Vampyr is unique. It’s not beautiful, its combat leaves much to be desired and its limited budget shows, but if you choose to turn a blind eye to these flaws, it will captivate you with its mature, morally ambiguous story and a series of dilemmas that usually lack a “right” answer. Street Fighter 6 boasts a superb combat system and provides a lot of freedom in terms of developing your character. Unlike Street Fighter 5, it offers many game modes from the get-go, but unfortunately World Tour is not as interesting as Capcom had us believe it would be. On the other hand, Arcade features excellent environments and pretty character models, but disappoints with its story. Despite those downsides it is a great game smartly designed to be both accessible to newcomers and appealing to veterans.

The Delicious Last Course offers more of what we loved about Cuphead, namely challenging, brilliantly designed boss battles and wonderful animations. It also introduces a third playable character and a handful of new equipment. I only wish the expansion was much longer – after all, it spent four years in development.

The new Tomb Raider is not as revolutionary as the original from 1996 but this reboot is the most mature, interesting and friendly entry to the series. For me it is Uncharted on steroids, a game that’s better in every aspect than Nathan Drake’s adventures. [CD-Action 04/2013, p.52]

A huge, lively space bazaar is overwhelming at first, but you tame it little by little and get into a bitter-sweet routine. It’s a lesson in accepting permanent destitution, limiting your ambitions, and enjoying small things. If you’re after a breathtaking story, you’ll be disappointed – as opposed to those who take pleasure in constant exploration and have a knack for trading. [03/2017, p.68]

Whereas the first game won our hearts as a love letter to cherished RPG legends (Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment), this one tempts us with its own unique flavour. The series moved away from the tried-and-true medieval fantasy setting in favor of seemingly dissonant elements (quasi-Nordic gods, strokes of traditional high fantasy, pirate mythology in the vein of Stevenson’s Treasure Island, culture of the Caribbean) that somehow fused together exceptionally well. On top of that its scale is noticeably bigger and there are tons of various improvements. All that makes Deadfire precisely the sequel it should be. [07/2018, p.66]

It looks like a simple little game, but give it some time, acquire more cards and it will surprise you with its unfolding complexity and addictiveness. Admittedly, initial loops are boring, but ultimately I spent hours on end with Loop Hero and had tons of fun. [05/2021, p.38]

The game follows in her predecessor’s footsteps, but many new ideas for puzzles, unique environments and creepy scenes make it a fresh, engaging and surprising experience from start to finish. Everything that worked well in the original Little Nightmares now packs twice the punch. [04/2021, p.60]

My first impression of Curse of the Dead Gods was that someone mixed Hades with Darkest Dungeon. However, such a simplification would be unfair, because the game does more than just borrow successful mechanics. It adds its own interesting ideas to the mix and the result is a pretty dungeon crawler with an intuitive and satisfying combat system. The environments could use more variety and I would welcome a story to follow while hacking and slashing, but overall Curse of the Dead Gods is a great, highly addictive game. [05/2021, p.46]

It boasts some great improvements over the previous game of the series, but does not evolve the formula in any significant way. It looks better and lets you glide in a wingsuit, but its scale is not surprising anymore. It lets you unleash wonderful chaos in unscripted skirmishes, but its story missions fail to enrich the experience. All the same it is my kind of game. I love playing with its systems, I appreciate the effort put into JC3 and I return to Medici from time to time for condensed doses of havoc. [01/2016, p.48]

If you love Portal, The Witness, or The Talos Principle, you’re gonna enjoy Relicta. Its puzzles might get a little tedious in the long run (they are all based on magnetic gloves), but I really enjoyed them throughout most of the campaign. What’s important (to me at least), the story is not just a quick, half-baked addition to the puzzles, but a valuable element of the game. [10/2020, p.90]

Unbounded is a part of a franchise strongly associated with consoles but somehow turns out to be average on X360 and one of the best arcade racing games in years on PC. On PC it just plays better (even with a keyboard!) and is extremely rewarding. [June 2012, p.66]

Requiem is the quintessence of modern Resident Evil. In a single story, it combines first-person survival horror tension with unrestrained action presented from a third-person perspective. AAA game refined down to the last detail, but lacking in innovation.

Kaze and the Wild Masks will make every fan of classic platformers feel right at home. It borrows the best elements from the legends of the genre, but never feels like a cheap copy. It doesn’t try to be innovative, but it looks great, delivers fun in spades and never gets dull, as literally every level has something new to show you. [05/2021, p.62]

Laser League is exceptionally enjoyable thanks to its simple rules, thrilling gameplay and the fact that you almost never find yourself in a completely hopeless situation, so the result of the match is uncertain until the very end. The AI could be much better balanced (sometimes it can neutralize you whole team with one crazy maneuver, sometimes it acts completely thoughtless) but you always have online play (with no ranking mode though, which is a shame). Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a game Star Wars deserved. Even if you were not convinced by the previous installment, the sequel is still worth giving it a chance. Not only does it further improve those elements that worked well before, but it also fixes some of Fallen Order’s flaws with minor changes and makes Cal more interesting as a character. It’s the best Star Wars game published by EA and one of the best ever created. However, it could’ve used more polish, because various bugs and shortcomings spoil the fun too often.

Torch City is really impressive. Every district has its own unique style and all the environments are extraordinarily detailed. The game’s atmosphere is fantastic, exploring the wonderfully designed world is very engaging and the combat system is great. Just go on and play it, unless you’re allergic to backtracking, because F.I.S.T. relies on it quite heavily. [11/2021, p.27]
