As an experimental platformer, Purple Cape manages to execute its concept in a way that remains familiar to genre fans, while feeling entirely unique. Definitely worth checking out if you enjoy games that do things a little differently.

Penumbear takes the simple idea of 'walking on light' and runs wild with it, turning a solid platformer in to an absolute gem thanks to its beautiful atmosphere, brain-scratching puzzles, and dastardly challenges for those who need to go the extra mile.

Hell Yeah! Pocket Inferno puts on the guise of 'Wrath of the Dead Rabbit' and then squanders its quirky style with uninspired side-scrolling gameplay that hands the player a shallow gaming experience.

The Gods: Rebellion sticks inside the well defined borders of a 3D action-brawler, even going so far as to retain the 'fallen gods' angle, and while not original it's still a solid romp.

Bipolar is a bare bones puzzle experience that is as enjoyable as it is frustrating.

What could be a very enjoyable acrobatic endless runner is hampered by an unresponsive and tiring control scheme.

A premium endless runner based on a movie license that is designed like a freemium endless runner based on a movie license. The shooting adds some enjoyment while running, but not for very long.

While so many games on the App Store (including Simogo's earlier releases) are happy with bleeping and blooping in colorful ways to providing an addictive game space, Year Walk takes a darker road and only lingers long enough to provide a decent chill down your spine.

Jool is an endless runner with an interesting flip mechanic, but aside from that has nothing really to offer.

An interesting little platformer that's based around timing your way forward in order to get the treasure, complete with a low-fi presentation. Serviceable, but doesn't really deliver on its promise.

A beautiful little adventure game that looks to take inspiration from Superbrothers Sword & Sworcery EP.

It seems that word games are a genre that has been over-saturated with a glut of adequate entries that water it down. Tumblewords reminds us how simple and addictive the genre can be.

Half-inch Heist is an arcade game, in that it is a brutal reflex testing experience that has players replaying old ground unless they pony up cash to make use of the continue system.

Battle Line is a defense game that has bland, boring gameplay, mediocre visuals, and leans heavily on having the player spend money to upgrade.

Tapforss is the perfect fodder for those who fancy themselves as lovers of skill testers; despite the casual simplicity of its presentation and controls, simply surviving a level can be a frustratingly fun challenge all its own.

Although the path-drawing / screen-painting puzzler is far from new on the App Store, Puzzler Restorer by Gavina Games makes for a beautiful and brutally brain-bending twist on the concept; expect hours to melt away.

Rock Runners is a rock-solid bite-sized platformer that may err on the side of being too 'casual', but much like any other snack you get a burst of enjoyment each time you chow down on a level and can't help but plow in to the next one immediately.

Real Racing 3 is a true 'Jekyll and Hyde' - one moment you're lost in the majesty of throbbing engines, squealing tyres and exhaust fumes as you tear your way around a track... and the next you're staring at a ticking timer, waiting for a chance to get back in to that dream-like head-space and delay the inevitable wait for a moment longer.

Solar 2 is a wonderful adaption of the original title and is probably the first for the platform to make you feel like you're playing GTA as a planetoid; that quirky sense of fun permeates the game, making it a solid choice for those after something out of the ordinary.

After Burner Climax is to gaming, what giant piles of random bits of candy are to desert; they both provide a short burst of joy and can be ever so sweet, but without more structure it quickly loses its flavor.

By continually emulating, instead of innovating the METAL SLUG series, SNK PLAYMORE and DotEmu feel like their hands are tied when it comes to replicating the performance and precision of the Arcade originals; METAL SLUG 2 may not be the strongest of the originals, but it plays better on the iOS platform than previous releases and thus wins out by default.

While not a terrible use of the freemium model, it's not doing itself any favors by engaging in a 'wait or spend' game style. For those susceptible to these mechanics though, Pixel People is one of the least offensive games in this genre, and will keep you glued to your screen.
