Keep in mind that she wrote this in quarantine and took inspiration from a lot of situations including some fictional ones, so don’t even try to pull out the old narrative that the media created about her and her past relationships, and just enjoy the music.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. as someone who often feels too much, holds on to people and things for far too long, longs for what I’ve lost, for what I’ve never had, and what I’ve yet to find, the imagination...the escapism...the fantastical tapestry she’s woven through these sad, beautiful, tragic moments of fantasy, history, and memory deeply resonate with me. as all of her songs always have. and yet this album seems to be different. seems to resonate more than any of her past albums. maybe it’s the unpredictable time we’ve found ourselves in. but a bigger part of me thinks that it’s the stories being told. there’s so much value in storytelling. in personal stories, stories of those we know, stories of those we don’t. folklore is my favorite story yet. I’ve listened to it on repeat for hours. I’ll listen to it when I feel lonely and when I feel deep moments of sadness, knowing these songs will make me feel so much less alone.… Expand

    I love all of Taylor's albums, but after having listen through folklore it's a strong contender for her best album so far. It's hauntingly beautiful with so many amazing tracks and no skips at all. Both melodically on lyrically she proves again to be one of the best songwriters of our generation.

    These 16 tracks (17 on the deluxe version) play out quite pleasurably in their entirety, the joins between Swift, Dessner and Antonoff ultimately only of niche interest. But Swift’s powerful songs reach their climaxes with bittersweet orchestrations, rather than blows to the solar plexus or a ringing in the ears. Everything hovers; little truly lands.
