  1. The chaff-to-wheat ratio remains distressingly unbalanced on Torino.
  2. For the most part, this is more of the same, which disciples will have no qualms about.

Gedge does an interesting job of blending fuzzy guitar with orchestral arrangements on this album; the elements fit together more coherently Gedge does an interesting job of blending fuzzy guitar with orchestral arrangements on this album; the elements fit together more coherently than they did on Disco Volante. At the same time, the excessive number of mid-tempo numbers leave you feeling like Gedge is holding back a little bit. Maybe Gedge doesn't want to rock as hard as he used to with The Wedding Present, but it's arguably what he does best. Go see Cinerama in concert--where the songs are faster and more guitar-based--and you'll see what I mean. Still, this disc will most likely make it into my "Top 10 of 2002" list. It's a solid effort.
