Her best work yet. A lyrical feat and a masterpiece. Poetry carries the weight that production had with her past work. An album that truly define the talent of miss Taylor Swift in the art of songwriting. No matter what genre Taylor would tackle into, her ability to write songs are quite evident and is much so in her brand new album. Entitled “folklore”, this body of work is definitely her realest and most mature album she has every done, ditching her more usual pop sounding songs of recent albums to a more indie/alternative/folk approach like one of her song “safe & sound” for the Hunger Games Soundtrack in 2012, which work so well for her, both writing style and voice. The album truly utilize the best traits of Taylor Swift as an artist, and what made her previous albums & some songs so amazing and critically acclaimed. One thing is her songwriting, which goes back to more of her country roots, but much more effective and mature, and also the production and subtlety of all the songs throughout the album, which I argue most of her acclaimed songs were from previous albums having the same traits, those type of songs were really where she shines through, were she’s in her element. All I can say is I am shock how one of the biggest country artist and more recently the biggest pop act of her time could release an alternative/folk/indie album and kills it like shes been making these ty of albums/songs from the start of her career. It is personal, it is mature, and it’s one of a kind in her discography, we sure hope she experiments more of this in the years to come. Expand

The best thing I’ve heard all year. Pure gold to listen to. It’s different, and so Taylor Swift. It matches her personality perfectly. It’s raw, throughout, brilliant. It’s something that deserves to be heard, and listened to, rather than thrown away at the first hearing.

Folklore isn't just an album, it’s a lifestyle, a reason to breathe, an escape from this cruel world filled with thieves. It’s art, the first gift you open on xmas, a hug from a loved one, the storytelling here is extremely incredible.

It shows in the most powerful way possible how strong her songwriting is, and every song is so beautifully crafted, causing a range of emotions like no other album in recent memory. The production is much less aggressive in contrast to previous efforts, but Swift was still able to maintain her melodies which stay printed in the listener's mind. It is unseen for a pop star of this caliber to deliver such an excellent project and with a sound so off brand with her (but not unknown for those who remember some deep cuts from RED, as well as Clean and The Archer). This album goes against what pop music is now, yet is so strong it just might be able to survive on current radio.
She conquered country with Fearless, she took pop by the horns with 1989, and now with folklore, she reigns over the alternative genre.

This album's sound and theme was as unexpected as its release. You can feel Taylor Swift's comfort in songwriting in this album. The complexities, the metaphors, the personifications, the storytelling and everything else. Simplification wasn't needed. Her best work by far. This album shows Swift's mental, musical and artistic maturity and growth.

It's a sharp turn to the left for Swift and a fine reminder that she is more than just a gleaming pop phenomenon, but a remarkable songwriter too. [Oct 2020, p.36]

A modern-folk masterpiece which finds her moving from her previous pop bangers into stunningly simple yet sharp melodies, ‘folklore’ will be going down in Swiftie history as one of her most unexpected, and undoubtedly one of her best.

These 16 tracks (17 on the deluxe version) play out quite pleasurably in their entirety, the joins between Swift, Dessner and Antonoff ultimately only of niche interest. But Swift’s powerful songs reach their climaxes with bittersweet orchestrations, rather than blows to the solar plexus or a ringing in the ears. Everything hovers; little truly lands.
