The melancholic album that is so emblematic of the times we’re living in. A poetic and mellifluous masterpiece that strikes right into the chasmic valleys of any soul who dares to listen. Truly a masterful piece of work, idyllic for anyone who enjoys rainy days and dreams of grey aesthetics. Magnificent.

It's Taylor Swift's best album, if not the best of the year. Through her compositions, she tells a love story between young people, which possibly reflects on her previous relationships. In a genuinely pure and sincere way. This is the most cohesive and mature album of Miss Americana. Taylor was the artist of the past decade and has a good chance of being this decade as well.

This has been one of the best works that Taylor Swift has done in music, It was a bit risky to do that since his fans were used to pop and country mostly, but we are seeing that this "folklore" album is getting more acclaim than his other works.

Taylor Swift is well known for her crossover from Country to Pop. Under the shadow of global pandemic, Swift has set out once again to triumph in a new genre. Under the shadow of global pandemic, Swift has set out once again to triumph in a new genre. One that is hard to define, with the indie folk alternative vibes that don’t fit neatly into a box. Folklore is a musical triumph that transcends genre, forming its own unique singer/songwriter niche, and that niche, seemingly, is the one Taylor was born to occupy. The album is a whole unto itself and it belongs together. It’s a totally different musical experience from anything else Swift has ever written in the best possible way. I love it so much but have a hard time picking a favorite song because it’s just...a whole. Greater than the sum of its parts. The tracks interweave, spinning stories and pulling on invisible strings to tie her reality with her ability to craft an entire universe in a few short verses.

There has never been an album she put out that I didn’t love for its own merits, but there has also never been an album that seemed so complete, or so uniquely Taylor. She has been, for me, the songwriter of a generation. Folklore may finally help the rest of the world see it too. Because who else can take on so many disparate genres of music and not only succeed, but thrive, finally arriving at a place only she could go?

Taylor Swift has outdone herself over the last decade and a half, consistently creating masterpiece after masterpiece. In such an unprecedented time, Swift took the unprecedented-for-her method of a surprise drop and blew away Swifties, the general public, and critics with an indie masterpiece. “folklore” shows that Swift’s raw, unrivalled talent transcends all genres.

On her past few records there have still felt like there were filler tracks or streaks of immaturity here and there as she addressed her haters or her falling outs, but in this album there is none of that. She takes her songwriting up a notch by placing herself in the minds of characters that leaves the listener wondering what it could possibly be about. Many have worried that after Taylor has found love and a happy relationship, she's no longer able to produce deep cuts like All Too Well and Last Kiss. She gladly proves them wrong on folklore. The production is much more bare compared to the bright and in-your-face bops of 1989 and reputation, which really lets the lyrics shine. She doesn't try to impress with high notes and crazy melodies, instead focusing on telling the stories that make up the concept of the album. Although most of the songs are supposed to be from other people's viewpoints, you can certainly tell when Taylor has also drawn inspiration from her own experiences, giving us more mature versions of her previous songs. I have waited for so long for Taylor to explore and dig deep into this kind of music, and I was worried she never would after reputation and Lover. For this album, she no longer cares about charting and sales and pleasing the majority of the public. The result is a beautiful and heart-wrenching masterpiece that showcases what she is truly good at, rather than what she thinks the public wants. This album has been the best surprise Taylor could've ever dropped, especially during quarantine, and will surely leave a long-lasting imprint on how the public perceives her and what kind of music she releases in the future. Think about this: The album is going to get higher scores than 19, 21 and 25, both of Lorde's albums, Billie Eilesh, all of Lizzo's albums and every Beyonce album.

That's kind of funny to me. It's also reflective of the kinds of people who review music and the pressures to like whatever Taylor Swift puts out, regardless of how many times you've heard it before, how little fire or joy there is to the tunes, or how many times Swift had worked this emotional corner of finding enemies (though, in folklore, she tries using fictional characters at times).

How someone has the stupendous commercial, critical and artistic success of Swift (1989 really is a great, and confident, album) and is left writing and recording Friday night white wine music, I guess she'll cover, someday, in an album that has her on other side of this sentimental era in her work.

Swift is a gifted curator (a lot of millennials are); there's a song in here that's not nearly as good as Iron&Wine's The Trapeze Swinger, but you know she knows the song. A lot of the album's like that, sort of a breezy, moody, vaguely backwoodsian tour of tunes that fits neatly between a half-hour social media binge and a couple HGTV shows. it's completely inoffensive, like a steaming, oversized mug of evening craft tea at the cabin. Tea isn't soda and it's sure not coffee or booze, it's tea - delicate, a little watery, comfortable. Tea raises no hell and is a nice drink before sleep. You're not gonna knock tea - it feels unfair to the very essence of tea - and, in fact, a certain person is going to say they very much love tea for its lack of the all things that make soda, coffee and booze, you know, those things. There's a song here called "mad woman" that could be soda, coffee or booze but it's tea. Good for sleeping.

When Madonna was 31, she released Like a Prayer.

Another album critics thought far less of than this.

    Kind of funny.

I have been a fan of Taylor since I was 8 years old and I’ve always loved her as a songwriter and I have been waiting for the day she was going to release an album that puts her lyrics front and center and that is exactly what this album did. "Folklore" is indeed one of the most iconic artistic masterpiece ever written. This is what i call artistic expression at it's finest. The way she perceives life and navigates through it, sharing all her experiences she's had since the start of her career till date poetically through the perspective of the fictitious characters she has created is commendable. It's one thing to feel the"Folklore" is indeed one of the most iconic artistic masterpiece ever written. This is what i call artistic expression at it's finest. The way she perceives life and navigates through it, sharing all her experiences she's had since the start of her career till date poetically through the perspective of the fictitious characters she has created is commendable. It's one thing to feel the music, but it's another thing entirely for it to become a part of our being, to flow as freely through us as blood. The way she captured her raw emotions and painted it on the canvas embellished with beautifully crafted songwriting accompanied with minimalist acoustically driven music and really simple yet refined, passionate and mature vocals is transcendental. She yet again proved to us that is undoubtedly one of the greatest lyricist of our generation. This album is one of the most cohesive piece of art she's ever created. It takes you on a journey to a whole new dimension and in the end, it ends on a good note, it's the retelling of forgotten tales, the sadness and pain of heartbreak, the happy and more authentic or in other words realistic side of love, it's everything wrapped in this delicate paper covered in sparkles. It cleanses your soul. And as Pericles had said, "what you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others." Thank you "Taylor Alison Swift" for gracing our lives with this timeless and evergreen piece of art during this dark filled with uncertainty period that we're the entire world is going through. I'm sure that this album will bring sunshine in the lives of billions and will give them strength to rise again. Expand

It's a sharp turn to the left for Swift and a fine reminder that she is more than just a gleaming pop phenomenon, but a remarkable songwriter too. [Oct 2020, p.36]

A modern-folk masterpiece which finds her moving from her previous pop bangers into stunningly simple yet sharp melodies, ‘folklore’ will be going down in Swiftie history as one of her most unexpected, and undoubtedly one of her best.

These 16 tracks (17 on the deluxe version) play out quite pleasurably in their entirety, the joins between Swift, Dessner and Antonoff ultimately only of niche interest. But Swift’s powerful songs reach their climaxes with bittersweet orchestrations, rather than blows to the solar plexus or a ringing in the ears. Everything hovers; little truly lands.
