I was not at all prepared to like this album. Although I enjoyed Medellin I thought Crave and Future were lackluster. However, in the context of the album they work. God Control is one of the best Madonna beats ever; although, I don't really care for the lyrics.

First listen, I was super in love with a few songs, but was confused about the rest. SO second time through, and I get it now. Such an unusual and interesting and enjoyable record! I an now in love with it. God Control, Looking for Mercy, Dark Ballet, Crave, Faz Gostoso (now) and I don't Search I find are my faves. Also love **** I'm Loca, Crazy, Come Alive.. such a great fun listen. TheFirst listen, I was super in love with a few songs, but was confused about the rest. SO second time through, and I get it now. The album is great and sounds unique! Madonna is the “Queen of Pop” and here she proves why. The best album since “Confession on a Dancefloor”.

Um álbum que resume a carreira de Madonna e que a coloca novamente na música experimental. Do dance clássico ao fado, ela mais uma vez reinventa o pop.

Masterpiece. Madonna redefines the pop music, just as what she did with Like a Prayer, Ray of Light and Confessions on a Dance Floor

The Best album of Madonna since Confession on a dance floor. Here she mixes portuguese music with a little bit of latin music. I really don't understand why this album has so many mixed reviews!

On just the first listens - one of the most consistent, creative albums she’s delivered in years. Definitely not chasing trends... i think this is going to be a grower and adds to her legacy.

Finally after 13 years, her own style and sound. From Lisbon to Cape Verde, from Cape Verde to Rio and then to Medellin, Jamaica to land in NY. What a musical trip.

A diverse universe. There are three albums in this. There is romance, sex and politics, as in any Madonna album, but also Latin and Lisbon allusions, in the new and extravagant Madame X. And, in fact, Madonna refuses to be simplistic, refuses to be lazy, refuses herself to sit still. And with Madame X, with more or less brilliance between songs, shows that she ran after what she wanted.A diverse universe. There are three albums in this. One of Madonna's most original, raw and inside albums. You can only love it, or hate it, it's hard to just like it. She's proven once again she's the queen of all the pop queens, completely careless about the ratings and critics, she's just out there doing her thing. I really really loved it!

Today Madonna finally released her 14th (15th if you count the fabulous I'm Breathless) studio album, Madame X. Been up for half the night, and all morning listening to it, and falling in love with every single track. 37 years into her reign as Queen of Pop, and Madonna just dropped her most intensely weird, and vibrant album. A masterpiece of zero **** to give, and I'm here for it. ThisToday Madonna finally released her 14th (15th if you count the fabulous I'm Breathless) studio album, Madame X. A masterpiece of zero **** to give, and I'm here for it. This is the world music album I've always wanted her to make, and she delivers in spectacular fashion, on the eve of her 61st birthday. Favela funk, African rhythms, latin pop, fado, 90's deep house, reggae, it's all here and it works beautifully. Expand

Her masterpiece for this generation. The labor of love of an artist committed to her vision and to give a voice to all of people that don’t have one. Proud fan and as a pop music lover, I just have to say this album raised the bar to the sky for the current pop acts!

The pace plods on some mid-tempo tracks, but overall this is a personal, politically-charged mix of dark thoughts and good vibes. [Aug 2019, p.88]

Overall, Madonna’s fourteenth album Madame X feels as if Mirwais had mostly completed a decent run-of-the-mill modern pop record, albeit with a cool hotch-potch global feel; hip nods in place to fado, dub and other micro-genres dunked amongst the trap and retro disco. But then just before sign-off, Herself went through the top-lines with a sharpie. ... None of these carefully curated flourishes feel as if they truly live inside the ‘whole’ of this music. Instead it all feels plonked on top of a template.

Madonna has created this music for an audience of one: Herself. Often it works. Sometimes it doesn’t.
