Starting with energetic and refreshing classic pop tracks such as ‘Never Really Over’, ‘’Cry About It Later’, and ‘Teary Eyes’ Katy spreads messages of encouragement, empowerment and perseverance which is exactly what the world needs during these trying times. These new sounds are really experimental for Katy and showcase Katy’s ability to adapt and keep up with new trends and new sounds. Furthermore, we delve deeper into Katy’s witty writing style and stellar vocal deliver with empowering songs such as ‘Daisies’ and ‘Resilient’. Both judiciously portraying the raw emotion Katy felt after the rejection of her fourth studio album ‘Witness’. Then we come to ‘Not The End Of The World’, this drop-weight pop masterpiece is produced flawlessly, conveying a dark theme with such empowering lyrics. The use of the Bananarama ‘Na Na Hey Hey’ sample was so clever as it really added to the message the song was trying to convey. Then we arrive to a section of the album which focuses on the complexities of Katy’s relationships over the past three years; with ‘Champagne Problems’ communicating a fun message of love and the back and forth that comes with it, creating for a fun relatable song with an upbeat and catchy production. ‘Tucked’ gives us a glimpse of the only Teenage Dream Katy writing style we have came to know and love, taking a fun message of youthful obsession aided by the quirky production. ‘Harley’s In Hawaii’ is a mouthwatering track, this style of music nobody is doing right now really putting her in her own lane, the stunning use of guitar and traditional instrument creates for a summer love anthem, furthermore the fun and addictive lyrics really draw you in and captivate your senses, almost synaesthetic in its story-telling. The penultimate track ‘Only Love’ is an adorable homage to the art of Love. This track is produced in a way that complements Katy’s vocals and lyrics sending shivers down your spine at some points the vocal/instrumental combo is that beautiful. This song really shows how Katy has grown and became stronger, we see how the resilience gained from the other tracks have had an impact. The final track ‘What Makes A Woman’ id a beautiful homage to all women, but specifically her beautiful baby girl ‘Daisy Dove Bloom’ conveying a message of empowerment. In these gloomy times we really needed this incredible feminist anthem, also making for the perfect closer to the album, really the epitome of resilience, change and regaining your smile.… Expand

    Great album, I think it’s a different sound. Some people saying it’s similar to past albums but I don’t think she’s had this modern dance sound before. I love the message this album carry’s and I think a lot of critic have been overly unfair on this. Album is full off hope and perfect for the time.

    Smile perfectly encapsulates Katy's own story of pain, resilience and growth. Amidst isolation, agony, anxiety and divisiveness, Smile's timing is perfectly right. It showcases her vocal prowess and her ability to turn her own pain and recovery into a collection of empowering anthems that resonate well with a lot of her listeners and the general public.

    Katy Perry deserves nothing but love and respect!

    This is such an amazing album. Some songs are real bops, like Not the End of the world and Cry About it Later, which has the best production after Never Really Over. Only Love and What Makes a Woman are the est ballads.

    I mean, Katy Perry gave us an album and promoted during a pandemic and while being pregnant.

    Katy Perry's fifth album left us nothing but a Smile on our faces. I think this is her best album since she told us that it is a combination of Teenage Dream and Prism. Amidst the pandemic that we are facing, Katy delivered us a bundle of joy. This is one of the best thing that happened this year.

    I geninuely have no idea why these critics have been so harsh. This album is full of healing, fun and fabulous floor fillers. It really shows just how much Katy has grown over the years and there is definitly potential for a few chart toppers in here. I would highly reccomend this album as it's full of fun and really brought a smile to my face !

This album represents her strives to overcome the darkest period of her life and you can definitely tell. These songs are uplifting and exude light. This is the music the world needs right now.     Smile is Katy Perry's best album, it's fun and poppy sound is perfect for the time that were living in where anything that can get our minds from the awful things going on is appreciated, it's Katy getting her Smile back and making her best work yet while she's at it.

    What she tell us in this album is some tiny wonderful.
    Just by the fact that she overcame multiple situations, got back her smile and found herself in “Smile”, makes this record one of her greatest in her whole career.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Every song has a grand message for us. I need to say that Never Really Over, even being the oldest song on the album, still very strong.
    My favorite songs on the album are NRO, Cry About it Later, Teary Eyes, Tucked, Champagne Problems, Not the End of the World, Harleys in Hawaii, Smile. Almost all the album. But I need to listen more and mor to have sure for what I am saying. I loved and I love all of Smile‘s Era and artworks since 2019, and I can’t forgot Small Talk too.    … Expand

    Without fleeting moments of bad taste, Perry does indeed sound mature, but she's also not quite as fun. That's a conscious choice, though. Smile is intended to evoke memories of her frivolous younger days while pointing toward a sustainable pop future.

    Like Joanne before Chromatica, Smile plays like a necessary centering exercise, indulging her insecurities and less surefire instincts. If Witness was overdetermined, Smile is an earnest exhale, for better or for worse. It delivers an image of her journey towards inner peace that is honest (if corny) and catchy (if not exactly inventive).
