What did this album give? this album is very much overrated, most of the songs are so shallow. Sour's all about the "aesthetics" and not really about the music. EXCELENTE.

Dare I say Olivia had the best debut album of the last 5 years? I do. Olivia had a very strong record that was very emotionally charged. The record was pretty short but I will say that I think it was nice having a no skip record versus a 17 song album that you skip half songs. The songwriting was fantastic and obviously, there's room to grow, but this is a very strong album. HighlightsDare I say Olivia had the best debut album of the last 5 years? I do. It’s sad how every lyric of brutal relate to me a little too much. The rest of the album displays her range in vocals and genres, but they all share one thing in common. Teenage heartbreak. Olivia did not just say “he broke my heart I hate him” she truly described what he did, how she feels, what she wished was different, how she felt back then, and more. A short but well done debut album of a girl who is sure to only improve with time and experience. The singles (Driver's License, Deja Vu, and Good 4 U) are probably my favorites off the album, but Olivia's songwriting skills are definitely on display across the board. I can't wait to see what she does in the future!

I listened to this album right after listening to Conan Gray’s Kid Krow, not knowing they were friends. It felt like a blatant rip off of his really decent debut album. ‘Hope your ok’ mimics the same sentiment of ‘the story.’ Other songs don’t just match theme but also sonically such as traitor and Heather.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is, in my opinion the best album of the year. First the album starts of with a ice braking punk pop inspired hit in brutal. Then directly after totally changing up the mood with the beutiful and heartbreaking song traitor. Then obviously we have the biggest hit of 2021 Drivers Licence, which is still as Good as it was when it came out. After that we have the simplistic but Beautiful song 1 step forward 3 Steps back, which I would say is an incredible song to go into after to big Heartbreak ballads in traitor and Drivers Licence as an ice breaker song to calm down the mood a little. Then we got the beautiful and again a great mix Up from the last song when this is next to a little happy and angry att the se time, just a Beautiful song. Then we go in to the second biggest hit from the album, and may become the biggest on the the album as it is Still two months after It's realease dominantly getting the most streams of Any song right now earning over 55 million streams Every week. You can also easily see why it has become so popular as this also a Little pop punk inspired song is probably the most catchy song in the whole entire album. After the little angry song in Good 4 U we have probably one of the saddest songs on the album, Enough For You. This song is even more heartbreaking than, for me, any other song on the album. Then we go over to Happier which is not really that much happier than Enough For You, but is agian another Heartbreak ballads which seems to be kinda the theme of this album, to show all the "Sour" parts of Love and life. But I would still say that every song brings something different to the table and Happier is no exception. When she in this song starts showing a little bit of that jealous side and I think this is something everyone goes through in a Heartbreak. Now we go over to the next song, Jealousy jealousy. This is for me One of the most relatable songs on the whole entire album. I also think this song talks about a very important topic nowadays, the internet and how humans are portrayed to be like, and she does it in such a good and relatable way. Just an incredible song. Then we now have come to the 10th song of the album Favourite Crime. This song is again just a very beautiful song, talking about all the bad stuff she did just to be together with this one boy, and everything she went trough just so they could be together. Now we have the last song of the album, Hope Ur Ok.I would say this is a perfect way to ens an album which for me had been an emotional roller coaster. It's soft and again beautiful and just the absolutely best song to end on. Overall this album is just amazing with amazing songwriting and an amazing voice in Olivia Rodrigo. IF you haven't already listened to this album I think you really should because, this is definetly worth a listen, and you will probably be a bryter person after listening to this.

So that's why I am giving this album a 10.

SOUR is too sour for me. Her debut as an artist/singer is very big and ambitious. But SOUR represents broken morals and centuries-old stereotypes (the guy dumps the girl and she is mad). All of this is way too much oversaturated on the psycho-girl theme and the pointing fingers game doesn't suit the angel she actually is in real life.

What I must focus on 100% is the suffering that this girl has suffered during her adolescence. It's great to see how she channeled her emotions into music, but, I think the industry is too big and dangerous for a transparent queen like her. I hope to be wrong; her tracklist is already in the Billboard Top 40, so we know who's boss now. Is this the Jagged Little Pill of the centennials? Leaving aside that private life, the influence of her likes is notorious, such as country, Taylor Swift, Paramore, etc., and the best thing is that she credits all that; It isn't easy to see singers doing it because of the great artistic ego that predominates in the industry.

Imma keep it real, just ignore all of the 7-15 year old girls and Dads who only have daughters that really just need to watch a Tarantino movie that are also reviewing this album. Some songs are boring, yes, but Olivia more than proved she can be versatile in her production (however not the topics of her songs!!!!!!) and made some songs that I really and truly enjoyed. Her songwriting isn't anything new or groundbreaking, it's her performance that gets my attention anyway. This will probably undeservedly (or maybe deservedly, music might suck this year, but we've still got a few months to make it a full house) get nominated for pop album/album of the year at the Grammy's, MTV's, you name it, but I do actually hope Olivia goes on to have a successful career. She is definitely one of the more talented artists out right now and this wipes Taylor's debut album. But for the love of all things holy get over your ex. We don't want you to turn into Adele. I just feel bad for the guy, I don't care if he cheated on you with 18 other women just leave him alone. Expand

Such a good album. A lot of the songs transported me back to being a kid with a lot of older sounds used. Her vocals are amazing and the lyricism shows that she has a creativity to her artistry.

It’s incredible how she was able to tell her story and almost bring us to inside her head and soul. Such a great album! Well done, Olivia!

A very drab attempt of reviving the Taylor Swift-esque era of depressing music that doesn't function well compared to the likes of other artists with the same music quota. Soulful, but boring, we've heard and seen this before, time for something new

this is the best album i've heard in 2021 so far. anyone who's heard SOUR would know how liv gave her all into making her debut album. it's impossible for a teenager not to connect with her lyrics and her teenage feelings. some say she references too many artists, but she mixed taylor swift, lorde, billie eilish, and a lot more into her own style, it's so brand new and i just love it.this is the best album i've heard in 2021 so far. anyone who's heard SOUR would know how liv gave her all into making her debut album. it's impossible for a teenager not to connect with her lyrics and her teenage feelings. some say she references too many artists, but she mixed taylor swift, lorde, billie eilish, and a lot more into her own style, it's so brand new and i just love it. everyone should hear SOUR. and i can't believe liv is only seventeen and this is only her debut album. this girl will have such a bright future, she will become the hugest star of the decade. and by when she becomes the most popular and liked global star, i will proudly say to the world how i listened to her debut album twenty times per day and how much i loved her from the start. I'm so surprised at how fantastic and touching this album is. I always thought that all music talked about was teenager love. But after listening to this album more carefully, I realized that each word has so much heartwarming. Yes, it is mostly about first love or something like that, but the important part is how the lyrics talks about feelings and just cliché love. Sour, just like its name, feels sour. One thing that bugs me off is that out of the 11 songs on this album, 9 of them feel like they were made to be viral on TikTok, the app that made Olivia's drivers license a great hit. I would personally describe Sour as eleven different poetic ways of talking about heartbreak, which... kinda gets repetitive at some point. I would personally describe Sour as eleven different poetic ways of talking about heartbreak, which... kinda gets repetitive at some point. Targeted at a young female audience, I wouldn't personally blame Olivia for talking about heartbreak all the time, because let's be honest, a white teenage girl doesn't need to adress serious issues like racism or homophobia in her songs. Apart from that, the album serves its purpose: the songs are catchy, trendy and made to be viral on TikTok, something that actually is very positive for artists, as the viral songs on TikTok end up going viral on Spotify/Apple Music too (taking Castaways from The Backyardigans, for example). Having that said, I don't think there's much more to it. I don't think this is a great album, considering how easily we can fit Olivia into the "industry plant" category. Catchy, emotional, trendy, and that's it. Definetly a contender for Pop AOTY, but nothing more to it, it's just a normal teenage pop album. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This album really gives a specials vibe with many different beats and how each song stands out on it's own. I would have liked it more if she showed her emotions and made more songs like Drivers License, Traitor, and Happier which shows how much she is hurting and how the breakup went. Her lyrics was the best and just like her idol, Taylor Swift. I give Oliva a round of applause with this album because it is one of the few albums that has no skips and are all equally great. Expand

umm... i do enjoyed this body of work. its teen, its fresh. something about the rock or her attitude that gave this record amazing ( shout out to hope ur ok, that song makes me cry). but in some parts of some songs i kinda miss something, some vocals or u know. but overall thats is a real jam. really like it.

Almost all of the songs on this album are about a boy or is about a breakup. Though they are extremely catchy like Deja Vu, Brutal, and Traitor, I just like songs that are not about the same thing.

Somewhat of an unadventurous record, but Olivia's singing and the complementary production elevates the impact of what would otherwise have been an ordinary "teenage" indie/ballad album. Raw and emotional, and there's a lot of feeling behind each word and lyric that Olivia sings. There's also a variety of punk-pop/rock to stray the album away from staleness, and it definitely makes theSomewhat of an unadventurous record, but Olivia's singing and the complementary production elevates the impact of what would otherwise have been an ordinary "teenage" indie/ballad album.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Its good album, lyrically it is quite lacking in diversity from song to song. The album is solely about the breakup between Olivia and her ex and it is all that is talked about, so can be a bit boring at times. Musically, it is not overproduced so there is some raw sound, but this just makes her sound even more like Billie Eilish. Its a pretty good debut album but nothing special. Expand

I think that the album was very hyped before the release and listening to all the tracks was very … delusional. “driver license” was good only for a tiktok trend and so “deja vu”. “good 4 u” instead is a very cute song maybe the only one that’s very good from the album.

Her combination of sweet melodies and bitter moods, her conversational flow, and her self-awareness are all skills many songwriters twice her age would love to call their own, and they make Sour a well-rounded emotional journey and strong debut album.

Sour, for the most part, is a pop album that dips its toes into the alt-pop and bedroom pop subgenres, specifically spending most of its time in the latter. ... Rodrigo's lo-fi deep cuts that were made in the shadow of "Drivers License" can sound a bit repetitive. Her craft as a songwriter is especially evident on tracks like "Enough For You", "Happier", or "Hope Ur Ok", but the acoustic complexion these songs were going for could have benefitted from a bit more background noise.

By the end of the album, Rodrigo has established her voice and showed listeners that she's not afraid to be vulnerable. SOUR is a strong debut that vividly illustrates the beautiful chaos of being inside a teenage girl's brain.
