Old Skies is a wonderfully written, charmingly animated adventure game with excellent voice acting and accessible puzzles, firmly upholding Wadjet Eye’s legacy in the genre.

Rosewater is a modern classic, a story of how one may find and form a family through road trip exploits. Great graphics and sound design, multiple-solution puzzles, and creative accessibility options make this adventure an experience that players will remember long after the game is over.

The Amerzone – The Explorer’s Legacy remake is a bold and melancholic tribute that embraces its anachronistic roots to deliver a hauntingly beautiful, atmospheric journey that’s more about reverie than challenge.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a story that fits superbly into the Indiana Jones mythos. The slower exploration and puzzle-based gameplay may not be for everyone, especially given MachineGames’ previous endeavors. Still, it kept me hooked until the end. This game should be played at least once, but I would happily play it again.

On Your Tail has atmosphere, fun mini-games, and beautiful craftsmanship, but such pleasures are undermined by its uninspiring story and tedious detective mechanics. A decent starting point for a hopefully more cohesive adventure to come.

Penny Larceny: Gig Economy Supervillain is an undeniably enjoyable and remarkably well-written visual novel, with music of high quality.

Life Is Strange: Double Exposure completely delivers on the core expectations for the series, with compelling characters, excellent dialog and voice acting, and a sometimes-harrowing story.

Murder Malady is tragic, amusing, oddly dreamlike, and a lot of fun in a gentle way – it’s another Carol Reed game, and yet another good one!

While not without its flaws, Rauniot delivers an immersive, atmospheric experience with relatable characters and a vividly realized post-apocalyptic world. Its innovative fast-travel system and logical puzzles shine, even as thin storytelling and strange design choices occasionally hold it back.

Loco Motive is a wonderful interactive experience featuring stylish pixel art, an intricate mystery, humorous dialogs, and fantastic voice-overs.

Puzzles involving navigation may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s no combat, no death, and no timed challenges; frustrating at moments, but pretty chill. You will find it intriguing if you’re up for exploring and navigating landscapes with chunks of story on the side.

A fantastic, classic-style adventure, The Phantom Fellows’ striking and eerily lit pixel art vivifies a world full of paranormal mystery and challenge.

Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse – Remastered keeps the overall game the same while polishing the presentation. Yet, one or two missing elements from the remastered predecessors and the confusing narrative of the last two episodes hold it back from true greatness. If you are a Sam & Max fan or someone new to the Sam & Max universe, this game and its predecessors are both the best reminiscent journey and gateway imaginable.

Été features an unconventional and innovative approach to painting, offering a unique and engaging gameplay experience. However, it eventually falls short in delivering a compelling narrative, which could have further enhanced the overall experience.

An outstanding simulation game with a remarkably strong narrative spine. Wylde Flowers is not hugely emotionally impactful, but is good fun – though given its genre, expect a bit of grind.

Ramas’ Call: Twisted timing features stylized environments with vivid, colorful details, energetic sound design, and clever inventory and fetch quests. Players will enjoy its entertaining story and quirky, memorable characters.

Fans of the “conversation and food/drink making” genre – if it is even a genre, since we have only three examples – will appreciate Midnight Ramen. It’s a pleasant way to while away a few hours at a reasonable price, and it does pack an emotional punch.

The Crimson Diamond is a gem of a 2024 release – a convincingly vintage, but also refreshingly modern take on the text parser game. The overall package is a modest but fulfilling mystery that doesn’t overstay its welcome and leaves a fantastic impression of what adventure gaming was like in its golden era.

The Talos Principle 2: Road to Elysium successfully expands upon its puzzle elements and provides some of the most challenging puzzles that, for better or worse, push the definition of unorthodox. While the philosophical elements and player agency that made the main game great are mostly missing, the plots and characters make up for the absence of these components. So, if you enjoyed The Talos Principle 2 on launch, you will definitely admire this expansion.

Asleep – Ato 1 presents a lively horror-based narrative, intriguing pixel art and a creepy soundscape. A few puzzles are somewhat obtuse. Players need quick reflexes and a sharp mind to succeed, not only to solve the puzzles, but to survive the terror.

Riven is a remake that stays true to the original. While the breathtaking world and visuals adeptly draw you in, the initial obscurity of the story and puzzle complexity may eventually push you away from full engagement. Still, for those who have played and enjoyed the original, this is an excellent dive back into a spectacular world, and an opportunity to see how Cyan Worlds has enriched the original vision.

44 The Jail is a gripping point-and-click adventure game with minimalist art and captivating background music. Patience and sharp observation skills are essential to conquering the logical puzzles. The game is not suitable for children due to depictions of violence and sexual situations, but adults will find it worth playing.

DigiTales Interactive has created a sci-fi whodunit hit with Between Horizons. Not only are the players tasked with solving an intricate investigation, but they are also thrown into a narrative that they shape through difficult choices that, once made, must be seen through to the end. It is a must-have game for anyone who loves mysteries and science fiction.

An English Haunting is a memorable experience, revealing an intricate, gripping story, elaborate and varied locations, plus stimulating puzzles that are not mind-bogglingly difficult.

Tales from Candleforth is a solid, although brief, Room Escape-like adventure, with a few nightmarish scenes you may never forget.

This point may also be compounded by the game’s length, which can take 35 hours if only dealing with the main content, with side content adding several additional hours. Still, this is a gorgeous game well worth experiencing and an invigorating treat for puzzle game enthusiasts or philosophy majors.

Enypnion Redreamed, a brainteasing adventure, uses creative, surreal visuals and sound to bring dreams to life.

A masterfully crafted adventure, Murder Is Game Over: Streaming Death offers a rich narrative and engaging gameplay that immerses players in a suspenseful, ghostly mystery without the gore.

Hollow Cocoon takes inspiration from other horror stealth games in all the right ways, with an effectively scary monster and beautiful environments that encourage roaming and lingering.

Baker Street Breakouts: A Sherlockian Escape Adventure is logically invigorating, where every escape room provides unique challenges and subtly tells the game’s story alongside the text boxes. There could have been more focus on characters outside of Holmes and Moriarty, and the visual presentation is somewhat standard, yet each room is strikingly varied. The developer’s creative energies are readily apparent, and any Sherlock Holmes fan or puzzle gamer will enthusiastically savor this title.

For a story told out of order, Universe for Sale is easy to follow and even easier to love.

Woodhill Interactive’s Orten Was The Case is a good game, but has a few noticeable flaws. On the one hand, the narrative itself is incredible, and the deeper you dive, the more enticing it becomes. There are evident issues with the gameplay and presentation, but patient players can push through or adapt to them. Those looking for an absorbing tale will find much to admire in this game.

The Will of Arthur Flabbington features vivid pixel-art graphics, skillful voice acting, and a witty tale that players will love.

This Bed We Made is an enthralling mystery with an unusual protagonist, brought to life by convincingly detailed graphics and excellent voice acting.

While it’s bogged down by repetitive gameplay and an uninteresting narrative, Incubus puts you in the shoes of a real-life ghost hunter with a chilling environment and compelling puzzles in its second half.

The gripping science-fiction narrative in Three Minutes To Eight features an ingenious use of random elements that, combined with well-executed pixel art graphics and accomplished voice acting, ensure that each experience is unique.

Agatha Christie – Murder on the Orient Express is a shockingly superb reimagining of a beloved book, with a few twists that even veteran Poirot fans will want to stick to by the end of the 15 hours of play. The experience gets somewhat bogged down by challenging puzzles at the end, and the mind map and profiling would have benefited from a few additions and clarifications. Still, this is an easy recommendation if you are a mystery enthusiast or an Agatha Christie fan.
