Most Anticipated Video Games of 2016, Part 2: New IP and Indie Releases
Earlier this week, we previewed the most-anticipated videogame sequels and remakes coming in 2016. Now, it's time to look at a second batch of games that may be even more important to the future of gaming: brand-new IP. These newcomers may not yet have the name recognition that the established franchises have earned, but will hopefully bring something fresh and original to game consoles (and PCs) this year.
A Kickstarter-funded project from Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune, this 2D side-scrolling platformer takes place in a world whose mechanized inhabitants have gone amok thanks to a widespread computer virus. Your character, the ninth in a line of "powerful robots," is free of the virus and serves as the world's last line of defense. Though it is rolling out a bit later than originally expected, Mighty No. 9's successful fundraising (nearly $4 million) means that the one-time PC-only game will come out on virtually every existing platform, though the Vita and 3DS versions will arrive at a later date.
