This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There's an incredible album, their songs are emotional, like Joanne, Million Reasons, it feels like a little bit Born This Way lyrics, but in a different way, obviously a little "country" way, but it's a really good album, maybe her best album in a years, very emotional, I really love it! Beautiful Gaga! That's all girl! Expand

A fantastic record. It spreads maturity. It sounds like nothing on the radio, some may think that is bad but it's actually good, good songs with amazing lyrics, pain and joy. A complex album to show a different side of her talent. Vocals on point and a great production.

This might be her best work yet. Not over-produced, no autotune, great vocals.... Hard to believe she's 30 years old since most songs sound like classics from 20th century! Nice work Gaga!

The maturity in the lyrics, in the melody is truly remarkable. It is filled with emotions, it makes you cry, it makes you smile. Every song is different from the other, but put together it makes this very eclectic album where any music fan can find its place. This come back makes me wanna say YAAASSSS.

'John Wayne' offers a small glimpse of good music on Joanne. The rest of the album is disappointingly mediocre. If she were any other artist, I would not have even heard past the third track 'Joanne'.

It is with great pain for me to say that Joanne is not the record that will change me like The Fame Monster or Born This Way. Any shred of the avant-gaga flair is gone. The personal is no longer the performance and the external is no longer the internal (thank you NYT). Perhaps she is going back to Red and Blue while I am going forward on to Vulnicura. Any shred of the avant-gaga flair is gone. The personal is no longer the performance and the external is no longer the internal (thank you NYT). Perhaps she is going back to Red and Blue while I am going forward on to Vulnicura. Either way even the most avid fans of this record would not disagree she has gone backwards to her pre-gaga sound. The first half plays with some interesting ideas but with these glittering ideas comes awkwardly direct lyrics. In the second half of Joanne country bumpkin Gaga comes out to say, "Hey look what I can do,' and not a single fan was gained on that day (of course only time will tell to prove me right or wrong). Trolling aside Lady Gaga on the bonus tracks decides that pinot grigio is the correct wine to connect with her fellow woman-kind even though riesling is obviously better. There is a intense depression lying underneath the record expressed through Gaga's inability to pronounce the english language. This depression is also reminiscent of my now dead childhood.
The album clumsily starts with the powerfully sung "Diamond" and lazily spoken "Heart". "Diamond Heart" pushes through with some lovely build ups and power choruses. "A-YO" plays with some great guitar playing similar to Wild Beasts with a country flair only to be driven by the viciously mundane Megan Trainor-esque "blow it in your face" and the awfully tacky clappity beat as well as steamy lyrics that leave nothing to the imagination. She left the disco stick in the trash and instead just wants you to get off on her- oh and there’s a mirror on the ceiling? "Joanne" is drenched in painful, hurtful even, honesty as well as some delightful lyrics I wish I could ask Gaga myself in the chorus, “Girl, where do you think you’re going?” "John Wayne” and “Dancing in Circles" are some of the high points of the record but goes full on lyrically country bumpkin Gaga and touch myself Gaga circa “So Happy I Could Die.” While I wasn’t pleased with Perfect Illusion originally it sounds wonderful when listening to it in the context of the album because it’s the only moment that has absolutely no country so far. The next song that actually matters is “Hey Girl” and it is tasty as all hell. Florence and Gaga is an unexpected heaven. My only complaint is the utter abuse of the title; one should not be able to begin the verse and the chorus the exact same way.
Of course it goes with out saying, I am clearly not a country fan- but I do not believe many Lady Gaga fans are. But alas Yoü and I had a subtle twang- so I suppose it wasn’t completley out of the blue. While my review is attempting at some humor I am legitimately disappointed as Lady Gaga was my original musical awakening. There will be no musical awakening ushered on by Joanne. Now, I will proceed to play the banjo, grab a cowboy hat, jump on a horse, and pretend to like this album.

Joanne is trying so hard to be something , but spends most of the time trying to figure out what that "something" is. Most of the production sounds flat, the vocals sound quite awful and the narrative does not tell a consistent story nor stick to a consistent theme. Nice try but nowhere near what you would expect from someone like Gaga.

No wonder everyone calls Gaga "Lady Reductive" .. her new album is a reductive mess .. Now Reductive is coping Madonna's "music" era, but songs on the album are bad versions of PINK, AVRIL, MILEY CYRUS songs. Lady Reductive is a tribute artist and she should stick with that, bc she just doesn't know how to make good lyrics, songs and music. Go away Lady, go away Reductive

I love Lady Gaga but I can say that this is the worst album of her career, may have convinced the other people but I do not. Too bad for a level Lady Gaga.

The is the worst pop album to come out in the past 25 years. It's bland, it's over-produced, why is Gaga screaming throughout the entire album? Two flop albums in a row = death to a pop star. Best of luck Gaga on your next adventure.

The worst Lady Gaga album so far. Surely disappointed the critics and a large number of fans. The album is so bad. She went from such amazing performances on tv with amazing vocals to this mess. Try next, Gaga.

The best way to describe it on a first listen is its a mix between her earlier stuff and her new style jazz stuff. You can tell she wants tobreak away and be a real musician and artist. Even if the tone is mixed there is still some good stuff here even if it needs more work.

The album's production is quite patchy at some parts, though I'm not sure if they were intentionally done to enhance the soundscape of the tracks. The songwriting could have been worded more effectively, her vocals could've been more rounded, and the structure of the songs is a little awkward, if not abrupt, at parts. "Joanne" is another desperate attempt from Lady Gaga to sound and look artistic but it's not really working. She should just stick to pop and go back to her roots.

This album is just horrible. Gaga sells an image "pure" without "pretense" but ends up being her worst attempt as a musician. The concept is just unbearable and the music nowhere near to amazing.

And, boy, is that a strange feeling for anything Gaga-related. I am all for changing up image, and if she wants to get rid of the theatrics and costumes, I'm not complaining (tho I'm sad). But, if her 'real self' is this boring mess, then maybe she should keep that meat dress on. Funny thing is, the only song on this album I liked was the Angel Down work tape. And guesss who wrote/produced it? Yeah, Red One. So maybe Gaga is better off working with those who made her who she is, and who perhaps understand her the most. Was it mistake dropping Red One? Most probably. Was this album a mistake? Hell yes. Expand

Worst Lady Gaga album to date. And this includes Artpop. Expect a Hannah Montana-sounding record when buying this and you won't be disappointed. To everyone else: don't do it.

Unfortunately, therein lies the biggest problem with Joanne: for every time that Gaga seemingly breaks free of her shackles and embraces something more “real,” she quickly scuttles back into her comfort zone and hides behind glistening production. This probably isn’t quite the sound of the real Stefani Germanotta, but if you squint hard enough there’s a semblance of a real person in amongst the pop haze.

Joanne is certainly not the all-conquering opus it was intended to be and will prove divisive, but it remains a daring and exciting record, delivered from one of modern pop’s most unique and singular voices.
