Listen, I respect that madonna has been in the game for 4 decades and has set a tone but come on....how do people listen to this auto tuned crap? I'm not saying the whole album is horrible but it definitely isn't innovative and it certainly isn't good. No thank you.

I am a huge Madonna fan, and more to the point a fan of music progression. Madonna is the Queen of pop-music and the Queen of re-invention. I applaud her ability to change her style and experiment as much as she does with her fashion. My criticism is with the treatment of her voice on the album, as she vocodes her way (to a Kanye ‘808 and Heartbreaks’ point) through 15 tracks.

Madame X itself is a solid effort, and more importantly harkens not only to her ‘Ray of Light’ era (through the exploration of world music), but also opens the door for Latin artists Maluma and Anitta to the mainstream. I also appreciate the raw and personal lyrics found in tracks such as ‘Killers Who Are Partying’ and ‘God Control’. What is missing is an element of engagement with the listener as Madonna tries, and only somewhat succeeds, to create depth in modern production tactics.

Listen to: God Control, Dark Ballet, Crazy

Are all the exceptionally high scores some kind of joke I'm not in on? Or are they just Madonna fan girls or basing their scores off some nostalgia that I don't understand because I'm only 19? Genuinely confused cause this not a good album at all.

The album is sonically innovative and surprisingly a cohesive one despite working with multiple producers, multiple genres and themes. There’s no potential hits that might appeal to Billboard Hot 100 but that’s the beauty of this album . It’s not a desperate attempts to gain chart records like Rebel Heart or MDNA and M works best when she went back to trusted producers like Mirwais or perhaps, living in Europe has helped her to gain fresher ideas which resulted in a more organic sound. Critics failed to recognize the beauty of the bizarre and they cannot separate her alter ego Madame X from the real life Madonna which resulted in misleading judgements. To all those fans who complained that she should make another LAP or ROL or COADF, you should know that M only made music if she wants to and if you cannot move forward with these innovative and fresh sound then go home and play The Immaculate Collection then. Not everybody is coming to the future is it ? Expand

Thanks for making new music. If new generations compare the old music with theirs then they will realize that new music comes from the old and has lost its meaning just for reaching the charts. Anyways only a couple has more than her 12 number ones and no female artist has sold more than Madonna.
This album is an elegant snap in the face not searching charts but by exploring new horizons

It's Madonna at its most provocative essence since American Life. An album that did not come to follow trends or play streamings, because she sings away from the comfort zone and with her feet on the ground, when she says in Portuguese that the world is wild and the road is lonely. Lonely because they are few artists with their visibility giving voice to causes that need to be heard. It's Madonna at its most provocative essence since American Life. Lonely because they are few artists with their visibility giving voice to causes that need to be heard. The scenario she describes in God Control is frighteningly the picture of a global politics we live here in Brazil or the USA. Madonna proves in Madame X how much is needed and once again unites pop and art under the eyes of an artist who has seen a lot and feels privileged to be able to continue being heard. Madame X enters the Hall of her great albums and best of all is when she says that it will not stop just because you want. Long life the queen Expand

This is Madonna's best album since "Confessions on a dancefloor" and her most experimental since "American Life" Yes the reviews are right, this is a bizarre, odd, weird album but it is also a work of art. The different sounds, rhythms, themes in this album are just crazy! Definitely a SOLID album!!

A genuine artistic achievement on Madonna’s behalf that will have you feel connected with it in ways utterly unseen since 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor. In doing so this far in Madonna’s career, it manages to surpass even that iconic album in terms of bravery, authenticity and impact. Thus, sit back and enjoy. Undoubtedly, one of the best works that Madonna has done. Madame X gives a different view about pop music, the aesthetic is dark, the lyrics quite shocking but the sounds complement everything, they are like opposites that attract.

Madame X sounds like nothing else in the market place at the moment or in recent memory. Inventive, bizarre, baffling at times yet totally compelling and for the most part quite epic and engaging at a level her work hasn’t been in at least a decade. Sprawling, experimental and quite brilliant. A real body of work, not a group of singles but a fairly coherent and fluid album. Contender for Album of the Year in my opinion. Expand

I can’t tell you how much this album speaks to me. It covers areas never covered before by artist in a joyful way. It talks about politics and gun control but it doesn’t set you off, it’s not angry, it might be the calm before the storm, because it adresses these issues in a way as calm as possible

Overall, Madonna’s fourteenth album Madame X feels as if Mirwais had mostly completed a decent run-of-the-mill modern pop record, albeit with a cool hotch-potch global feel; hip nods in place to fado, dub and other micro-genres dunked amongst the trap and retro disco. But then just before sign-off, Herself went through the top-lines with a sharpie. ... None of these carefully curated flourishes feel as if they truly live inside the ‘whole’ of this music. Instead it all feels plonked on top of a template.

Madonna has created this music for an audience of one: Herself. Often it works. Sometimes it doesn’t.
