    the album came as a surprise for itself and a surprise with the sound, taylor adventures on an alternative/folk sound and deep lyrics, that make this album so good you can't stop listening. I think i can say it's one of her best works up to this date, it's so raw and mature, she really outdid herself!

    This album took me by surprise and still managed to blew all my expectations. The work here goes beyond just music, it is true art, stories being so brilliantly painted they left me in awe. This album is an immersive experience in the scenery Taylor created, with many characters and different point of views. Her best work yet!

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. WOW I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!! I wasn’t really sure what to expect because of the title and lack of “lead single”, but I LOVED what I heard. I’ve wanted Taylor to try alternative music for a while, being the big swiftie and music fan in general that I am, and she nailed it. I’ve always thought it would help her show off her lyrical talent more, and it did! Well, I doubt anyone is going to read this so here is my opinion on some of the songs on the album.

    The 1: Because she said “1” instead of “one”, I was once again unsure of what to expect. This is one of my favorites on the album! It was a great introduction to the album and I love the lyrics and just the perfect mix of peace and excitement it gives you for the rest of the album.

    Cardigan: I love the Lana Del Rey vibes! I love how perfectly the lyrics and music video and melody all come together to make this song and I don’t know what else to say! Another favorite!

    The Last Great American Dynasty:
    It’s just genius! This could quite possibly be my favorite on the album! I normally wouldn’t like songs like this too much, but I am absolutely obsessed with it. I especially love how she talks both about herself in it (very clearly) and the story behind the house.

    Exile (ft. Bon Iver):
    This was not a favorite on this album, but I definitely liked it. The vocals are great and so are the lyrics, but the melody isn’t my favorite.

    My Tears Ricochet:
    If I were to rank this album, it would probably be right in the middle of the ranking. The lyrics are so good and relatable, but the melody isn’t the best.

    Mirrorball:
    One of my favorites! I love how it stands out and is so much more fun and playful than other songs on the album! Seven: Probably on the lower end of my ranking. I love how she portrays love and conversations through a seven year old’s mind, but the instrumentals make me sad, not because they’re bad, but because I don’t like the feeling they give me (which could be the intent!)

    Well, I don’t have much time, but those are just some of my thoughts on the songs. My favorite songs overall are The 1, Cardigan, The Last Great American Dynasty, Mirrorball, and August.    … Expand

    As a Taylor Swift fan since 2006 I am sure many will assume bias in my review. However, I did not give this album a 10 simply because of my love and adoration for this talented singer. Instead it is due to the songs strong melodies and beautifully written stories. This album is unlike anything she has ever done. Gone are the funky beats and polished songs in hopes of grabbing mass media attention. There are no calculated or strategically well placed moves with the release of this album. Rather than hidden Easter eggs, weeks or even months of promotion, Taylor released this album just hours after it's announcement. A smart movie as it stands on it's own. Stories written like poetry, letters and untold memories; this music is no longer about just one girl but the lives of those who have touched her along the way. It is fresh and though you won't be pumping it as you drive down the beach, with your top down, these are songs I have already found myself dancing to in the kitchen in the middle of the night. Mirrorball sounds as though it has been stripped right out of an 80's movie, slow dance, prom scene. There is tension, angst and a beat that you find yourself swaying to as you carefully step around the house. Exile is a hard hitting ballad that leaves your heart aching. Rather than her typical high notes and guitar rift love songs, this one is stripped and painful in the beautiful. The honesty leaves you with goosebumps as you picture your own young romance and the way it, most likely, fell apart. Every song bring a new character, story or imagery that is vividly painted with talented words. This album is Taylor Swift at her best, almost touching upon roots, to create something that his honest and pure. It's folky mysteriousness leaves you feeling as though you have been transported to a whole other world and for sixty three minutes and twenty nine seconds you are anywhere else other than where you really are. Taylor has always had the ability to write lines that hit hard and touch people in a way many artist can accomplish. While the musical styling might be different with Folklore, her ability to pack the same punch is not lost.    … Expand

    These 16 tracks (17 on the deluxe version) play out quite pleasurably in their entirety, the joins between Swift, Dessner and Antonoff ultimately only of niche interest. But Swift’s powerful songs reach their climaxes with bittersweet orchestrations, rather than blows to the solar plexus or a ringing in the ears. Everything hovers; little truly lands.
