Taylor Swift's new album "Midnights" exists so that the word "cryptic" has a definition. With sounds that seem to walk between Reputation, Lover and Folklore, but with an original, innovative and experimental touch in Taylor; and the lyrical quality that is never lacking. This is, without a doubt, one of her best albums, and I could bet on this one for the title of "Album of the Year".Taylor Swift's new album "Midnights" exists so that the word "cryptic" has a definition. This album is fantastic. It has all the best production aspects of 1989, reputation, and Lover, as well as the lyricism of folklore and evermore. Would've, Could've, Should've and Lavender Haze are the standouts right now, but all the tracks are great. It's also her 10th album after over 16 years in the industry and the fact that it's this good is insane.

Taylor once again proves that she's her only competition. She doesn't have to prove anything at this point, she's just creating art for the sake of it. The bonus 7 tracks are simply a cherry on top. Her willingness to share the whole creating process with us is one of a kind. She comes back to pop after her venture through other genres and constructs a new standard for music all on her own. Again.

Great album This seems like a mix of 1989, Reputation and Lover. I like the concept, and the lyrics are top tier (not as good as Folklore ones but still amazing). I was VERY excited for SOTB for the Lana collab, but she appeared 15s and not as main vocals; the song was boring and nothing was shown up.
    Highlights: Lavender Haze, Maroon, Mastermind
    Worst: Snow on the Beach

I really enjoyed Red, Folklore, and Evermore and going into this optimistically, I was extremely disappointed. A lot of the lyrics and tones of voice were corny and overly sophisticated for no reason. Pretty boring album, the only reason I’m not putting a zero is because Labyrinth was good and Lavender Haze was tolerable.

The lyrics sound like she put her discography, some words she thought sounded nice, profanity, and some pop culture references into EI and this is what popped out. It's cringy and incoherent and she uses too many vocal effects. It sounds like she both hates herself and is obsessed with herself and revenge and desperately wants you to think she is a badass. There are many cringy lyrics such as "Karma is a cat purring in my lap" and "Sometimes I feel like everybody is a sexy baby and I'm a monster on the hill." One would hope these were cheeky songs, except she sounds like she is trying to be sensual. I'm not a Taylor-hater by nature either. I was a fan for the majority of her career but this is all the worst elements of her music put together and amplified. Listening to this album truly felt like she was trying to see if she could put out terrible music and still dominate the charts and have critical acclaim due to her name-powet. It is a cringy and disappointing offering.

To me it’s just not that good, her worst and weakest album to date. The melodies go absolutely nowhere, vocal melodies are so boring and the production is plain, there’s no vocal range, Taylor stays in the same register the entire time, lyrics are not so great either, throwing in a few big words doesnt necessarily make a song good, feels like her tackiest juvenile lyrics yet. It doesnt sound like a taylor swift album. Snow On The Beach is decent and anti hero is a grower but thats it. Not one good hook or amazing bridge something she is very well known for. The songs just sort drag on, like you are waiting for something to happen and it just doesnt. She used Lana as a selling point and she barley sung on the song apart from one line. Its like jack told her 'hey go read some monotone poetry' and write lyrics like that and I’ll do some boring synth work over the rest. It’s basically sounds like a bad jack antonoff album to me, not a Taylor swift one. I think she needs to stop working with him, hes boring and doesn’t challenge her and most of his stuff all sounds the same. I don’t know how swift can go from writing songs like Dear John on her own at 19 to whatever this mess is, like I expected hard hitting lyrics the way she describe this album but to me it sounds like something a semi decent 19yr old pop singer today would write. If any other artist released this I wouldn’t have listened to it, and if any other artist released this I doubt they’d be getting the same hype. It feels like nothing but favouritism to me at this point, anything she does gets praised no matter if its good or bad, anyone who dares gives her constructive criticism is deemed a hater and that’s the problem critics are afraid of getting blacklisted or attacked by her or her fans and when you have an entire fandom that are yes people there is zero room for growth. Overall an underwhelming album that isn’t that enjoyable to listen to and something that is forgettable, I’ve listened to it over and over the past day and not one lyric or melody has stuck or played in my head, something that always happens with a swift album and this is coming from a swiftie since 2007. It's like a mixture of 1989, reputation, Lover, folklore and evermore. I really loved the sound it's catchy and not too bland. I think this might be her best album era if you are a long time fan since the beginning.

Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff and the other Collaborators put everything they’ve learned so far into this great album. Jack’s amazing production and Taylor’s beautiful songwriting and vocals seem to be a combination of all of their previous works. Feels like a natural progression for all the people that worked on this album. Expand

this is literally the worst album of the decade. the lyrics are terrible, and in many songs they are just not connected and do not make any sense. she just tries to seem smart, but even using a dictionary does not help her much. the self-repeating with the music from the old albums is terrible. did you seriously repeat tunes from old albums? go finish your career. i am already not talkingthis is literally the worst album of the decade. the lyrics are terrible, and in many songs they are just not connected and do not make any sense. she just tries to seem smart, but even using a dictionary does not help her much. the self-repeating with the music from the old albums is terrible. did you seriously repeat tunes from old albums? go finish your career. i am already not talking about the fact that she does not change her sound. In 2014, in 2017, in 2019, the same sound. no creative growth, no progress. but you do not expect anything new from her, she does not care about music, she cares about sales and numbers on Spotify. she should rather finish her music career, because this is another mediocre album in her discography and also the worst album of this decade. Uninspired tracks with sloppy writing. Only few of the songs actually sticks, the rest feels like fillers with the same cottage core production that only her hardcore supporters pretend to like. 2/10

She definitely can do better. It’s boring and the lyrics are really childish. Absolutely not what I was looking for after her hype.

This album is so good the way she used her passed sleepless nights to make this masterpiece of a an album. Lavender Haze is a great starter for an album You’re on your own kid is such a beautiful song it got me to tear up. The bridge in Mastermind made relate to much because I didn’t have any friends in school.

Sounds good but as always, no new stuff, no innovation. I would like to hear new sounds, something more risky.

It's a brilliant album and she targets self loathing and getting hated plus anxiety, depression etc and it's so beautifully crafted. I'm amazed at the quality of production. a solid 10/10

Midnights is not only made of high quality, but also has a very unique marketing idea to give fans very positive psychological stimulation.

Yet again, no creativity, lazy lyrics, same old sound (which is bland in itself). And the hyped up "collaboration" between Taylor and Lana was very disappointing.

What's funny is whoever's giving this album good reviews has obviously lost sense, like how can one go from the brilliance in Folklore to whatever color coded, disney produced, 16 year old, white girl lyrics?

'Karma is a at purring in my lap, cause it likes me.' What? What? What the f-? The entire album is a mix of lover, reputation, and evermore rejects, and it sounds absolutely

It allows Swift to do what she has always wanted: make an album for its own sake that is received primarily as a work of art instead of a commercial entity or tabloid fodder.

It is very good. ... There are no major missteps within the album, although not everything works as well as the album’s brightest spots.

While her 10th album doesn’t make instant classic status like 1989, and Evermore and Folklore remain her masterpieces, it is still an understated, beguiling look into the mind of one of the biggest pop stars of our age.
