    Cohesive, refreshing, and innovative! Selena truly found her knack with this album which includes plenty timeless gems. This is the best pop album in recent memory and it solidifies her own specific sound in music. It is powerful lyrically with songs like Lose You To Love Me as sonically with songs like Crowded Room and Vulnerable. There is not a skip on the album and each song serves itsCohesive, refreshing, and innovative! Selena truly found her knack with this album which includes plenty timeless gems. This is the best pop album in recent memory and it solidifies her own specific sound in music. It is powerful lyrically with songs like Lose You To Love Me as sonically with songs like Crowded Room and Vulnerable. There is not a skip on the album and each song serves its purpose. The features do not feel forced and actually add to the music. Overall Rare is not only Selena's best album thus far, but it sets a standard for pop going forward.… Expand

However, Ring proves to be a fish out of water within the sound of the album. Selena bets on contagious beats and brought a good rhythm to the current pop.     The vocals just aren’t doing it for me. Songs sound like Julia Michaels demos with strange syncopations that could have been created by toddlers and someone please get this girl some singing lessons.

    While none of these 13 songs attempt the subtle weirdness of “Bad Liar” and the emotional thesis—self-love!—can be a bit one-note, Rare is the 27-year-old’s most cohesive record to date. ... But it’s difficult to come away from Rare with any real perspective on who Gomez is other than that she doesn’t want to be the person she was, whoever that similarly mysterious shadow was.
