What began as a simple tale of a dog and the flower he loves has become a farcical, overblown imitation of a cheesy action movie with little challenge or replay value. As unfortunate as it is for gamers to be let down so early in the new year, it must be said that PaRappa 2 is the first disappointment of 2002.

True followers of the ATP will love the in-depth simulation of the pro tennis world, and any gamer who appreciates a well-designed, good-looking sports title will not be disappointed, either.

Crippled by a lack of online play and a horrible camera system. Yet despite the problems, the core game is so good that it's still worth playing, as long as you have human opponents to compete against.

It may not be a revolutionary new type of horror or even the beginning of a great new series, but for what it is Haunting Ground is generally worth trying.

Civ City: Rome doesn’t do much to meaningfully innovate, but it does successfully take the more important design elements of past games and incorporates them into a challenging, great looking, and great playing package.

Overall Kane & Lynch is an interesting -- if overly violent -- take on the “buddy” game. The tag-team setup adds something to what would already be a solid action game and makes it that much better.

Poor touch controls and a lack of dedicated online multiplayer drag down an otherwise serviceable portable Dynasty Warriors game. Fans of the series will find things to like in Next, but the offering is mediocre at best.

Even though fans of the series will have seen most of this before, Battle Network 5 is a very strong game in a technical sense.

The game is so cookie-cutter and average that it becomes an empty vessel.

Why the presentation is so flat is a mystery worthy of Veronica Mars, since there are only two athletes on-screen at once (four during doubles matches).

It’s just not a terribly compelling game in any way.

Worst of all, it's difficult in a way that feels like the game is cheating you through broken mechanics somehow, and that isn't fun for anyone.

While it may sound fun, the play control and physics in the game are rather loose, resulting in unresponsive vehicle controls and collision detection that has you occasionally hitting objects you aren't even touching as you drive.

It's a capably constructed RPG, to be sure, but it's hard to explicitly recommend Mega Man X: Command Mission to anyone who isn't already a fan of Mega Man or RPGs. If you're a little bit of both, chances are you'll dig it immensely.

Survival horror veterans will be drawn to Extermination right up to the very end, but casual gamers might find this title hard to swallow because of its inconsistent presentation, low replay value and mediocre story.

Cars skid for no reason. Frames slow down just as the action heats up. Full Auto 2: Battlelines spins its wheels keeping the same controls and not improving the over all experience.

Disney’s Meet the Robinsons, with its solid look and feel, succeeds in being lot better than 95% of the film-based games you’re liable to play. However, it still doesn’t stand up to the better action/platformers out there, primarily due to objectives and levels that too often drag on to tedium.

It's like one of those pricey meals that foodies order at swank restaurants. Three bites and the plate is clean. It's a good thing that Cooking Mama has an early bird special price tag, because right about now we're ready for the desert menu.

Dark Summit is rated H for half-baked...Though pretty, [it] manages to be both repetitive and too short.

The biggest problem is that despite the large number of tracks, the racing starts to feel the same after a while. The races are exercises in cutting off your opponents, grabbing the turbo power-ups at the right time, and learning to take curves properly.

An amazing trick system only bolsters the game's personality. You can literally land three or four maneuvers before touching down, given enough momentum.

Unfortunately, what aim-assist there is in Turok is woefully inadequate. Getting the reticule to move that last quarter inch often proved impossible and aggravating.

Dull, and not just because of its subject matter or slow pace. Obviously, fishing can only be so exciting, but the repetitive nature of the gameplay, the lack of rewards, and the high frustration level make for a tiresome experience.
