group of friends who are also fans of piracy. Accessible, but deep, complete and full of things to discover, the game does not offer any redundant mechanics and never forces us to grind unlike many service games. So much so that it’s even quite destabilizing at first. But once you have crossed this threshold, once you agree to play just... to play and have fun, and not to perform and win, the pleasure is increased tenfold. A must have to discover with your friends. On the other hand, for solo players, Sea of Thieves will not really be recommended. Not only do we lose a dimension of camaraderie on which the game relies heavily, but as a bonus it will be difficult to get by, unless you opt for peaceful mode without any players to face. But here again, we completely lose what makes all the sea salt of the game and that would be a real shame.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition is probably one of the best old-school RPGs you can find on console, a true masterpiece. The PC's version was almost perfect, this one follows the same path. Definitive Edition adds a new tutorial, new game mode (Story Mode) and a rework of Act III for the main campaign and it's great.

Rayman Legends didn't age at all. It's still one of the most well-crafted and most gorgeous platformers you can play today, alone or with friends. But with only a few additions that don't change anything compared to the other versions, we can say we don't really understand how it feels "Definitive".

The stakes were high after It Takes Two. How to get past GOTY 2021? Hazelight found the answer with Split Fiction. A true gameplay success, it's never a pleasure to hold the controller in your hand. Josef Fares' teams have not lost any of their inventiveness, either, and manage to offer us a gameplay experience we never tire of. Most of the storyline could have done with a bit more surprise, but it's a solid one that works from start to finish. What more could you ask for? It's another nugget from a studio that puts the pleasure of playing above all else.

The surprise is there: even though we'd have thought that Far Cry 3 would have been a "crazy open world shooter". It is, but it goes far beyond that in its depiction of its main character: the island. It's generous, enticing, well-designed and well-crafted - the only less-interesting part being the multiplayer, even though there are some very nice ideas there as well.

The fresh thrill of discovering an uninhabited atoll tends to fade once such wild life gets cosier with crafted items, buildings, shops and incoming residents, until it looks like a village from the previous iterations. But the larger size of this wholly reshapable island, the customization's vertiginous level and the improved community interactions create an even more fertile ecosystem, hence Animal Crossing can slowly though decidedly stare further, towards New Horizons, equipped with an ever updating NookPhone.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is one of, if not the, most touching games in the long running series. It offers a fitting end to Kazuma Kiryu's story and gives the series a change of pace (Onomichi and its people are great). It's just too bad that SEGA didn't go the remaster route (on Xbox Series X|S) as the game feels a bit weird running at 30 fps in 2021.

Cuphead is a brilliant homage to the run and gun genre as much as it is to the 30's cartoons. This retro experience is a though challenge that will reveal its true potential only to those brave enough to endure thousands of deaths by the minute. Cuphead is not accessible to everyone, and it is fine like this. Beautiful and diversified as any other, Cuphead is such a rewarding game; it reminds us the true taste of victory.

A truly impressive graphical leap that which brings new perspectives and brings some new features. The Tartarus still feels outdated and could have benefited from some tweaks. But Persona 3 Reload is still a memorable game and one of the best of the beginning of the year.

Assassin's Creed III might not be as revolutionary in itself as the historical period it covers, and it still has some shortcomings that may annoy old timers of the series and newcomers alike, but its generosity, the unbelievably high quality of its writing, particularly the character of Connor, the political and societal questions it weaves into its Templar / Assassins storyline, and the overall generosity of its content more than make up for it. It may feel constricted inside our current hardware, but manages nonetheless to push back its limits, combining the proven formula with new gorgeous elements both in the solo and multiplayer aspects.

The PS4 version is very close to the PC version even if it a bit less impressive visually. There are a few graphic bugs on the water surfaces, nothing really bad. Whether it's for matchmaking or framerate, the experience is complete. Clearly the best co-op FPS of 2019.

And I feel like that’s the point of Main Assembly: if you think it’s possible, it probably is. Through experimentation and iteration (and a little patience), you can solve any problem the game throws at you. Much like its Early Access release, Main Assembly will learn from its mistakes and probably capture the hearts and minds of a fair few players along the way.
