Apart from the smattering of country inflections, there are no great surprises in store.
  2. As a pop product, the album performs its function--and it’s commendable of Minogue to experiment with a different sound. It’s just a shame to hear a pop queen like Kylie seeming to buy into tacky generic artifice because it happens to be in vogue.

While aesthetic shifts have been crucial to her career, Golden feels like the first time the window dressing is a distraction from a flawed yet deeply admirable album.

Though the Nashville experiment is finally too half-hearted for the desired transformation, “Shelby ’68” mines Melbourne memories for a more personalised rural makeover.

Golden is bereft of relative stinkers, but there's little to bring listeners back.

On Golden, she sounds like someone playing at country music, rather than someone who understands it. Her star will doubtlessly endure this awkward release, but let’s hope country Kylie is short-lived.

Ultimately, there is a place for this kind of music, but it feels horribly dated.

And almost all of these have genre explorations have ended as disasters. Of course Minogue eventually saddles up to ride her be-glittered pony to the rodeo, late. And what she serves on Golden is more or less like a golden shower. It sounds good in theory, but the end result is a mess that you regret. Minogue should stick to her realm and leave country for the legends like Carrie Underwood, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, and Reba McEntire. Full Review »

This album proves how diverse Kylie is because she still embraces her classic signature dance along with Nashville-country roots. Dancing and Shelby '68 are two of my favourites. Full Review »
